    This is my attempt at persuading you to read binding 13! I absolutely loved this book - it will have you giggling and kicking your feet but also sobbing because wow this book is so much more than just a romance. It is definitely quite heavy but I have never loved a cast of characters quite so deeply. Can’t wait for you to get to it!

    I’m so excited for you to read Percy Jackson!!! They’re the books that made me fall in love with reading when I was younger. As long as you go into it knowing the characters are younger you’ll love it. And the character development in the following series are amazing

    The Nightingale is very moving and readable but it gets a lot wrong about the Jewish experience in France and I think it’s important to know that. You can still like the book! But it’s also a book with a MC named Vianne, during a time when naming your child Vianne was actually illegal in France…so that’s the level of historical accuracy we’re working with lol.
    Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Starless Sea! And there’s an upcoming Netflix mini series for All The Light We Cannot Sea starring our boyfriend Mark Ruffalo.

    you already know i’ve just added a ton of books to my tbr from this vid… 🤭 when the mood strikes i really think you should pick up Binding 13. i’m a huge advocate for romance books not being over 400 pages, but with that series you just want the books to be longer! also, can we talk about how 90% of these books have the biggest fall/ winter vibe!! i felt all cozy just watching this! 📚📚

    The Shadowhunter Chronicles as a whole is so expansive and incredible. I do think you’ll really enjoy them. City of Heavenly Fire is one of my top faves in the series. It’s worth getting too. I still need to read Chain of Thorns but the first two in the Last Hours are SOOOO much fun.
    I’m probably going to read Wuthering Heights in October to along with my re-read of Eclipse. It should be fun trying to find all the different references.
    Hope you are able to get through all of these!
    P.S. You should give Kingdom of the Feared a shot. 🤣

    Anna Karenina was a long read (as are most classics for me). The romance was the best part. The social commentary was interesting in relation to social stigmas during that time period but the narrative by the brother in law (I believe) about peasant workers etc. was a little dry for me but still a good book.

    This really made me want to go through my bookshelves and pick out what I haven't read yet. I'm sure it'd take me just as long if I were giving descriptions. You also added more to my TBR.
    My recs for top of the TBR is All the Light We Cannot See (beautifully written, and it will be a Netflix movie soon with Mark Ruffalo), Song of Achilles, Persuasion (the main character is older and it's a second chance love story, my favorite Austen novel), Red Rising (I loved the first trilogy, tried to read the next set and couldn't get into the first book. I've re-added the series to my TBR because Olivialovesalatte is raving about them), and Name of the Wind (I read it forever ago, but it was a good high fantasy).
    Ariadne is like a 3.75 star read for me. The writing is lovely and lyrical, it has an interesting take on Dionysus, his cult, and Perseus since I usually read conflicting interpretations, and the theme is really the hubris of men, which is becoming more of a theme with mythology retellings. The downfall is the pacing is bad. The first part is fast and you want to keep reading, the middle is slow with time passing indeterminately, and then the ending picks up a bit again but it's just rough. I'm still eager to read Elektra though.
    Classics - I'm not big on the Brontes, but Wuthering Heights is probably my favorite. It has some great, swoonworthy lines (though if it were real life it's not at all a healthy relationship), and a good BBC adaptation with Tom Hardy and his wife where they fell in love whilst filming. I'd also recommend Here on Earth, which is a modern retelling by Alice Hoffman. Jane Eyre - I found one part more interesting than the rest of it and there's another classic book (Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys) inspired by it. There's a pretty good adaptation of Jane Eyre with Michael Fassbender as Rochester. Dracula is a must read solely for the chapter on how he gets to England. That's scarier than the rest of the book, which I found I could take or leave.
    Austen read through: 1) Persuasion; 2) Sense and Sensibility, great love stories with 2 different protagonists. Fantastic adaptation with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Alan Rickman. Emma Thompson wrote it. 3) Emma - Definitely Austen's most funny book, and definitely check out the recent movie with Anya Taylor Joy. 4) Northanger Abbey, cute little first book. Leave Mansfield Park to last, it's like slogging through quicksand. I haven't read Sanditon because it was unfinished, but I really enjoyed the first season of the PBS adaptation. It made rowing sexy.
    I haven't read Priory yet, but I really enjoyed Shannon's Bone Season series. It's set an an alternate, future London where people who have magic are hunted down and either killed or imprisoned. I don't hear much about it so like to recommend it.
    The Starless Sea while beautifully written didn't come together for me. I was disappointed because I loved The Night Circus, which if you haven't listened to the audiobook of it you must. Jim Dale has the best fricking voice ever. Your edition is stunning though.
    I tried Bone Shard Daughter last month and couldn't get past chapter 3. I'm planning on trying again and hoping it's just a 'not in the right headspace for it right now' thing because the magic system is super interesting.
    Since you have The Jasmine Throne on your TBR I'm going to recommend Tasha Suri's Books of Ambha duology (first is Empire of Sand) if you haven't read them. They're fantasy romance set in a Mughal India inspired world.

    Midnight in Everwood has been on my December TBR for an embarrassing amount of time! We can do it this year 🤞🏻
    Omg The Hunger Games!!! A classic. So so good.
    I thought Kingdom of the Wicked was just fine, Cursed was great to me, and Feared was 1 star. 😆 But to be honest, it was SUCH a fun hate read! I was laughing out loud!
    I think Long Live the Pumpkin Queen would be great for a spooky season 24 hour readathon! It wasn't life changing, but it was a really fun, silly time. Especially if you have the movie fresh in your head! 📚📚

    NAME OF THE WIND Oh my god, this is probably the book that got me into adult fantasy and I think about it almost constantly. • @chrissyfuhrie
      @chrissyfuhrie Рік тому

      “but I have to read the book first. Those are the rules” THIS IS THE WRONG ORDER!!! 😂😂😂 If there is a movie out, it always goes first for me. Hear me out… The movies are generally more surface level than the books. You love the movie and think it can’t get better, BUT THEN… you pick up the book and you’re graced with ✨inner monologues✨ Books can really put you inside the characters head and thoughts the way that movies cannot. It takes you even deeper than a movie ever could, so the journey is essentially continuing when you begin reading. You get to continue uncovering things and understanding more. In the reverse order, you’re just spoiling the movie. You go into into it already knowing more than the movie can show you. You’ve already completed the journey in the deepest, most intimate way. Anytime the book has been read first in my experience, it just takes the magic out of the movie for me and there’s a lot I feel like I know that no one else watching is filled in on. And that makes me end the movie feeling unfulfilled. Potentially great movie ruined. I say try it. I’ve never watched nor read The Martian, but I DARE you to watch the movie first. 😂😂😂

    • @chrissyfuhrie
      @chrissyfuhrie Рік тому

      Okay. Lord of the Rings I can speak for. You love the movies, I love the movies, we all do. They were done incredibly well and there’s presumably nothing that can make them better. They are legit perfection. That is until you pick up the trilogy. I picked up the books after watching and 🤯 They will make you appreciate and love the movies so much more.

    Wuthering Heights it's my absolute 100% favourite book ever! I must have read it over 100 times. It's one of those books that gets better every time you read it! I read it for English in my teens and have read it over and over since. My copy is so worn now, it's annotated and highlighted and underlined so much it's literally hanging 🤣🤣I should def replace it, I just need a beautiful version to replace it with 🤔

    Try to think of a DNF as a trial - many books don't get a trial, and you are giving the book that chance. And a DNF isn't necessarily forever. You can change your mind one day. So it's not a permanent rejection even if you feel like you won't ever go back to it. You just aren't letting the books live with you any more. They can come visit as a library book potentially, but no more free boarders.
    Maybe you can shop your shelves as often as you don't? Say, read one you own for every new book or library book? Small progress is still progress. But I do think unhauling books you don't want any more is a good habit.
