Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, and therefore most blacks became Republicans after the Civil War. But the White Democrat southerners started basically what we would today call Terrorist Groups like the Klan, keeping blacks from voting. But what I do know is that some people look up to celebrities no matter how horrible they are, and their endorsement carries weight because it gets their fan base to take notice when maybe they otherwise wouldn't.
