It's been quite the ride since Jay Exci's "The Fall of Doctor Who" video back in May 2021, and trust me, a lot has happened!
In this video, we're diving into the exciting developments that have reshaped our beloved show over the past few years. From the controversial Chibnall era to the jaw-dropping return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner, we're covering it all.
    MY PATRONS:

    - TheBeastBoss
But first, let's address the elephant in the room - Jodie Whittaker's Doctor and Chris Chibnall's tenure. Some loved it, some had their reservations. Undoubtedly, there were standout moments, but also some storytelling hiccups along the way. Let's not forget the timeless child mystery that had fans debating endlessly.
However, we firmly believe that the "fall" of Doctor Who goes further back, to the departure of David Tennant. His iconic portrayal elevated the show to new heights. And when he left, there was a moment when the BBC considered ending it all. Thank goodness they didn't!
Russell T. Davies' return is like a dream come true. His previous tenure brought us modern Doctor Who and gave us unforgettable moments, companions, and villains. And let's not forget the groundbreaking storytelling and that unforgettable theme music by Murray Gold!
Speaking of companions, Catherine Tate is back as Donna Noble, and we're all here for it! Bernard Cribbins and Jacqueline King are joining in too. It's a victory lap for a truly iconic era.
But hold on to your sonic screwdrivers, because the 60th-anniversary special will see the return of David Tennant himself as the 14th Doctor! Yes, you heard that right. He's not reprising the 10th Doctor; he's a new incarnation, and we're all excited to see where this takes us.
Now, let's talk about Ncuti Gatwa - the brilliant actor taking on the role of the 15th Doctor. With his talent, energy, and advocacy for the show, he's a rising star who's sure to take us on extraordinary adventures.
And there's more! Doctor Who is now partnering with Disney+. While some have concerns, we're hopeful that this collaboration will expand the show's reach, budget, and potential spin-offs while preserving its essence.
The future of Doctor Who is shining brighter than a supernova, and we can't wait to see where it takes us.

I think it was a stroke of genius to announce Ncuti Gatwa before David Tennant. That assured us that no matter what, we were getting a brand new Doctor. We were just getting David Tennant back for a bit as well.

@@captainamerica3067 Yeah, we knew he was coming back, just like we knew he was coming back for the 50th. Doctors have reprised their roles throughout the history of the show. I just can’t wrap my mind around the whole “it’s unfair to Ncuti Gatwa” thing.
In my opinion, they handled it in the best way possible. They announced him BEFORE the confirmation of Tennant as Fourteen. I’d actually find it *more* disrespectful if they had Jodie regenerate into Ncuti… only for Ncuti’s debut episode to be an anniversary one where he’s now overshadowed by other Doctors.
They did it the right way.

People may dislike the Capaldi era, but no one faults Capaldi for it. The consensus seems to be that Capaldi as an actor is clearly in that growing set of actors that were perfectly cast for a role and then let down by the screenplays, or showrunners in control during their time in that role ( best example being Affleck Batman ). If you look at global viewing figures 11 outperforms 10 by miles during his run and during the 50th, which remember doesn't come until the very end of 11th's run. The success of the 50th as a global phenomenon would not have happened without Moffat's era being so successful overseas in a way RTD era never was. 11's era also was peak global Who marketing, with advertising for series 6 on the side of New York buses for example and series openers premiering in cinemas. Matt and Capaldi are my modern doctors. My main issue is that Chibnall pushed aside a lot of his era; the Doctors name that he knows and no one else - doesn't make sense in the new canon. River Song conceived in the same way as the timelords, doesn't make sense. With RTD embracing Chibnall's retcons it seems like unfortunately that is the era that is being pushed aside.

Old Whovian here. Loved your magic and enthusiasm for the up and coming 60th.
Personally, I've never been so excited for Doctor Who since...... 1963!
After really enjoying "An Unearthy Child" my father and I sat and waited for the second ever episode. Only to find out that the BBC would repeat the 1st episode again for a 2nd time. But they realized, in their wisdom that viewing figures for Ep 1 would be low, due to the sad news that shocked the world, that JFK had been assassinated 2 days before the 1st episode was aired.
So as a 10 year old boy, the lifelong addiction was hatched.
Now, 60 years later and here we still are.

I left the show when Jodie was the doctor i couldn’t stand her doctor or her cardboard companions one bit so David coming back as 14 brought me back. I love Donna she’s my fave companion. I enjoyed Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi’s versions of the doctor but 10 was everything i ever imagined the doctor to be and i grew up watching the show my first introduction to the doctor was Jon Pertwee as the third doctor and watched them all except for Jodie’s. David Tennant is a phenomenal actor and can bring any character he plays to life effortlessly plus he and Catherine work so well together. I wouldn’t say no to a spin off featuring David as the meta crisis doctor or the time lord victorious. I was and still am a bit apprehensive about Russell and Tennant coming back, because even during their initial run there were a lot of things I thought were genuinely bad (as there have been with every era, but certain aspects of this one in particular always rubbed me the wrong way). Since the start of the Moffatt era, I've seen so many people putting Russell's era on a pedestal and treating it as this flawless, untouchable thing, and they've only become louder over the years. So now I'm concerned that all the worst elements of that era will be back and even more pronounced, because any bad writing decisions from back then will seem to have been vindicated by the number of nostalgic voices clamouring for more of the same, and that this shows the writers that it was the "right" way to do Doctor Who all along, rather than critically reflecting on what didn't work and improving on it. Still cautiously optimistic though, and I'm really looking forward to Gatwa's take on the character.

Otherwise what's the point of him having lived as 11-13?

I imagine that maybe finishing some things that were left "undone" might help him - which is likely why Donna is involved. As for what else, I'm not sure, but I'm like 70% sure it's going to end up with him finally being ready to go, since his last line was pretty famous.

Finally someone who did the homework!
People are still so hell bent that the problem started with the 13th Doctor and I was with the show all the way, no matter which Doctor came in. I gave my two cents only after the era ended (because one should have all the facts before judging...) while a lot of people had already thrown an axe against the show even before S11 aired/ended. I do recognize plenty of problems with some of the characters and stories (especially Ryan), but the Timeless Child was actually the least of those concerns because a lot of it made sense in perspective (despite the fact I was no fan of the Morbius Doctor theory back then).
The real problem with this supposed "fall of modern Who" doesn't come from this latest era but rather from Tennant's era which set the zeitgeist of what Doctor Who SHOULD be but not what it COULD be, just like Tom's era in the 80s. Sure, I agree that some of those "nostalgia hype" advocates may be right about the show going back to a more familiar format and helping those who felt alienated after Tennant left. In return, the show is not going forward either, whether you create a new generation of Who under the RTD umbrella or reinforce the old one. Modern Who is so close to being stuck in 2006 forever that we might have to change the name at this point and RTD is not at fault here. RTD is definitely a great writer but he won't always be there to pick up all the missing pieces and the audience (as well as the critics) need to understand that this show constantly evolves into very different things, not necessarily the ones we identify with or remember. With that said, I'm sure RTD will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people, even if the show has a tough road ahead to pave.

I am fairly new to the Doctor Who fandom. Picked up the whole New Who series about a year ago and caught up in time to be excited with everyone for the next Doctor. I also watched some Classic Who episodes recommended by the fandom and it has been awesome. I regret not watching the series earlier. That said I’m so excited for Ncuti and the return of Tennant. Even as a new fan I can tell that everyone is excited. It does feel like the best time to be a Doctor Who fan. ❤
As a side note I understand in a way why people weren’t a big fan of of the 13th Doctor or I should say the writing around the 13th Doctor but I was a big fan of her character. I don’t know I personally have liked every single Doctor, they all have something that makes all their seasons interesting even if the writing is not always the best. I think one reason why the BBC and Disney made a deal for Doctor Who is because Disney made a ton of money with another BBC (and ABC) property: Bluey. While us Americans don't like how Disney censored Bluey here, it is a success - and frankly it is probably one of the most popular shows on the platform. If Bluey wasn't so successful internationally on Disney+, I doubt they would be streaming Doctor Who.

I agree that the future looks bright with Russell at the helm. The man knows how to write incredibly successful television. Tennant and Tate returning for the 60th is exciting but Ncuti is what I'm looking forward to the most. He's fantastic in Sex Education and if he carries over a fraction of that camp eccentricity then he'll make for one hell of a Doctor. It all looks like it's onwards and upwards again. Let's hope that it delivers.
In regards to the "Fall" of the show. I think it fell off after Matt's first series. S5 was the last really good, well written and well developed series. I feel there was a brief crossover of fans from the RTD era willing to give Smith/Moffat a chance and a selection of new audiences being introduced to the show through the new Doctor.
Following S5, I personally feel, there was a significant drop in the quality of writing and an even bigger drop in audience and commercial appeal. Sure it was making it big in the USA with S6 but over here in Blighty most people were switching off in favour of other programmes and it's not all too surprising considering how S6 shaped up on the whole.
It had its moments from S6 onwards with some great episodes and, naturally, the 50th put the show back in the public eye, but I don't think it ever really recovered post-S5 and was steadily on the decline up until the promos for the 60th.

I'm highly inclined to agree, and I think RTD ironically contributed to that by making S4 & its specials such a final note, at least in my eyes.
S4's finale was *my* Infinity War - The Doctor and literally every New Who companion, along with their spinoff cast, up against their most iconic adversaries with the fate of all time & space in the balance. Couple that with a final send-off for the Master & the near death of the Doctor, I would have personally been okay with the show fully ending at S4.
S5 was really good, though with the ending piggybacking off of last season's crisis, I think it was fair to say that Doctor Who just wasn't going to be the same after the RTD era.
Don't get me wrong, there have been INCREDIBLE episodes in between - some of the best we've seen in a decade - but for the longevity & overall timelessness of the show, RTD's writing style just...fits.
He knows what he's doing, and I'm hoping he plans to bring his a-game this time around too

The one thing about RTD is that he has so much faith in Doctor Who as an IP. He not only takes risks, but he has the confidence in the show to pull through. He is not just the head writer, he is the showrunner, moreso than Steven Moffat was, certainly more than Chibnall was.
Russel doesn't just want to write a few episodes and call it a year. He has a real vision for the show and has already done a hell of a lot to pursue it. He's brought back Tennant and Tate for the 60th! He got Neil Patrick Harris, an all-time-great to be a real event villain. I don't know how he wrangled Ncuti Gatwa to partake, but he is the exact sort of leading man Russel needs to not just restore Doctor Who, but to take it beyond what it has been before. He has already done more to establish the legitimacy of the show than Moffat had by the time or than Chibnall ever did.

I do not think the 60th will be any good, because it is not a multi Doctor story that captures enough of the past Incarnations. 14 and 15 are in it, but will be at the end when 14 regenerates. That is not a multi Doctor story. That is a regeneration story.
He could use the Celestial Toymaker to create a story that deals with a few of the previous Doctors dealing with him exactly as the 14th faces him, and could use 6, 7 and 8 in that story, or any one of the Doctors to do so, as the novels and Big Finish both did.@@CrispyPro

He's still his 10th self, just in a new incarnation. Think of it like a modern Mustang compared to a classic. Like the curator said, the doctor will sometimes revisit old faces, but only the favourites. 4th doctor was one, as the curator, and now 10th as the 14th.

I think that Sean is exactly right - the BBC really was trying for a popularity boost. I wasn’t planning on watching the next season of Dr Who after Flux (and I didn’t watch Flux on air, only on iPlayer later)

While I don't mind DW being on Disney, I along with other Australians are NOT happy and object that after almost 59 years (first appeared on ABC television in 1964) new Doctor Who is no longer available on ABC television Australia's national public broadcaster ABC for Free
Generations of Australians have watched Dr Who, now that has been taken away 😓 from us
Not every Australian DW fan will pay $140 a year and subscribe to a streaming service, neither the ABC, Australian people or the Australian Federal Government had any say in this decision
Feels like BBC has betrayed Doctor Who Fans in Australia

They took it off Bitbox so we can't watch Classic, they are nearly all of IVIEW so we can't watch anything before Power of the Doctor and now the revealing its from these specials as in the 60th to IDK When that would only be things up on Disney+...Seems like Australian Fans and some creators who have been at this show for nearly 60 years watching for FREE are getting mucked up when DW is 60!!!

Plus promotion at the end of the era was like no where to be scene and look at us for having the release date already for the 60th, I didn't expect to have those this earlier on.

DT UK audience viewership was high but the international base was much higher post his era under Smith. The idea Doctor Who fell off under Smith is so harsh on Matt.

I want to see Russell T Davis stay on as THE executive producer on the Whoniverse long term, like Kevin Fiege at Marvel. There's so many opportunities now and I'd like some kind of long term multiseason storyline.

14:05 Tennant will be the 15th Doctor if you’re counting chronologically. You didn’t count John Hurt’s Doctor, who was a legitimate incarnation in Time Lord canon. If you count the fact that Tennant also burned a regeneration when he cloned himself, that would increase count by yet another, which would make the upcoming Tennant specials having Tennant as #16 rather than 14 as you stated.
But who’s counting, really, and WHEN WILL THEY BRING BACK MATT SMITH?

“Down-to-earth while you’re up in space” is why science-fantasy can be my favourite genre. Inject philosophical arguments into a relatable context on a fantastical setting with worldbuilding rooted in scientific concepts.

I have been talking about Doctor who, thanls to Good omens, so I'm pretty sure he had been busy with filming Good Omens and then filming the 60 that's a lot to do. Not sure about that but hey. :D I still need to watch Broadchurch still not ready, one day I will. One day I will.
Edit, how didn't you watch Good Omens yet, there's a DVD for season 1? It's really good or you could at least read the book, not the exact same thing since the book was written in 1990 (I thought it was earlier than that weird).
