If you want to learn more about how GIMP works, I have a 60+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in GIMP and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/gimp/
I use your GIMP tutorials to create projects for my Intro to Computer Graphics class. We use GIMP on our Raspberry Pi's. Camp Build Your Own Computer (Camp BYOC). With kids ages starting at ten, for some of them, this is their first taste of an image manipulation program and your projects/tutorials are perfect for their level. Many gracious thanks you's for your generosity and teaching.
I am brand new to GIMP and your tutorials have been a huge blessing!! They are very informative, detailed, creative and paced well. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!
By far the best GIMP tutorials I've found on YT yet! You explain it so much better and make things so much easier. And you do videos on super cool effects like this, I love it!
Thank you! This was very helpful. I've tried other videos to do the same thing and yours is the best, ESPECIALLY for beginners. GIMP is very new and intimidating to me but you made it very clear and I learned alot from your video.
Thank you so much. Your instructions are so clear that I got this right the first time. Delete key seems to function differently on a Mac, so I chose Cut whenever you said Delete.
Absolutely amazing tutorial! Unlike many other tutorials that only tell you steps and how to make a specific picture I like how you explain what things do, the what and the why so we can use it later. The explanations etc, in my opinion it's what separates you from the rest. Appreciate the videos, can't wait for the next one.
When I saw thumbnail first, I thought it was you. Maybe, when you will upload how to cartoonise the face, use your own photo. I am eager to see the face behind the voice. 👍
I have a question, it looks so good for you because the man has a beard that defines the face shape, but when I do mine the only thing that comes out is my hair,, eyebrows and eyes and it looks weird, don´t know if you know how I can improve that.
I have seen such a video on another channel, but in this performance that lesson as well as all your other lessons super cool Хороша робота !!! Не зупиняйся:)
I've learned so much from you about Inkscape and now the learning continues with Gimp. Thank you so much. Btw- you sound just like Christian Bale to me. So, it's like I'm getting trained by Batman.
I have watched most of the tutorials and all are amazing...but could you plz tell that what happens with the layer mask and invert ,layer channel stuff? plz make a video on that basic stuff because I can use it only when I watch the tutorials...thanks
How would I make a halftone that i can put on photo resist. To use as a sand carving mask? You know more about gimp and inkscape than any one that I can find. Thanks for all the info that you share
This one terrific. I was in a Great Clips recently and they had artwork similar to this on their wall. I was wondering how they did it but I haven't put a lot of time into figuring it out! Thanks
Hi Nick, I've been a huge fan of your channel for over a year now and I'm very happy with your work. Also, I've gone from nothing to practically being able to make my own designs for shirts now. I'm a medical student and I just want to request if you could make a tutorial on how to do a vector of Asclepius' Rod (the symbol used for medicine - it is a rod wrapped by just one serpent; different from the symbol with two serpents). That would be really awesome.
Great videos!! I've followed a few of your others and have had a ton of fun learning! However, I'm having an issue with this one.. I've done everything step-by-step exactly how you've done it. But every time I try to invert the photo (after using the Path Tool around the face), it deletes the entire photo.. It keeps the outline of the face, but everything becomes transparent (layer is still 100% opacity). I'm still learning GIMP, so I have no idea why this could be. I've tried googling the issue, I've tried using different photos (4 different ones - all getting same result), so I'm a little lost. Do you have any insight to why this might be happening?
Hi Nick, how would you recommend 'floating' the head if the subject had long hair around the face - would you include that in the second path too? great video! thanks in advance
This was the most helpful video I've seen and trust me when I say I saw what was possible to be found! But after the first photo I did, my photos with the faces tend to be bigger than the photo with the landscape or sky and I end up unable to fit the whole face in. Is there any chance that you would know what I am doing wrong? :/ Thanks
I'm officially in love with your tutorials! I've been following along with my own pics. Speaking of, when I got to the part where we adjust the color threshold (4:04), I lost a lot of the details (such as hair and a scar across the face), so my final result is more cartoon-effect, less realistic. Still cool, but is there a trick to keeping the finer details? Thank you!
Hi just wondering if you have done a tutorial on changing a picture into a sketch on Gimp. What I was looking for was to change a picture of an animal to a sketch then colour it myself
Recent subscriber here. Loving all the tutorials! Quick question on this one: after adjusting the threshold you go on to pick the color white. When I color select the area and push delete the entire face goes away. What am I doing wrong here? Do I have an option in the color dialogue box checked that I shouldn't? Vice versa. Been following through the steps with the video but the entire face keeps disappearing. HALP!
Yes I just recently bought a 4K monitor to complement my new build, but it was mostly for gaming. You really don't need 4K for basic graphic design. If you're still interested though the full details are here: logosbynick.com/look-new-design-setup/
Hi, the only thing I dont understand is that, I followed each of every step, but during the clicking of color select tool, it won't allow delete the white color. Not sure what did I do wrong

It's 2020 im on #lockdown in the UK due to Corona, and these tutorials are a great way to waste time and learn something 👍
By far the best GIMP tutorials I've found on YT yet! You explain it so much better and make things so much easier. And you do videos on super cool effects like this, I love it!
WHoa, I did not know I could select a shape in one image, then cut that shape out of another image! Wow. Thanks!
Thank you! This was very helpful. I've tried other videos to do the same thing and yours is the best, ESPECIALLY for beginners. GIMP is very new and intimidating to me but you made it very clear and I learned alot from your video.
I see you have used this tutorial as your profile picture.

Thank you. I know how hard it is to part with money you worked for, so I really appreciate it and hope you get some kind of value from it.
Thank you so much. Your instructions are so clear that I got this right the first time. Delete key seems to function differently on a Mac, so I chose Cut whenever you said Delete.

One of the many reasons I love creating this kind of content is not having to be on camera :)
I'm so glad that I found this channel.Keep up with great work and thank you!

Awesome, can't wait to try this! Love your videos :)
I've been using your smoke effect tutorial to do similar things as this, using images from hubble and spitzer as background.
Awesome
This one terrific. I was in a Great Clips recently and they had artwork similar to this on their wall. I was wondering how they did it but I haven't put a lot of time into figuring it out! Thanks

I'm loving it...
hey, i have a question: when i want to move the "face layer" it keeps moving my background instead of the black part. any idea?
Hey Nick nice video, if you are trying a double exposure effect in GIMP are wonderful tutorial learning. Greetings from South Amereica
Thanks for great tip!

Use the Scale tool (right from the rotation tool) and click on the Maj while moving things.

Very nice tutorial. Guess who has a new Facebook profile pic :D Keep up the good work Nick!
Great video. When click on delete in 2.22 I have the outline but not the image. I see the outline with starts but my guy is gone..Any help?

wow I liked it cool 👍👍👍
Men your the best !! 🙌🏻
What happens if the hair colour on the image is of a lighter variant like a light blonde? what are some ways i can still achieve this affect?
Uow! Thanks for that!
Good clear instructions - thank you. Hey, and with that big Wilber smile, the guy looks like he should have a paintbrush between his teeth!
Do you use a 4K/UHD monitor? So yes, would you recommend a 4K monitor for GIMP and Inkscape?
Keep up the good work!
Yes I just recently bought a 4K monitor to complement my new build, but it was mostly for gaming. You really don't need 4K for basic graphic design. If you're still interested though the full details are here: logosbynick.com/look-new-design-setup/
thank you soooo much
you are so good
Thank you thank you thank you
Hi Nick, whenever I open Inkscape a sheet is coming in the center of the canvas please help me in this.
Thank you!!!
thanks, Brother!
walaupun ga ngerti bahasanya, cukup pahaman step by stepnya
How does this work with a very dark background? Do I have to cut more precisely then?
Is it required that, the size of the photo(face) and the Galaxy is always the same? Thanks.
thanks 👍🏻
Great!!!!!
so gimp is a pretty good alt to photoshop? i know how to use photoshop relatively well but i dont actually own it, is this worth downloading insted?
It's a good enough alternative for basic stuff. I'd say Photoshop is superior though (as it should be.)
thank you
What if u want to add letters
Well.but when I delete at first the face of the picture vanishes and the path inclination created shows on galaxy bg
How do you remove the starting rectangle in the background it's really annoying me
can you achieve this result in inkscape by using "trace bitmap"?
at 2:22 you said that we had to click delete on the key board but nothing happened. HELP!
yeah that was the problem. Cheers!
Hi,
the only thing I dont understand is that, I followed each of every step, but during the clicking of color select tool, it won't allow delete the white color. Not sure what did I do wrong
Try right-clicking the layer you're doing this on and selecting "add alpha channel".
Thank u
how come when a hit delete to cut out the image nothing happens...it won't delete...please help me if you can...i did everything said in this vid.
i actually figured something out...i went to edit and then cut but the only thing is it added the parts i cut out into the clipboard
after using the paths tool to select the image and inverting and all once i hit delete it deletes the face and only leaves the image of the galaxy.
How would you do this but with a word?
Awesome Video!! #newsubscriber👍🏾‼️
i have os x when i press delete nothing happens what do i do
i did this but white background stayed white after i cropped deleted?
Me when I press delete nothing works
Does anyone with ipad knows how this is possible using procreate?
I love you
