I have only included shoes I actually have in hand here. No point including shoes I don’t have!
I use the Invincibles all the time - not just a recovery, but also a daily trainer (fairly frequently) and to be honest, if I've a speed session and they are the only pair of shoes I've handy, I'll do that session ok in them, no tears lost. Great shoe.
Same 👍
Tried the shift 3 and triumph 20 from saucony
Went with the triumph - the shift may have a higher stack - but felt much firmer than the triumph
When it comes to cushioning- I would say the triumph takes it
I just got back from a 10k run in the Prime X strung, and yesterday i did a 43k Long run on snowy trails, so i was on the couch all day. Maaaan the prime x made it feel EAAASSY on tired legs. Absolutely awesome. And that grip!
Superb shoe. As you say the grip is heavenly.
Prime X Strung winning this one quite easily. I just love that shoe...
Great video ideas mate, cheers!
After a hard week of marathon training that long run is so much easier and more forgiving with decent cushioned shoes. Big fan of them as part of the rotation. I've a pair of New Balance More v4 for my long, easy, recovery runs. Like running on clouds. Probably
I used Invincible Run 2 for easy, long run, and some tempo sessions. Def. more versatile. It shines at moderate paces. Zoom X does a great job of rebounding back the more force you put into it not sacrificing comfort but at the expense of durability. That’s fine with me. I change my shoes every 300 miles anyway. Keeps me away from injuries.
Just got back from playing bball for 3 hours. Wore my NB SC trainers to the gym then switched to the Nike GT Jump to play ball. Although the GT Jump are great for bball, I couldn’t wait to get out of them and put the SC trainers on. They’re soo friggin comfy after 20 miles in them
Loving my shift 3! Did an 18 km run yesterday. Stable, protective and rolls smoothly. The softness is perfect for me. Not a fan of overly soft midsole.
Yeah I enjoyed the fact they weren’t super soft to be honest. Just right.
As a runner with rheumatoid arthritis cushioning is very important so this is a great video. I am a bit sceptical of the fuel cell as max cushioning shoe as my Rebel v2 did not last more than 400 km before the foam collapsed. Thanks @eddbud
You temped me with the prime x strung Ed but I went asics superblast and so far I'm really glad I did. Maybe the price has skewed reviewers opinions but I got it for £160 and worth every penny.
I run in Prime X strung, SC trainer and Zoom X Invincible, but to me the best max cush shoe is the Alphafly I.
Picked the Prime X for today's Zwift 5k "race"/fun run, but it felt a bit heavy in the end.
First? Loving my Prime X Strung, Ed. Just did a 10 miler, getting better every run
Glad they are working out so well
Suede !!! Omg! Memories ❤❤❤
Ever since I discovered the Invincible, it's my go to recovery/long run shoe. The zoomX is crazy comfortable and the sole has held up super well compared to my other shoes.
Brilliant versatile outsole.
Very informative Edd.
Love the invincible incredible shoe, like running on marshmallows 😍. Happy New year and hope the channel continues to do well.
Best on UA-cam in my opinion, thank you Mr Edd cool cat Budd.
Thanks for tuning in Paul
Hi Edd hope all is well mate, still watching and really enjoying the content👍🏾. I use the Brooks Glycerin 20 as a Mac cushion shoe, part of my Manchester marathon rotation. It's like the Velocity Nitro as similar foam. Very durable, not a speed shoe but like all Brooks has a nice turnover. I think this video and your scoring system is really useful for the viewer and the easiest comparison I've seen to guide our purchasing preferences. Btw hope the Gunners can win the league playing some great stuff.... Need the Toffees to stay up again...😬
Thanks for continuing to tune in Sir 👍🏼👊
The Suede album Coming Up was fantastic. I ever actually listened to much of thier work . I listened to it on a run and never once did i want to switch to my usual safe run fodder. Many thanks Ed
Couldn't agree more!
I test ran the Prime X up and down the Sydney store recently. They felt amazing but at $420AUD(est.210 earth?) not twice as amazing as the superseded Takumi Sen8 at about $200AUD(est.100earth). On your recommendation, I'm enjoying the Novablast 3 which I'd call high stack. You never seem to review Hoka. I'm still feeling burnt form my Hoka Carbon X2's which are slower than many of my trail shoes! I think the Invincibles may be too spongy for my liking and will stick with Nike's race shoes... Thank you for your fun and informative comment Ed!
I just saw Suede play with Manic Street Preachers in Philadelphia! It was AMAZING and brought back a lot of my teenage feelings!
Great bands. The new suede are a superb live group. Brilliant energy from Brett
Love your attitude man
Thanks for tuning in
Oh... the Nike Invincible 😝 My feet dissappear in these shoes and forget what running is! The heel especially: I go backwards in them (can you do negative mileage?). I love them as recovery after a long run though... doing some shopping or going out for the day. But running? No, no, no 😖
Sc trainer! My personal favorite
really helpful. my daily training shoe is the nike invincible, but now i want even more foam 😂
it will be awesome a invincible 50mm height (with a plate for support)
Maybe it will come this year from Nike
New Balance more v4 or 1080v12, Saucony Triumph 20, Adidas Prime X,
Thank you Edd
Very welcome
Yes we need max cushion with the fattest stack cause I have plantar fasciitis it helps so much if I don't have big soft squash my heel kills
Nice reviews Mr Eddbud! I do find you a bit cooky and unusual sense of humor from what I'm use to in the USA but that's exactly just one of the reasons I love your channel along with your running shoe reviews but wait...,there is more I can't forget to love your sharing of rock or music bands you like .Some I never heard of but when I listen to them I thought wow this is great,How come the mainstream pop rock radio stations don't play some of these in the USA? Anyways enough of that for the moment now back to max cushion shoes.Personally ,No I don't use them. When I ran in a more cushioned show in the past it felt a little too bulky and the transition isn't as natural or quick. I''m not even a fast runner. I usually run a training 10 to 15k jog/run about 24 mins per each 5k and maybe a 10k race at about 39 minutes at my fastest. Weeky mileage about 60k a week/36 miles average. Maybe building up to 100k a week if I'm training for a Marathon building up milage over 3 months ect.
MY feeling is just a good decent training work horse running shoe works.I am rotating neutral trainers like the ASICS Cumulus 24,Saucony ride 14 and the Hoka mach 4 for longer training runs at a controlled pace. For a shorter tempo maybe Saucony endorphine speed or ASICS Magic Speed or older ASICS dyna flytes.Anyways the way feel if you need more super stacks of cushioning for extra protection you might be over training or not recovering on the back end. Everyone should try better recovering Drink a good quality low calorie protein powder in water, rest more,do some stretching each day Mske sure enough magnesium and potassium is in your diet or take an extra magnesium potassium supplement. Being deficient in this causes muscles to lock up.If you wake up in the morning and point your foot and your calf muscles gets locked up or tight you are already deficient and in trouble before your run.
SO many shoes and options now but runners need the 3 basics overall which is Rest/recovery stimilus/exercise) and nutrition. if something is out of balance no shoe will help you recover. And ppl over train also.Workout to race but don't always race your workouts. Easy days real slow casual and fun and fast days when you feel good then push the pace.
I even ran in an older pair of New Balance 1080 and didn't like them much then tried a slightly less cushioned New Balsnce 880 and felt that was a better balance of cushion yet still nimble enough.
But as always that you for your reviews Kalif🏃♀️🌄
No max cushion shoes yet, but I'm leaning toward the Saucony Triumph as a compromise between max cushion and daily trainer. I've nearly worn through the forefoot outsole on my 2018 Adidas Solar Boost, which has been my easy day shoe and feels very cushy to me. The little extra weight and relaxed Boosty rebound isn't an issue for easy runs. It's great for long walks or just standing around all day. And it feels the same in hot and cold weather.
But after putting 25 miles in each of the Endorphin Pro and Speed, and trying the Triumph 20 in the shop, I'm a convert from Boost to PWRRUN. It's like Boost on steroids, cushy but lively. And should last for hundreds of miles. I'm a cheapskate and tired of foams like the original Lightstrike and "super critical EVA" that crush down and lose their feel after 200 miles or less, or feel dead like cork in cold weather.
Or I might just buy the Solar Boost 4. I know it's not a sexy shoe and Boost is kinda passe, but I still like it for easy days and everyday wear. And the weight is reasonable, not excessive like Ultraboost.
Go with the triumph 20. Fantastic shoe. I ran the Chicago marathon in them in October and they were a dream
I have had 3 pair of invincibles. Super soft and amazing for a daily comfort shoe. The quality is suspect, and also why I have had 3 pairs. The SC does not feel very soft walking around like the invincible, but even at a jog the SC comes to life. Is is super smooth heel to toe. The strung is as good or better in a straight line. The SC upper may be better than the strung, but lacks the pop of the strung. A hybrid of the 2 would be amazing.
I was surprised at the lack of cushion on the sc to be honest. I expected more!
It would be interesting to know what sales for On Running or other bespoke running shoe brands are like. Is there anywhere you can see sales data like we can track for car sales for instance?
Not that I know of
How would you rate the Zoom Fly 5 in this way? I'm considering it as a long run shoe. Trying it, it feels cushions and nice fit for me. Like a more stable Invincible with more cush in the forefoot
It’s one I haven’t used much more since summer. Maybe I shall get it out again for some variety.
If you get a chance Ed, try out the Glideride 3 if you have not already. It is a nice ride and rumor is they will discontinue it in favor of the Super Blast unfortunately.
Agree, got the GR3 on recommendation from other shoetubbers. I had the GR1 but the GR3 is big improvement: lighter, more cushioning, energy return and still smooth transition, no longer a tank like the GR1. Also great for faster stuff now, it's moving towards endorphin speed territory.
I liked the GR3 to be much better than the Speed 1& 2. I can't speak for the 3.
Ed. Will you be looking at the ASICS Superblast? Eventually.
Possibly though something new from Asics is in my hands right now.
Great review Ed
I was wondering where you would put the Tempo Next%? 🤔
I'm on my 3rd pair! one of my favourite goto shoes for easy miles and good for 400+ miles
I'm on my 2nd pair of Prime X ogn ♥️
As you say very versatile and sooo much fun! .. good for 400+ miles!
Bloody hate the invincible.. have struggled to put 30 miles on them
Absolute pants
The tempo next% has some real character. I do hope it’s continued.
I think the Next% is very underrated. It's too expensive at MSRP, but it's performance is better than most of the hyped shoes.
Out of these, I have the Prime X Strung, Invincible Run 2, and SC Trainer and I had the Cloudmonster for a while but could not get on with it at all so that one didn't last long in my collection. I considered Endorphin Shift 3 but decided to go with the More V4 instead, which I believe was the right decision. At first, I wasn't sold on the More V4 and actually returned the first pair I got but decided that it was more of a fit issue and gave it another try half-size down and now I like it a lot amongst my max-cushioned stable.
I fully agree with your assessments, Ed. The PXS is actually a lot more than another max-cushioned shoe for easy/recovery. It can do so much more - long distances at marathon pace, speed tempo/threshold, intervals, and shorter but fast daily runs as well as long runs at slower paces. It beckons you to go fast but actually reacts well to slower speeds (around 9:00/mile or 5:35/km). Even going fast, it feels like easy/recovery because it's so well cushioned and comfortable.
I like to use the PXS for long runs (10+ miles) at moderate/fast paces and Deviate Nitro 2 for the fast/moderate pace daily runs and workouts (5~7 miles) and then rotate the IR2, SC Trainer, and More V4 for 6~8 mile runs at slower paces. I'll occasionally rotate the Takumi Sen 8, Adios 7, and Rebel V3 for short and fast (3~6 miles) runs and workouts. I just couldn't figure out how to fit the Cloudmonster into my rotation and it just didn't fit, feel, or ride very well. I know some people really like this shoe and I really wanted to like it too, but it just wasn't for me.
I considered the Shift 3 carefully but decided it just wasn't a good fit in my rotation and would be redundant with the GlideRide 3, which I really like for long cruises at moderate paces. You should give More V4 a try, Ed. It's a massive funny looking shoe but runs lighter and more nimble than it looks and has a completely different ride from the bounce fest you get from IR2 and SC Trainer. I think More V4 is the "true" easy/recovery shoe in that it forces you to run slow. It's not bouncy at all. Your feet just sink in a pleasant manner and then kind of roll forward. It's kinda like running on smooth and hardened wet sand on a beach - enjoyable and smooth enough but you won't be running fast on it.
Which do you like more between the new balance sc trainer and the Nike zoomx invincible run?
@@jr1364 I assume you are referring the Invincible Run 2? They are very similar. The SC Trainer propels you forward a little more although the bounciness is about the same. The IR2 is a little more fun. I find the upper on the SC Trainer a little more comfortable. They are both great.
I got the Invincible Run 3 recently and although it looks better and the ride is more stable than the IR2, overall, it feels firmer and not quite as fun. I think I still prefer the IR2 over the v3.
@Orlok Subodai Thanks for the response. I'm planning on getting the invincible runs when they go on sale. I just ordered the new balance sc trainer. Should be here within a couple of days. I'm going to see how they fare against the ultraboost 23's.
@Orlok Subodai I've heard from others as well that the nike Invincible 3's seem to be a tiny bit of a downgrade compared to the previous models.
@@jr1364 The SC Trainer is a fun shoe. The only downside is the weight. For me, it's fine up to around 8~9 miles but I don't want to go beyond that. The Invincible Run 2 has a ride and feel of its own that's quite unique. And it's also a great walking shoe. I always put it on when I have to follow my wife around the mall. Haha
Nice🎉
Bronze
I would love to go to one shop and try all these on. It's a pity you can only order online and then go through the hastle of returning them if you don't like the shoes.
Yeah there’s no running shoe stores here either.
The people demand a Spotify playlist with all the music recs EDD. We need that playlist!
It may be a somewhat strange group of tunes. 🤣
Another great video Edd 🙌 ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
you are missing the Superblast, which I use for medium daily runs (10-16 k), SC trainer for all longer runs below target pace, and Invincible for some shorter recovery runs. Does everyone need max cushion? Certainly not, but for me the stable ones help prevent injury in my problem areas while running more than I could in more minimalist shoes, I had to retire the Adios 6 very quickly as the impact was too hard for my knee. Still tempted by the Prime X but it felt too unstable for my pronation when I tried it on.
Haven’t tried the super blast so can’t include something I haven’t experienced.
next off road max cushioned video
hiero v7 trail v2 and adidas freehiker 2
Wat do u think about the asics glidride 3?
Not tried that shoe sadly
ON shoes are good for casual wear but not running. I have the CloudAce and Cloudflyer but they are not a good fit for running.
No Gel Nimbus? Brett Andersons autobiography is a great read!
Yes a really good book or two from him
EDD CHECK OUT NEW BALANCE ARISHI V4 ID LIKE TO HEAR A REVIEW..TY
Great video as always EDD , I find the Nike zoom X Invincible Run Flynite 2 a little heavy as I feel I have what I can only describe as after drag , must be the lockdown and possibly the way I run , but as I land and then take off again I have the feeling of drag as if I am catching the back to mid position of the sole.
As to the music interlude I have seen Suede a few times , was once lucky enough to catch them at Middlesbrough Town Hall just after the release of their second album , Bernard Butler had left and a young Richard Oakes had taken over , I believe he was only 17 at the time , but a fantastic concert all the same .
Just a heads up on a problem I encountered today Pro-Direct running ,advertising Adidas adios Adizero Pro 3 for £100 , but when you follow the link you can only obtain Pro 2 , is this sharp practice or a genuine mistake ?
Must be a mistake in the pro 3.
SportsShoes have the Pro 2 for £100 and the Pro 3 for £140, so I would also guess it's a mistake on the ProDirect site.
@@MrAsthenia Guess so, but it is very disappointing when you receive a targetted email , clearly stating Pro 3 (as a regular shopper , thinking I am obtaining a loyal customer email approach) then find only Pro 2's which I have already purchased, the advert clearly states Pro 3 , so really it is poor for a specialist running shoe retailer, not to know the difference between Pro 2 and Pro 3's , wonder how many runners innocently purchase by mistake thinking they are purchasing Pro 3 and Pro 2's turn up ?
I had the same email and didn't notice it said Pro 3, the picture is certainly a Pro 2 though. Make you wonder if they'd priced the Pro 3 at £100 on the website would they honour it? I would think they would, until they update the price of course.
Cushin’ for the pushin’
90’s Brit Pop really was the peak of musical excellence.
Yes it’s a high benchmark!
Hey edd are you going to the national running show at the NEC?
Not heard much about it to be honest!
EDD BUD hands down the most creative and unique shoe reviewer 💯 Get this man to a million subs!
With that said respectfully disagree on the SC Trainer, I think the energy arc gives you a propulsion that the other shoes just don’t have, I do wonder how much of that depends on the weight of the runner and how much it compresses, (200+) it makes the invincible run feel obsolete when you swap shoes, Prime X still has the top spot for me, just because of the lighter weight, upper on the strung and even more stack.
Just doesn’t feel all that propulsive to me. The elite 2 feels kinda similar. Loved the original rc elite though.
How do you feel about the Adidas Adistar? If I recall correctly you did an initial first run review but no subsequent full review, so I assume you abandoned it before taking it to 100 miles?
It was in my nightmare shoes video in November.
@@EDDBUD superbly succinct
Great video as always edd
I do disagree with you that prime x is more stable then the invincible run tho
Unless the strung is way more stable then the normal prime x (the one I have)
I don’t suffer with stability in any shoe apart from the prime x which is very wobbly
I’d give it a 0.5 for stability and give the the invincible 1.5
I don’t find that at all with the primex strung to be honest. It’s absolutely more stable to me than the Nike.
So strange how two people can try the same two shoes and have such different experiences
@@steveh8758 I agree, the Believe in the Run team rated the SC Trainer as their favourite max cushioned shoe of 2022, like Ed they noted it really isn't good for anything other than slow miles. I think the Prime X is an outlier in this group because I don't think it's intended as a max cushioned easy effort recovery shoe like the others, it's Addidas making an ultra fast marathon shoe without constraints (stability probably being its only issue). I find my Prime X originals hard to do long slow recovery runs in because it just like to go fast.
I HAVE NEW BALANCE FF MORE V4 IN MY ROTATION I LOVE THEM..MAX KUSH!! #SAVETHELEGS
Isn't the Triumph 20 the actual max cushion offering from Saucony?
Definitely more cushioned, but the Shift is higher stack at 35/39 vs 27/37.
There’s a huge stack on the shift. As such it’s max cushion. I don’t own the triumph so can’t include a shoe I don’t have.
I have taken the decision of upgrading my current running shoes to the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 after the advice on this channel and others. Got them on a deal at a bargain price of 50 earth credits. My last couple of pairs were Asics with my most recent pair being the GT-xpress 2 which I found was a very good all round shoe. I've been running for 2 years now and have my first marathon coming up in May. I will use the Puma for my daily grind shoe but im looking for a good first marathon shoe what do you recommend ? Keep up the amazing work mate, thank you for your videos
Hard to look beyond the alphafly, endorphin pro 3 and VF to be honest for the marathon.
@EDDBUD thank you so much for yet more advice. I have opted for a pair of VF some unreal deals out there just now.
Where would the Adistar's to other max cushioned shoes?
I dread even putting them on again!
HEY EDD WHERES THE NEW BALANCE FRESH FOAM MORE V4 IN THIS LIST?
I don’t own it. Thus I can’t include it in the list.
How about the superblast?
Not tried that so can’t really comment and compare here
I think it's always a good idea to get in the gym, strengthen the whole body, particularly the legs. Then the athletes body can absorb and cope with the impact of running, rather than relying on cushioning in a shoe alone.
Yes though these are good on the longer slower runs
@@EDDBUD A good topic for a video would be investigating what type of trainer puts a runner's body under greatest strain... Max cushioned shoe Vs regular cushioned "daily trainer" type shoe Vs light speed shoe. Maybe go to some scientific lab where they can accurately measure the metrics involved and come up with a definite answer. 💡💡💡
The strung primeX may be more stable and I like the outsole..unfortunately it still doesn't have the foam dialed to make it a long run shoe for me..haven't been able to get past 6-8miles before Iwant it off my feet..the invincible runs flat after a couple miles..the ON is a brick..the shift is probably the best of them but I haven't used the NB..I was interested and then saw that they are changing the NB quite a bit..less midsole and less wt may make it more versatile ..
Is there much difference between the shift 2 and 3?
Didn’t try the shift 2 so can’t comment.
@@EDDBUD oh right, they just look the same, except for price
Cloudmonster was a big disappointment for me. Their relatively new daily trainer, the Cloud Go, actually feels like it has more cushion. I just can’t find a great use for the Cloudmonster.
The Prime X though… mmmmmmmmm.
The cloud monster looks a like it will provide lots of cushion. Sadly it was a big illusion!
Yah I use the Triumph 20 over the Shift. Much better shoe.
Can anyone recommend me some good running shoe? I run on the roads, usually less than 3km and sprint a lot at the same time too ,
(Looking for a shoe with good cushioning and decent energy return with good grip)
Nike vaporfly if you’re sprinting and you can normally get them on sale
Takumi sen 8 is your shoe
I’m looking for an extremely comfortable and cushioned shoe for my wife, who works 10 hour shifts standing on concrete.
Invincible run. Got to be the choice
Atreyu The Artist: squashy, versatile, very light, stable to me and a great value (low durablity). I’ve run a 50k and 26.2 road races in them, tempo work and use them a lot for easy recovery days
Thanks for sharing!
It's the Prime X and then it's everything else
Yep that’s pretty much it!
Asics superblast?
Not tried it so can’t include it in a comparison video.
New balance More V4?
Only included shoes I actually own
Hi
Silver for the collection
Max Cushion, didn't he marry Whoopi Goldberg?
Beautiful Ones by Suede is a great recommendation! A lot of people dunk on 90s music, but I think they were just listening to the wrong stuff! Tony Angelino, what a singer he was! 😭

I don’t think so. Good shoe with an improved upper on the v2. Works for me and many others.
