The prices are more online because it's designed for when an aldi employee shops for you
You could've made a cream of carrot soup by using your pasta water to cook the cut up carrots, bullion and your immersion blender.. I have been using and freezing my pasta water for so many other dishes. I even thickened my beans with it. It didn't change the taste at all.
Hi Pat 😁 Haven't talked to you in awhile. Glad you're back 😁 Great idea on the cream of carrot soup.
I like this idea! I am just one and cannot eat much at a time so this works well for me. Thanks so much.❤
I was thinking carrot 🥕 soup too.
I love Cheesecake Factory!
@@jennifercarr5364 SAME!
I think the reason the pricing is higher online is that the website is assuming you're placing an order for pickup, which means staff have to assemble, bag, and deliver your order to you. I honestly like that it's a little higher, because I usually spend a decent amount less once I am in store and can snag a few extra items with the savings sometimes!
Yep, shows instacart pricing.
Yes, last time I got online shopping was because my dog had been very ill and just come home from the emergency clinic and I didn’t want to leave him. And the person who delivered my food, put the receipt in the bag and it was so much cheaper than what I had to pay. I don’t mean just the services fee or the delivery fee either. On the breakdown it said that the base amount for the groceries was $100 but the receipt said $90 and when I contacted customer service they said it was because the store charges more for them if you buy them online
@@ferroigneque shoppers are told to not give it to the customer
I have found that adding a bit of instant coffee or even leftover cooked coffee to my chili/beans adds a depth of flavor. A bit of chocolate and/cinnamon enhances the flavor too.
I have been experimenting with more flavors because of you. 😋
more great ideas 👍 I was thinking that I could have done a finer grate on my carrots so that they would have blended into the cake better.
I use cinnamon in my chili too, it adds a lot of depth to it. Haven't thought about coffee, I make chili quite a bit during fall and winter, I'll add a little coffee next time.
A little bit of cumin also enhances chilli. I use the cinnamon trick too!
Lately I've been adding a bit of the powdered dark baking cocoa to my canned chili, that and this lovely Korean Got Chu hot sauce and what an improvement it is, yum!
If you like those flavors, Google "Cincinnati chili". I think you would like it.
You are so inspiring. I am amazed at what you do with $5. When you were frying the pasta, it made me think of a spaghetti pie I have made a lot. Mix some egg (and Parm cheese if you have it) with the cooked pasta as the bottom layer, then onion/sour cream ( or plain yogurt) as 2nd layer, then protein + sauce (and cheese) on top, and bake about 30 min. I make it meatless most of the time. In this scenario, could just do the two simple layers and skip the dairy. I am definitely trying some of your ideas!
I've made that too, except without the sour cream or yogurt. Will have to try that!😁
and thanks so much 🥰
I love your videos! I recently became a single mom. Your videos have helped us out more than you know. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😁 Glad my videos are helpful!
I periodically calculate these low-cost challenges with my shopping at Safeway online. I am disabled so I do all my shopping online. This time I matched all items for a total of $16.21 including all my discounts. I was able to add a little excitement with this one because I could get seasoned versions for the same price -- a little more flavor without buying expensive seasonings. I love watching these challenges -- so creative with so little, and I'm sure tasty.
are you in Canada?
That is still a good price considering pricing differences in different areas
Always cool to see how you make so much variety from so little. I bet nutritional yeast would have added some cheesy flavor to the chili mac to help it out
agreed....I didn't want to use it, because it wasn't in the budget but I think it would have been great.
You are by far my fav new cooking channel! Im a low income senior and your ideas really help, thank you!
Me too. In Orange County where prices are so high.
I'm so glad! 😁
Cheese cake factory?
So much variety with just a few ingredients! Thanks for the tip about drying out the black beans: can't wait to try those out! I always have carrots in the fridge, so those muffins are on my to-make list. And the fried pasta: who would have thought? Gonna try that too. Great ideas!
Thank you 😁 I think I should have done a smaller grate on the carrots to make it blend into the muffins more. I do hope you try the fried garlic pasta. 😁
Peanut butter and banana mixed together would also be good in those bread burritos! Yum!!! Going to try this. I love egg quiches too!
Great idea!!
A great video. Recipes and meals creative. Never boring food with you!!!!!! You can have a lot for so little.
Thanks so much! 😊
My parents were 18 and 21 when they got married and had little money to feed us kids. We grew up on a lot of cold macaroni salad with hard boiled eggs, tuna, and celery. We live a blessed life but we always rotate in cold pasta salads for lunches since my family are volume eaters and they stretch. I saw your ingredients of pasta and eggs and thought of that meal right away ❤
great idea 👍
I love your channel. But your voice is so soothing I could listen to you all day. Look forward to more videos.

Thank you so much Charlotte 😁 I appreciate your support 💜
Carrot muffins (3 reg)
1/2c shredded carrots
1/2c flour
1/4c brown sugar
1/8tsp baking soda
1/8tsp baking powder
1/8tsp cinnamon
1/8tsp salt
1egg
1tsp(?) oil
Thanks! I will make those!❤
I just copied and pasted this to the video description. Thanks for this. 😁
i know this may sound a bit strange, but my husband and I eat carrot dogs and you had all the ingredients to make those too. A small amount of chili, the bread for the bun and then the carrots. I can't believe everything that you made with the ingredients that you had. I think I will have to try the black bean burgers. Thanks for another inspiring video. See you next time.
Are you boiling your carrots until soft or eating them raw?
I steam the carrots. It is our version of a hot dog and we eat them as such, sometimes with mustard and ketchup, sometimes with chili, and then sometimes we add relish or sauerkraut. @@ArdentMichelle
@@NoOneUKnow-c3y ok got it 👍 gonna try this
I thought carrot dogs was the strangest thing I had ever heard 😂 But since I use a lot of roasted carrots anyway, I made one. A little bit of honey mustard and finely chopped onion later, and I am a fan 👍
I had to comment because you made me giggle pointing out the egg not scrambling with whisk for a long time.
I truly enjoyed this video and gave me ideas too. Thank you. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!😁
I like carrot salad with raisens, pineapple, black pepper, salt, and a little mayo. Yum!
I've had it with whipped topping but not with mayo. Bet that's good 👍
Great ideas that I am definitely going to try. Thanks for sharing your creative ideas.
Glad you like them! 😁
Some Mexican grocery stores sell rice and beans loose per pound. Winco sells spices cheap. They sell a lot unpackaged you can buy per pound
yes, I've done some challenges at those stores. Excellent prices on beans and other items like dried peppers.
Those white breads and pasta are made w enriched flour so really have a lot of food value. I recall someone I knew years ago, used to add some bread to chili beans as a thickener,; after cooked, could not tell there was bread in there but the chili was thicker.I like the therapeutic part of the food too :) You have enough food left nearly for another two days. Amazing!
Good point about the bread 👍
I use the crushed up crumbs from our corn chip bags to thicken chili. Works great and reduces waste.
I'm always amazed at the different meals you get from the same couple items that make it seem like you're not eating the same thing every day. Portions seem to be small but hey, something's better than nothing. Never know when we might be in that situation someday.
Or may just want to diet!
Weighed 110 lb most of my life
yeah...I'm kind of a small breakfast eater, but the lunches and dinners were quite filling.
We long gave up in our home trying to pronounce Worcestershire sauce. Now we call it, “whose your sister sauce.” 😂
Love this 😂
Funny
I grew up not too far from Worcester. I moved to the US when I was 22 in the 90’s. I always tell my friends it’s Wuh-stuh-shuh 🤭
Its pronounced “ wustersher”
There’s a UA-camr who just calls it “Worst Word in the World sauce” 🤭
You are so creative with your budget meals! If it were me, I probably would just fry up an egg and make a piece of toast and call it good, lol.
Thank you 😁 I like to push myself to try new things in these videos. I've discovered a lot of really great meals this way.
Wustersheer. Some nice ideas for food on a budget. Thank you for sharing 🍲👍🇬🇧
Another wonderful video from my CA friend!! You’re awesome, Michelle! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your sons! 🦃
You're the one that's awesome Esther 💜 Thank you so much for supporting me. I'm grateful. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours also 😁
Thank you! We will save so much making the black mean burgers ourselves. You made it look so easy! Thanks again!
Glad you like this. 😁 I will save lots too. I'm planning to make a big batch of these for the freezer
Amazing ideas! I want to try those black bean burgers and the fried elbow noodles!!
Thank you...Enjoy! 😁
I find it unbelievable how you managed to make all those original meals on that 5.00 budget. I was waiting for the chipotle in the black burger. Yum! You’re an inspiration!
Thank you so much 😁
It's great to know that for less than a hamburger and a soda, because you can't even buy fries for less than $6.00, you can eat for 4 days (I'm counting all the leftovers also). Thank you for the great video!
I've been a vegetarian for 20+ years and have cookbooks dedicated to veggie burgers. All that said, it's never been suggested to dry the beans out first, but it seems like such a good idea because I hate mushy burgers! For thicker veggie burgers, it does help to pan fry them and then bake them for 15 minutes or so to prevent mush.
Well Kenji Lopez is brilliant so I have to give him the credit. 😂 Just got his new cookbook The Food Lab, which was a James Beard Book Award Winner. He's got lots of great ideas!
I never thought of pan frying cooked pasta before. Now you have me intrigued. Especially with the chili crisp. Thank you for sharing!
oh Christine you must try this 😁
Hello, AM. I love how you cook "out of the box;" that is, you make recipes most people would never think of. Another great video! ~ Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂
Thanks Linda 😁 Hope you are enjoying the holiday season. Have a great week 😁
Impressive 👏🏽 great job!!! I add scallions n everything but the bagel seasoning to outside of bread for blk bean burgers. Your food looked very tasty n pretty❤ ❤❤
You have such a gift for elevating such mundane ingredients into a real gourmet treat~!
Thank you so much 😀
This was a really great video! Very creative!
I season and saute plain leftover pasta pretty much the same way you do at the end - but then I pour over a couple of beaten eggs to make it into a frittata type dish. It is especially good with scrappy veggies/meats added-in and topped with a little melted, shredded Parmesan cheese.
These are really good ideas!
I was actually thinking about a frittata, which I think would have been the best use of ingredients and nutrition, but I do a lot of them so I decided not to. Love the idea of adding in Parmesan.
I have been making frittatas since watching your videos. I freeze left over meat & veggies on individual bags & add eggs, cheese & some fresh veggies when I make a frittata!!
Nice 👍
You have a lovely voice to listen to during the narration. And explain things clearly. Thank you.😊😊😊
thanks so much for saying that 😁
Great and creative recipes.
Glad you think so! 😁
You are a total genius! Even though I've been subscribed for some time, you never fail to delight and amaze me!
Thank you! 😊
I really enjoy your videos. It's amazing what you can do with less money than many spend on one morning's coffee. And I can't wait to try that fried garlic pasta.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 😁
My favorite budget meal queen.. thanks again for posting !!!
Thank you so much 🥰
Maple syrup on top of the banana "burritoes". Yummy 😊
Your fried macaroni came to mind a couple of weeks ago when I was boiling the pasta for a macaroni salad, and I let it overcook. In days gone by, I would've just thrown it in the compost because I can't stand it overcooked. However, because of this video, I decided to try it fried. I did add a little bit of chopped onion to the garlic, then when it was almost crisp, grated some parmesan on it. Final touch was a squeeze of lemon juice. It was so good I'm going to make it again (hopefully without overcooking the pasta next time.)
Oh your version sounds amazing with the onion! I was shocked at how tasty my version was!
I meant to say, thank you for your direct uncomplicated carrot cake recipe, I usually have a great deal of difficulty with any results, however I tried this, double and then adding a tiny portion of sun raisins from an Aldi box, baking in a glass dish available while staying with family (grr) and it was wonderful!
Yay! 🥳 I'm glad you liked this and you are so welcome!
Thanks so much for the great video. Very good recipes despite the lack of ingredients. I cook a lot out of WWII rationing cookbooks. Delicious food with minimal ingredients and minimal cost.
Welcome
AM: I just adore this channel. Being a cook already, I love others' ideas! You always put your "soul" into these meals...I mean, there are those moments of course, but for the most part, it is such a great skill to have to cook food for pennies! Great job, here! And, thoroughly enjoyed this video! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
Thanks Dawn 🥰
I have purchased that elbow pasta and it came out mushy but thought it was something that I did. I have another bag of it but now I know what to do to fix it.
Great ideas! Can't wait to try them.
I hope you try the fried pasta too. It was so chewy and garlicky. I loved it.
For the pasta packs make Mexican sopa. Brown the pasta, add water, a little tomato sauce, chicken bouillon, optional dash of cumin. Cover and simmer on very low for 15 min. You can add beans, left over chicken, left over taco meat, veggies like carrots and potatoes.
I've made sopa de fideo on my channel before. So good 👍
planning to make it again at the next chance I get.
great recipe ideas. i am needing some extreme budget ideas and i'm going to be making these. i think the fried macaroni would make a good pizza base. i have some pasta and some butternut squash that i think i'll make a sauce with and then add some veggies to the top.
great idea 👍
My compliments on how you were able to eat a lot and tasty food for little. I have to make do with a small budget as a single mom and the bean burgers are also a favorite here. I often add crumbled salted pretzels. That also makes the burger very tasty. Thanks for sharing.
Oh I like that idea of adding crumbled salted pretzels. 👍 and you're welcome. Glad you like this video!
You probably already know this and I know it would use a fair amount of oil, so might not be in the spirit of the challenge, but you can make mayo from the black bean gloop in the same way as you use chick pea juice. Its a bit lavender coloured (and pinto bean gloop makes shell pink mayo) but all legume gloop works.I freeze it if I dont need it straight away. Saves an egg for something else and cheaper than buying a jar!
Great idea 👍
what is legume gloop
@lincdog2269 the thick, gooey liquid you get in a can of beans, or when you cook them yourself. It acts as a replacement for the egg you would normally use yo make mayo
aquafaba, or 'the bean goop/chkic pea juice' is under study as it may be causing serious gut issues, IBS and gut bleeding, under frequent use.

Macaroni pie is an italian must👍yes add cut up mozzarella provelone salami ham 3 eggs into cooked pasta blend it fry it up on one side then flip or put in oven
yum! 😋
Hi Michelle. I love your videos so much. I watch them again and again like therapy. Ive just made your sundried tomatoes and theyre in the fridge right now.
Unfortunately i can barely watch any of the other budget cooking youtube channels. I try to but then i get super annoyed because they're not you and i end up switching off!
awe...💜 thanks for putting a big smile on my face this morning! I'm grateful for your support and glad you're enjoying my channel.
Interesting recipes! Never succeeded in making a good bean burger. Drying the beans out first is so clever! Will try that. And the breakfast looked delicious. I've would have made a frittata on the last one, just fry the pasta like you did and 2 beaten eggs. Yum! I sometimes use carrots on salad like you did, it's really good! Just peel a few steokes with a potato peeler.
I thought about frittata but I make that one so frequently. Probably would have been the best nutrition wise, because it would have been adding more protein in.
Wouldn't have been in the budget for this challenge, but I have used silken tofu as a binder for bean or lentil burgers before and it works very well.
You can add oat meal to tbe black bean mixture as a filler! I use it in meatloaf
good point 👍
So trying that crispy macaroni! You never cease to amaze me with your creativity. The only place where we go differently is with the Roma tomatoes 🍅 they would’ve stayed at the store if I was shopping. Sorry, I’ve been MIA for a couple of weeks (work got a little bonkers). With Thanksgiving coming up this week I just wanted to wish everybody in our AM family a wonderful holiday. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much....and it's nice to see you again. 💜 Happy Thanksgiving.
have you tried a mini low country boil? 1 serving may be 1 boiled egg, 2 egg sized red potatoes and maybe 5 or 6 pieces of medium sized shrimp. season with butter and garlic and any other seasonings you like. I moved from Florida to Ohio and miss going to the seafood shops and ordering a to-go shrimp platter so I started making my own.
I don't eat shrimp but would love to include it somehow on my channel. Thanks for sharing this!
The fried pasta sounds interesting. Especially with garlic chili 🌶️ sauce. I will try some. I have some frozen pasta in the freezer. It might help!
It was so good! 😋
Awesome! I made the black bean burgers for dinner. I added some crushed hickory nuts and feta. I will never buy frozen veggie burgers again. I am making the banana stuffed bread tomorrow. So glad you tried the seared pasta. It makes for an interesting pasta salad too with olives and parmesan. Good work and presentation as always. I look forward to your video each week. And.. the carrot muffin was brilliant.
Hi Sara 😁 were you the one that told me about the fried pasta? If so, thank you thank you thank you. OMG it was so good! 😋
Oh I bet the feta and nuts were so good in the black bean burgers. I wanted so much to add in some cheese but I knew I had to stay true to the challenge. I bet that was fabulous! Thanks for letting me know!
I am so trying the black bean burgers, now that you showed me how to dry them out first. I have made a lot of your ideas. All of them work for me and my hubby. I want to thank you. Be well.
Yay! 🥳 So glad you are enjoying my channel!
I have tossed pasta with oil and garlic since I was a kid and never thought of frying it. I think maybe a little Parmesan added would be great too.
oh yes.....that would be very good 👍😋
I love how you handle food. You can take the humblest of ingredients and make them so lovely!

Really great idea’s. You are so creative. 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
I think cabbage is a great deal. Very filling. There are so many options with it as well.

Michelle, as usual, you blew this challenge out of the water! I love how you can envision so many ideas with such few ingredients. That banana stuffed toast looked delish! I'd add some powdered sugar and a little syrup. Yummy. I'm drooling. Lol. And very interesting dish with the fried garlicky noodles. I'm going to try that one. And your videos are so soothing to me...especially after the day I had. I'm so happy every time I sed you've uploaded a new one! Thank you for these vids. They help so many people! I hope you have a Happy Turkey Day!
Hello 😁 so glad you like this video. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
As always, you make eating on a budget look delicious . 😀
I think the theme of this video is dried out starches make delicious interesting meals.
Thank you 😁 and yes, that's so true 😂
I've never thought of frying noodles or drying beans before incorporating them into a vegetarian burger recipe. This was so helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome 😁
Growing up...my father's favorite go-to recipe that he would suggest when his mother asked him what she should make...."ma...just fry up the left over pasta" Back story....we're Italian/Ozone Pk NY!.......he grew up in the 30's during the depression and his mother (my nana) would slice up onion and fry up the left over pasta (no sauce)....and there is nothing better than getting a bite of the golden crispy areas plus the sweet carmelized onions....he luv"d it with a little ketchup (he was a kid!) but whip up a couple of eggs for a frittata (best way to clean up any left overs!) Options are endless....Love your videos!
Oh I loved reading this. 😁 I had no idea how good fried pasta is. I've made frittata but it never turned out as good as this one. I'm definitely going to be making this again. I bet the onions are so good with it. I'll definitely try this. Thanks so much for sharing! 🥰

You are so inspiring! Do your kids appreciate that? Holiday videos please!!
Thank you 😁 and yes, I think they do.
This was an extra-interesting video because of the timing - we're all getting ready for Feast Day, and many of us are spending more at the store than typical. It's good to save as much as we can at the stores prior to the holiday extras, plus it helps keep the food intake under control by default, so a double win, Thanks for the inspo!

Second comment sorry Michelle…..Chili crisp is life.I’ve got about 4 different Lao Gan Ma jars in my fridge. Def try the black bean and the chili with peanuts too along with the Chili crisp and her broad bean sauce . She is an actual Chinese grandmother who is now a billionaire thanks to these sauces❤ They make anything boring taste good
You could always mix black beans with any type of ground meat along tacos or nachos
true 👍
I made very similar veggie burgers today and they turned out amazing. I’m definitely going to do this in a larger batch and freeze. I had a dried chipotle that I cooked the beans in and it added so much flavor!! Thanks for the idea!
Amazing and I loved your humor. Black bean burgers ❤. Definitely going to dry the beans out. Thanks again 🎉
Welcome 😁
All the stores prices online are more than if you go in the store and get it yourself. They are just a few cents higher but it helps compensate for the people they have shopping for you.
This was a great video! ❤ thanks so much Michelle! I am going to try that last pasta dish! I absolutely love chili crisp too so I think it will be delicious! ❤
