the clumsy flesh-colored lycra shorts on the dancers were imposed by management only for this one performance, as it was broadcast live world-wide on a sunday afternoon. at all other performances they were naked but for a little gold paint and a minimal schmata over the bits. the effect of course was astonishing, the affect deep. the choreographer is AUSTIN McCORMICK, julliard graduate, whose own COMPANY XIV has been delighting audiences with immersive next-level revolutionary evenings in the theater for 15+ years, most recently at their own warehouse space in bushwick, brooklyn -- transformed into an intimate tricked-out enchanted cabaret theater. in COMPANY XIV's current ballet, circus, song, burlesque extravaganza, SEVEN SINS, one of the dancers in this video performs extraordinary aerial work suspended over the audience -- just one of many wonders to behold . . .
The choreographer completely missed the point in this scene. This is a belly dancer scene. Having lived in Algeria, Saint-Saens was familiar with the genre! The hand cymbals should have been a clue! Also, correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't this the scene when Samson brings the whole temple down?
Not sure about the choreography; felt like a Beyonce video. Otherwise, the staging and orchestra are amazing. Not to mention the singing during the entire opera. Bravi!
@@catherinehamer5653 I watched Pan's People to make sure. I suppose they look more like Perfume than the 1983ver. I once thought that was influenced from Thriller and cheerleading.
I mean, two of the girls kissed at one point sooo... This is from 2018, so there’s more likely to be some ... colorful interpretations of the original text.
Tamest Bacchanale Ive ever seen, The music promises much more than this.

What a marvelous piece- literally a never ending stream of famous melodies
素敵!ありがとうございます🙏🤗✨
Beautiful choreography
The scale pattern on the giant statue makes it look like Aquaman!

I prefer 1983ver. to this one.
1983 version looked as though it was choreographed for Pan’s People on Top of the Pops circa 1976. This version is more Fellini extravaganza
Anyway I’m only here researching the 🎶

Nice staging; what company is this ?
Metropolitan opera
The production is at the Metropolitan Opera, NYC. The choreography and concept are by AUSTIN McCORMICK of COMPANY XIV . . .
I don't like the staging at all. It reminds me of Carousel from Logan's Run. Who came up with this nonsense?
Renew!
Opening scene is more like Gay pride day. Where are the women?
Women will come out soon after the beginning. After all, this is Bacchanale, so I feel it is really an appropriate way to begin this.

They’re in Baal’s torso; I think it’s appropriate.
Great, isn't it? I couldn't take my eyes off the guys 😍

Pretty disappointing production with the worst temple collapse ever produced.
