  • This meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for 2 FULL weeks. That’s 14 days of meals for around $160.
    Some of these recipes take a little bit of time so it’s up to you if you’d like to spend a little more for the convenience of some ready-made substitutions.
    I highly recommend looking for the least expensive grocery store near you, like Walmart or Aldi. I currently shop at Aldi, as it’s the cheapest option near me, but be sure to compare prices before shopping by using the stores’ app and searching for the products you need.

    I have not seen hotdogs sold for .89 cents at any grocery store around me for over five years and a package of chicken thighs like that one is @ $18 to $22 where I live in Canada, the price of one whole chicken was $23.49 cents and a bag of potatoes was $7.99 the last time I went grocery shopping. Aldi prices differ in different cities. You may find that the city/county next door is cheaper than yours! Gasoline, rent, too. The difference adds up. I learned the difference about groceries when i happened to shop at a Giant food that was between myself and my parents. The cost was a lot less than my neighborhood Giant for every item. I shop at Aldi and Walmart and only at Safeway and Giant for a loss leader (if they will sell it without having a minimum purchase of $25. I buy little meat. I instead keep to vegetables and lentils, beans, ric, pasta, potatoes, bread (or make my own bread). Thank you for the video!

    Another inexpensive idea for you that I have always used in my arsenal of homemade biscuits, buns, and bread is homemade Red Lobster style Chedarbay Biscuits! They are basically a regular drop biscuit with cheddar cheese, a lot of garlic, and then brushed with garlic butter after baking. They are great as a side with chili or soups, but are fantastic filled with tuna or chicken salads! Focaccia can also be made into a light lunch when topped with chopped pepperoni, black olives, halved cherry tomatoes, a sprinkling of romano or parmesan cheese, and a light sprinkle of garlic olive oil over the it all before they are baked. The tomatos will sweeten and burst if you put the cut side down. Focaccia can also be treated like a premade made pizza crust. They can be frozen or refrigerated, and then topped and baked when you need them. 😊

    Try making a homemade cheese pizza cut it into thick strips…serve with some homemade creamy, basil tomato soup, or store bought if your family prefers that. Sure to fill everyone up and most kids love cheese pizza. This is sometimes a meatless meal for my family. Also, try making a taco Spanish pizza. Mash up the beans to spread on pizza crust after it is baked, top with some leftover cooked ground sausage or ground beef, then top with shredded lettuce, grated Mexican blend cheese, chopped tomato, Jalapeño ( for those who love them), and chopped black olives. Serve with your favorite salsa. Pizza can also be used to clean out the refrigerator just before you need to go shopping again. Make a vegetable pizza with spicy ( Rotel) tomatoes. Use: yellow squash, broccoli, cauliflower, red onion, roasted garlic, Anaheim peppers or what ever you have on hand. Spread olive oil with roasted garlic on crust, top with vegetables, feta cheese with a light sprinkle of fresh mozzarella. Make one with five meats( saved in small quantities from other dishes: bacon, salami, link sausage, ground beef, steak…etc. I place these all in a bag ( they are all cooked), save for a day when money is tight and your family is wanting pizza. I also save brown gravy when I have plenty leftover and freeze it. Then for a light lunch there can be French fries topped with brown gravy and other sides to get rid of. Just some things I do to stretch things. 😊

      @LauraLegge  10 місяців тому +4

    • @nancyculp6968
      @nancyculp6968 9 місяців тому +1

      @@marystrenke3050 if you use half ground beef and half ground pork sausage it stretches your beef and gives your chili a great depth of flavor…then use the ground beef you saved and the ground pork to make meatballs, and add finely ground fresh bread crumbs to stretch the meat, along with some grated onion, garlic, S& P and any other seasonings you use. If it only makes a few you can make them into tiny meatballs the size of a nickel and make Italian Wedding Soup, or make them about the size of a quarter and put them alternating with bell pepper, onion and pineapple chunks on small wooden picks( skewers) then grill or bake on cookie sheet while basting with a sauce: teriyaki, wild wings has a new sweet & spicy sauce that I bet would be good( might be too spicy for children…I don’t know), or a sauce of your choice. Then serve over some white rice : I cook my rice first then cut up some celery, green onion, tiny pieces of carrot and sauté in some butter until carrot is tender and toss with enough rice to feed about four people( about 3to 4 cups of cooked rice). Add S& P to taste. If you want you can toss in some slivered almonds in with vegetables while cooking( if there are no nut allergies). If I can get a box of Long Grain and Wild Rice mix( which is easy and delicious), I serve this with it too. When I buy five pounds of ground beef I make: a meatloaf and freeze it raw in a plastic freezer bag, then brown about half of pound for tacos, then make four burgers made from the seasoned meat I made meat loaf out of( just take out enough for four, before I add in my bell peppers), so my basic seasonings are: Lipton onion soup mix, little milk, very finely, fresh bread crumbs done in food processor, garlic or garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce( add in tiny diced green bell pepper for meatloaf after taking out what you need for burgers), mix everything together and form burgers. Freeze until ready to grill or cook in oven with a piece of bacon wrapped around outer rim to make faux fillets or on cook top. Now you can make take some out for meatballs, and place in labeled baggie, finely add in bell pepper and form into meatloaf and place in freezer bag and freeze. I usually rotate whether I want to us ground beef as tacos or spaghetti sauce( Spaghetti sauce stretches further), I usually add half ground beef and half ground pork sausage to make mine. A little bacon drippings to cook your onion, bell pepper and garlic in. Then add in little tomato paste cook for few minutes then add in water. Sprinkle in your Italian seasonings, little red wine if you want and S&P to taste. Now you just made your own sauce from a 68 cent can of tomato paste. If family does not like bell pepper, add in a little diced carrot…just make it very tiny so kids who are picky eaters do not see the orange. Now you have meals for the week…plus if you have any sauce left add to rice to make stuffed bell peppers that are cut in half lengthwise ( to stretch them) and top with a piece of bacon to cover top. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Any meatloaf that is leftover turn into a soup or sandwiches and serve them with baked French fries and brown gravy. I never through anything away. Reinvent anything you have leftover.

      Adding cilantro, parsley or green onions on top of most Mexican type dishes really adds visually, flavor & texture. Keep up the good work. I have never seen anyone make so many breads. I like Dave’s Killer bread for nutrition but you save a lot of money on the others. I heard that the Dollar Stores have tortillas for $1.25 for 12. That might be cost & labor saving also.

    I am amazed at the prices you found on these items. There are no prices this low in my area. Even though I live in a good sized. Our choices are limited to United and a couple of their sub chains. ( they own a higher end name of market and a Hispanic chain. Prices are absolutely the same on all of them ). And Walmart ( sams). Each time another chain or store tries to come to town Walmart or United swoops in and buys the land out from under them. Costco was approved here to come in by city. Every piece of land they started to build on was somehow purchased by Walmart. So there is no grocery outlet, nothing. No competition.
