Edit: quick question--I've been wanting to get into pastels but I'm not sure how they work. I'm going to do more research before making my decision to purchase some. They always look like they blend and layer well. Do you find this is true? Also, how messy are they?

So I use Canson Mi-Teintes oyster toned paper at 98lbs. I always use the smooth/ less toothy side of that paper.
