A quicker way to eliminate the "bleed out" is to be more precise on the layer mask step to not erase (in this case) anything beyond the black surrounding the original iris color. This was by far the best tutorial, and easiest technique, to accomplish this. Thank you!
Brilliant tutorial- I finished by making the eye lights a bit lighter than the rest of the eye (because light is reflecting off the surface of the eye) Love your work!
I use quite a few of your tuts in teaching my high school digital art class, so thanks!! I do like the process you use in this tut but I would also mask the pupil and reflection so they don't have the color cast of the eye change color. A picky detail for sure. ;)
I'd really love for you to a drum set on inkscape. It'd be an interesting tutorial and a pretty straightforward one as well. Lots of gradients and shapes :). Hope to see it soon! Keep up the great work!
👋🏽🔥 Hey Nick, I really love and appreciate your tutorials. Can you please do a tutorial explaining how to draw smooth lines with the bezier pen in Inscape like the way it is works in Illustrator. E.g when tracing a sketch to draw a flat illustration the curves/lines are difficult to smoothen in Inkscape but Illustrator tutorials I have watched show them looking smooth. By the way I have never used Illustrator.
If you get the time could you make an inkscape video showing how to create flat illustrations like the one in this video: ua-cam.com/video/VZ5JhNLfbME/v-deo.html
To retain the eye's natural color variation: copy the image layer, poke holes in the top layer, and change the hue of the primary eye color on the bottom layer.
Hi Nick, loved all your videos. Just wondering if you could tell me what Software you are using for screen recording? Would appreciate if you can answer. Thanks.
Thanks for a great tutorial. What would be great is a tutorial on how to remove "blood-veins" in the eyes. Not red-eyes as a result of using a flash, bot the red lines you sometimes can see in an eye of a person suffering from whatever causes you to scratch your eyes etc. But great tutorial...thanks
Nick, I'm actually trying to ADD color to pieces of an image which is already black and white - in this case, I'm trying to make the lips more lifelike (mans, darker red) than the medium gray. I thought I could reverse this, but no. The hardest part in my case is that "masking" the area in white (or black) makes no visible change to background image as it's already B&W :) Suggestions?
If the color on the image looks a bit fake : someone just slapped the color onto it. I'd suggest selecting the mode (under blending options) in colorize to overlay or above the layers you can see the mode option select overlay.
Hey Nick can you do a video on how to present your design to clients.. I have a problem with the size that I export my logos as I'm not sure how to do this a tutorial would be perfect👍
Hey nick, could you show how to make a gaming mascot logo on gimp? It would be really helpful because im very bad at this. If you have any ideas for what my logo could look like I would also really appreciate it!
Question: Gimp latest version. My tool options disappeared from the tool box panel, now it's on the far right top button of the layer panel. How do I get it back onto the bottom of the tool box panel like you have here? I tried to drag it , as it's says it's dockable, but it never works.
Are you using Windows? Frustratingly, there's some kind of conflict on Windows that causes the drag-and-drop feature to not function properly. It works in Linux, if that's of any help.
@@crj_stan3237 Thank you. I am using Windows, Windows 7 Pro. That's a real shame, as I was really hoping for a fix to it. Thanks for the reply. Hopefully they'll patch it.
@@NeonsStyleHD No problem. I had the same issue when using Windows and it is very annoying. I've seen some people say it works from them on Windows 10 but then a few who said it still doesn't work. Ran into a Reddit post that states known conflicts occur with "-Kaspersky Antivirus, Camtasia, SnagIt, Camstudio and TuneUp", if you might have any of those running? Good luck with it!
Unnecessary steps: 1. Apply mask (destructive), 2. Duplicate layer, 3.Erase, 4.Duplicate to change the colore again (my friend, YOU HAD A MASK!). Mistake: 5. Colorize (no more white in the eyes)
Perfect, I’m learning a lot from your tutorials, thanks Nick
True
oh wow its the easy way. The one I do has twice the number of steps. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks a lot. This really helped
@@anononinternet I also found that if you just mask out the eyes to the black edges, it's easier to not miss/accidentally go past where you wish.
You really make it look easy. When I try to do something in Inkscape or Gimp I get frustrated pretty quickly. Thanks for these videos.
Thank you so much!! The best way o eye recoloring in GIMP so far. I've suceeded.

Simple but clever! Good job Nick!🙌
Great little tutorial, I don't need to edit an image for any specific reason, but im enjoying learning the power of Gimp with your guidance :)

could you do a tutorial on how to make an album cover on gimp please. It will be appreciated
and how did he get the layered mask to be black
and how to set color for each eye just like in thumbnail? Do i cut desaturated parts in half?
If you use the eraser tool all over one eye in the top most layer it'll show the color from the layer below it, giving the two toned effect.

when i add the layered mask it does not take away the gray scale
