Gorgeous truck man. I myself am more of a Toyota guy (drive a 99 TRD SR5 with v6 in it, rare purple mica color), but I grew up with nissan as well. My grandfather had an 80's nissan with v6 in it he used to take us to a farm he had a few dozen head cattle on and we would work out there all day long, and in the evening sit back and talk stories while we passed his cigar around. Still to this day have a special place in my heart for Nissan trucks and cigars.
Just bought my own 1994 SE V6 4X4 with 150k miles. Needs to be repainted and a new set of tires, but is in great shape over all. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me because my dad had one. I love your attitude towards this truck and your’s in the best review video I’ve seen. Keep the good work.
I love this truck. I remember when this bodystyle came out (I'm old). Always thought they looked tough. Please keep it forever. It found a good home with you. Very happy to see a young person in to old trucks. Nissans were just as good as Toyotas in the 80s and 90s.
I was a Nissan service manager when these trucks were new. I personally drove them for 22 years, I had a bunch of them all the way from 1971 (when they were Datsun) all the way up to 1996 , the D22 moniker was the model that you referred to at the dealer when purchasing parts, the hardbody name was used in advertising. Over the years I owned models 521,620, 720 and D21 , about 30 of them, and most with over 100 k miles, also owned a few brand new, I went to Jeep after that in 1997 , I have a wrangler and a gladiator, my next truck is going to be another Nissan, loved your video , great looking truck.
im crying watching this video, reminds me of my D21 i had back in the day. Unfortunately i had to sell it because of financial issues. Mine was the double cab TD27, yes it was a diesel because i'm from Mauritius. Bought new from the dealer in 1996. It was rwd only. If i have one advice to give you Toby take good care of it.
Cool truck! Brings back a lot of memories. I bought a brand new 1986.5 Hardbody 4x4 when they first came out. It was an awesome truck. Congratulations on your Hardbody. It looks great!
I had a 1988, some of the best times in my life. Drove all over the country. NYC, Key West, Chicago and everywhere in between. Bare bones who needs all that shit in todays vehicles. Never left me stranded. Great video, brought back some awesome memories. Thx
Few weeks Ago I Just bought one Just like yours. Trim SE manufactured in USA. 300k miles on it, its 1997 4wd K24SE engine. It has 2 inch body lift And 1 inch suspension lift. 31 inch tires with original 15x8 chrome wheels. Love this car from now on, im from Costa Rica in Central America.
I have a ‘92 that I bought in 2000. It was from n. Carolina so it’s still very clean and it’s stored in the winter. 129k on the odo, se model black, at, v6, engine compartment very clean also. Although it’s a se it has manual locks and windows but ac and no sunroof, wish it did but I love the truck. My brother bought one in ‘89 brand new regular cab, man trans, 2wd no rear bumper lol, he paid 5 or 6k for it. Man how times have changed. By the way this was a very good video, very well done. Take care of your truck, it’s a nice find!
Hey man! great vid! I used to own a 1997 Nissan Hardbody 4X4, it was the 2.4L KA24E engine with the 5 speepd manual, she was my first truck that i got when i was 16. I bought her with 87,000 miles on it. I took care of her like it was my kid. Just like you i also put a matchbox on the dash! Sadly, i moved back to Switzerland and had to sell it. Now that i'm back in Switzerland, i got myself a 2010 Nissan NP300, crew cab, 2.5L YD25DDTI engine, 5 speed manual, and many more. Even my new NP300 is a 2010, there is still a lot of the same parts from my 1997 Hardbody. your truck is really really clean, love what you've done with the bed cover and the bumper. i'd love to share some photos of my 1997 truck with ya, or anyone who wants to see!
great video! i’m prepping to buy a ‘96 king cab in a couple days, 4x4 with the manual in fantastic shape with almost no rust, which is wild given i’m in massachusetts. she’s got about 187k miles, same shade of red as yours. can’t wait to break her in!
I really like your truck, a very rare one these days. My son has a 1990 Pathfinder that I handed down to him years ago. It has the same engine model as yours. 1990 was the first year Nissan released the 4-door version. It is not an SUV, but a truck. The Pathfinder and the Hardbody trucks of that era have a heavy-duty frame. The 90' Pathfinder has a total weight of 5,000 pounds which is the weight of a full size 4X4 of today (approx. 4,950 pounds) I imagine that your truck weight is in the same neighborhood in weight that my son's PF is. The owner of a body shop once mentioned to me that if he were to be in a collision, he would hope to be in an old Pathfinder like ours than any other passenger vehicle. Just subscribed to your channel. I run between 25 - 30 fish tanks at any given time of various freshwater species.
My dad had this truck(1990) in white in the late 90s to early 2000s. I loved that truck and called it the white monster because it was a bit rusty. I drove it in high school and took it deer hunting off road. Road tripped to New York from Ohio. Got a kiss from a girl i had a crush on. Lots of memories. Died ar 330k miles. It liked to blow tie rods. The radio wasn't great but worked but you didn't need much when you were listening to Dire Straits on cassette. The jump seats were nice in a pinch, we even had four of us in there which was me and two teenage brothers and our dad, drive two and half hours on a small road trip. The engine sound really takes me back. The tires also sucked but it did okay in the snow when you went out, locked the hubs manually, and switched to 4 low. My dad was also a part time fire and ems guy so when the sirens went off, my dad literally peeled out and id hear him red line until out of ear shot and me being a hugh school kid, was running it hot all the time doing fish tails. We hauled rocks, mulch, rototillers, camping gear, everything. No issue. Had a really high suspension too. The seats WERE verh comfortable. If you're looking at this truck and seeing if it sucks, it doesn't. Its awesome and after my kids are gone, will get this truck. You'll just love this truck.
I'm not even a car guy, but man you make a good video. Watched start to finish and now you got me thinking about a nice D21 for myself. Apparently the '96 and '97 models actually came with airbags lol.
Love your truck and video about it! I've got a 96' Hardbody base, 2WD version. Very reliable vehicles, as you know. I'm checking out your other videos as well. I just recently got into fish aquariums. Keep the content coming.
This is awesome. I have a base model 94, worked half to death, rusted the other half to death, but still working beautifully as my first car, and my first manual
You got a nice truck there kid! i have owned my v6 5speed extended cab since 2006 its black its a 1995 last year of the V6. i had it all repainted in 2019 and had all the graphics taken off the truck and its solid black now. it has the stock rims still with the fender flares. Just a great all around truck iam 42 now and its the only truck i have ever owned!
I got in a pretty bad wreck in my hard body but this thing took it like a champ. I was able to get it all fixed and it continues to run like a tank. This thing saved my life and i will continue to keep it running as long as i live.
That's a good looking SE. Mine's an XE-V6, same year. Not as pretty externally as yours, but she still runs and doesn't have any rust cancer. Those switches on the center armrest were options for the Pathfinder, since they were essentially the same vehicle with a different body on the frame. One was for heated seats, another was for rear defrost or wipers I believe. There was a third option that I don't recall, I think foglights or something similar.
Nice truck, Muchacho!! I have an 85 that’s basically the same package but the purple blue looking color. I’ve always wanted one of these D2 ones in this purple blue color❤️😂
Grew up with trucks my entire life and these were always one of my favorites. Right now I'm trying to restore an '83 Nissan/Datsun 720 which you should definitely cover if you ever come across one.
A friend gifted me a 97 bout a year ago. Everything wrong with it. Nothing works. But even with that its the best truck ive ever had. Reliable and tough as hell. I think im keeping this one.

Wow, the red ones always look so good. Yours is no exception. My 1993 SE-V6 4x4 is silver. Question: Does yours still have the original mirror on the passenger side sun visor? Mine is missing. I haven't been able to find any pictures of the original online. If I could find a photo, then maybe I could design one for 3D printing. But it seems like they're missing from most trucks. I have a 92 nissan pick up that is a king cub. It has almost the same features in there, minis the sun roof and having to lock the doors manually and rolling up the windows manually.
That’s why I love my Toyota pick up 22RE true JDM truck build in Japan. Only thing I like about the Nissan trucks is the tail gate has the Nissan stamped instead of the sticker
I believe you will find a cup holder that folds out if you pull out that little trim piece above the stereo screen. I Had an 89 Toyota that hid it just like that looks in the same place.
@@TobyCreates If you search 1989 Toyota pickup cupholders you will see why I thought there would be one there. I wish their would have been. It's a great looking truck.
My wife has a 1997 Nissan Hardbody 2-sheel drive pickup. Her fuel lid door lock will NOT hold the door shut. The fuel lid door stays popped open. I bought a brand new one thru eBay and wanted to ask you please...does a knife or screwdriver, and prying the old one out really WORK? Or is there a secret to getting the old fuel lid door lock out? I'm speaking of the square piece that the the male plug on the lid goes into, that is attached to the truck body. THANK YOU FOR ANNY HELP ON THIS!!!!
Nissan before Renault got involved was amazing. They were as reliable as Toyota. My last Nissan was a Y60 Safari fire truck i imported from japan. Solid as a rock.
Crazy i watched you years back. You basically were a kid creating aquariums. How time flies 😢
I have a 94 Nissan SE V6. King cab 4x4 . It’s been my daily driver since 2002.
You won the jackpot with that truck! Great condition considering it's age and it will run forever.
My Hardbody is an honest truck for an honest days work. I wish the president of our HOA drove one. I'd respect him more.
Back 3 months later and not intoxicated. I don't even belong to an HOA. Don't do Modelo's kids....they're the devil.
