    I have not been cutting any trees for about a year due to winter and medical problems, but this weekend I got back into tree cutting, clearing up after a heavy snow and high winds. I notice I have a changed attitude to the way I handle my chainsaw, the way I cut the trees and have a greater respect for what I am working, all thanks to watching your videos. I now enjoy working with the chainsaw, whereas it used to be a 'burden' that just had to be done.

    Looks like it's finally getting close to spring for you🙏 Amen. My Dad has always told me, 3 seasons out off the year are great weather, then we must suffer through winter to appreciate the rest😅😂 stay safe out there Bjarne.

      No one talks about it, we just go about work as normal 🤷‍♂️. I don’t film other guys at work without permission, that’s kinda why you don’t see much about other parts of the logging operations. My website doesn’t make much, neither does YT ads, so falling is still what pays the bills. So I can’t jeopardize my job by intrusively filming everything.

    Could you discuss the process for an area getting logged? I'm assuming this is national forest land, how do logging companies get approval to log areas and how does forestry service decide where to log and mark out areas? What steps happen before you get to cut, and who all goes in after the trees are dropped for getting lumber, and replanting?

    • @BjarneButler
      @BjarneButler  Місяць тому

      I cut on government and private lands. I don’t know anything about the permitting processes or how they choose when to log a certain area. I’m just a dumb logger that goes where I’m told to cut 🤷‍♂️. Every area we cut does get replanted though. The First Nations are taking over a lot of logging here on the coast so we are cutting a lot for them now.

      From my understanding that could be dated a bit the crown or government in Canada owns the wood, allots it to the mills at a price, the mills have their loggers, loggers have employees. Some kind of environmental study is done as well as a cruise to determine total board feet, or cubed feet. This allotment is the sticking point in the NAFTA agreement because the wood is not sold on an open market and if Canada needs to be more competitive to sell their lumber they drop the price to the mill. Unfortunately the USA is the largest importer of lumber, instead of cutting their own.

      I run a 572 & 592. I use a 3/8 .063 skip tooth, round file chain. A thicker wedge is fine it just takes more work wedging to lift the tree. I don’t mix gas that’s the trainee/rookie’s job. But it’s 50:1. Don’t know the octane rating. I like my chain tension: snug, especially with lots of brush
