Very interesting. Good soild stuff. This material also covered by Roger Forster and Paul Marston in their 1999 publication "reason science and faith - pp242-304". As a classical pentecostal believer I find this very enlightening. I must say I enjoyed the "informal" discussion panel approach and references to secular groups and songs from my youth (youth being anywhere from age 15 to 32 - I am now 67)

34:07-37:42 I wrote this in "Science vs. The Bible" but I'll repeat it here: Eating from The Tree of Life would not remedy eating from Good and Evil.
If I eat a poisoned steak, drinking un-poisoned water will not remedy that. So Adam and Eve could not have that easy cop out.
You say that they were mortal before they ate the forbidden fruit because they needed a Tree of Life. Why, though? God tells them that the day they eat the forbidden fruit they will surely die. So as soon as they rebelled against God, death awaited them.
The Tree of Life kept them living, hence why it was a tree of life. Good and Evil made them die.
If they were already going to die while eating from The Tree of Life, then why is the punishment for eating the bad tree death?

Really interesting and I agree with John about mankind being made moral with access to eternal life through the tree of life. I recently read a book by Kris Vallatton called Fashioned to Reign. He suggested that mankind, created in the image of God, was created with both female and male characteristics so when God took woman "out of man" He separated out the different characteristics into two individuals. I would be interested to hear John's thoughts on this. Keep up the great work.

0:36 No, but it is Biblical. Hebrews 13:16. You quote that in Lyle The Kindly Viking.

It's not a a matter of right or wrong. It's about whether or not that's our only option when looking at the language and ancient near east mindset. Not just modern English.

50:03 It does though. Even the 6 days are contradictory with evolution.

@@mattvw9287 I haven't, admittedly, but I have listened to this and other John Walton podcasts and I highly disagree with much of his theology, especially with creationism.
Phil and Skye always critique statements made by Ken Ham, but I wonder if they have heard about Kent Hovind? (The guy in the above video.) He's a Young Earth Creationist who has seminars that show evidence for a literal 6 day creation.
I sent him these videos and he does videos criticizing evolution, so I am hoping he can put some light on them.
When he finally does, I hope I can put it in a Holy Post comment section and Phil can see and respond to it/them.

@@zacharysiple629, You should read the Lost World of Genesis One.
Walton is looking specifically at the text and comparing it to other areas. Notice, Walton doesn't deny ANY creation theory, he simply says the text isn't trying to answer those questions.
