I feel it's more rewarding when you use artificial baits, knowing you outsmarted a fish with something fake. That and 1 vudu is cheaper than a dozen live shrimp, lol.
@Southern Salt btw my pb sheepshead was when I was like 8-9 years old. I was down on Mullet Point and were like 8-10 houses down from our place and I was just walking peoples bulkheads with a cane pole. I was fishing dead shrimp on a J hook. I saw my cork go under but stay about 1" below the water. So probably on 2ft of water. The fish somehow wrapped itself up in the line and I ended up pulling it up backwards. It was a 24" sheepshead. I knew there were fish there because I'd always catch redfish, croaker, and mullet there and always got my net stuck on an oyster bed. The next morning I woke up early and started heading that way and there were 3-4 people fishing that spot in lawn chairs. Still one of my best memories. I never enjoyed the taste of fish as a kid but I made sure to eat some of that fish. I knew it was a trophy.
My brother won the sheepshead category 3 times in the adsfr at the old ammunition dump pier using a 50# handlline, climbing around in the structure ...he was using seawall roaches... that was in the 80's
Awesome video as I am a kayak fisherman here in NC and fiddler crabs are hard to come by where I fish, so shrimp may be a good alternative. Also, big thanks for sharing where you fish. Wish I lived closer. LOL.
Ive found that out of most artificials it's hard to be the Vudu and the DOA shrimp. There's a new company called Marker 54 with a Jerk Shrimp and it has been equally deadly.
11 lbs 13oz. 27.3" caught him on the tiny tail section of shrimp. We were fishing around docks for pinfish to go grouper fishing. I hooked into him when I was 12 and my dad thought I had a stingray. Wanted to cut the line. Got him up near the top after 5 minutes and my dad finally netted him. Massive fish. I held the state record for under 15 for sheepshead and speckled trout. 26" 12 lbs 6oz. Caught that a TT24 Mirr-O-Lure that I rigged with a tiny piece of shrimp tail on the back hooks. Fishing for redfish near mangroves. Now those records don't exist anymore.
Boom! Love the video brother!!! That’s one hell of a spot!!! That is so cool that you caught em on the Vudu!!! My PB is 23 1/2 caught at the other end of where you are at on a fiddler crab!!! I’ve seen bigger ones there tho! Great content as always Nate!!
Man!, I thought I was fighting that big sheepshead 4:25 (1st landed)! I was leaning on couch when you were fighting between piling. I thought it was going to break off. 😂
Love the videos, never thought to use worms b4. Always used fiddler crabs. Coming down from WI to the Gulf in mid March. Can't wait to try the Vudu and worms.
I might take that into consideration. The only reason I wouldn’t is that it would be very difficult from an editing standpoint and it would be hard for me to tell the story through the video because I’m condensing a 4-6 hour trip most of the time down to a 12-15 minute video. So if I keep swapping the baits back and forth it would be difficult to explain it every time I swap. I hope that makes sense lol
2:10 lol you had me laughing out loud on that one! Saltwater fishing has always intimidated me for some reason...of course i'm more of a fly fisherman, I cant seem to keep a spinning reel from getting tangled to hell every 10 casts or so
Lol right on! Yeah spinning gear has a tendency to get a ton of wind knots. There’s a few things you can do to help reduce it but no way to completely eliminate it lol
To compensate for changing conditions or hitting all the good spots with one bait; I think it would be much better to change baits back and forth often.
How far north u come to fish for these fish there here in south jersey but everybody is closed mouth a friend last year landed one around our capemay jetty
I just spent my Saturday on Escambia bay along I-10 and the train bridge on my Hammerhead Whale shark. The kayak you convinced me to buy after your video. Anyways I tried all of your tricks from crickets, earthworms, shrimp, sandfleas, and fiddler crabs. All I managed to do was catch pin fish and finger sized crockers. So I'm thinking after watching big boats fishing the same area and never catching any that fishery is dead to sheephead. Do you have any ideas?
Best to firmly lift the rod when have solid bite rather than jerk the rod to set the hook on sheep head. They have unusual hard mouth and jerk more likely to pull hook out of mouth rather than set the hook.
I respect your opinion but I couldn’t disagree more. You’re right they have an extremely bone and hard mouth which to me is why it’s super important to get a solid hook set to drive the hook beneath the skin.
14.6 lbs on small piece of peeled shrimp. I checked a few years later and saw I would’ve had the AL state record at the time but I hadnt even though to turn him in. He made great fish tacos though!
What's the smallest and biggest you'd recommend for keeping, and eating? Min length in my state is 15" but their so boney I don't think it'd be worth it.
I’m struggling catching them. Lost two dozen shrimp my first attemp last weekend at bob sykes pier at Pensacola beach. Never felt a bite. Just kept losing my bait everything time I would drop down.
@@southernsalt ok. I’ll get it. I’m a country boy used to bass fishing. I’ve been in Florida for almost two months, went out 7 or 8 times, ain’t caught anything yet. It’s hard cause I’m a bank fisherman. Gonna try a drop shot this weekend and maybe I’ll feel the bite a little better. They were eating my shrimps out of the shells lol and I’d never feel it 🤷🏻♂️
@@cartersboxerandbulldogbabies trick is to keep tension on the line and use a lighter gage hook something thin that can sink between those teeth and don't wait too long they steal your shrimp in a second.
Love to watch you catch those things , Flat fish,,, Wow, one thing tho, i wish you would get a little more Excited when you catch one ? Believe it are not ,i ran out of bait and had a can of yellow corn and cought more fish with that than i did with shrimp , Yep, OK love to watch you rip and dip ? See Ya

I recently won 1st place with LA CCA star with a 23 inch sheephead. Used half a cut crab! Awesome video
Nice, congrats man that’s a solid fish!

😯 that’s crazy lol. I see those all the time, I’ll have to try em.
Great video! Love the channel. We've only caught smaller sheepshead but we are new into this. We love the vodoo shrimps so I would prefer to use them!

Big sheep heads buddy 👍👍👍..I think both work good.
Thanks brother, I was impressed with the Vudu
Sick video nice sheepshead buddy, seems the biggest negative to the vudu shrimp is the weight location helps the fish throw the hook
That may be true especially with sheepshead

I wanna see sheepshead on a artificial worm. That would be a great video.
I’ll give it a try lol

🙌 good luck while you’re down here!
Great video, I love the energy fam🤘🏾🤘🏾

When you do the challenges. You should do five cast with The Live shrimp and then at five time with the voodoo shrimp to make it fair.

What boat ramp do you use over there? Love your channel!
Caught a 22 inch last month on a fresh dead shrimp tail

Do these get worms like the black drum get...When they get big like this?
I’ve never seen them with worms but I’m sure they get them.
I want to do a big sheep head fishing day I’ve never caught one

Try fishing bridges a little closer to the gulf. That bridge should have them but you can also try 3 mile
I’ve caught some nice drum off that pier
I think I saw someone hooked up on one when I was heading out.

The bag limits is 10 from 15 inches up.
That would all depend on what state you’re fishing in.

How are the pinfish not destroying your shrimp?
🤷♂️
19” on vudue shrimp
Nice!!
21 in, on mud crabs
Nice!!
It must be hard to switch baits when they are biting like that.
Lol you bet it is 😂
What depth are you catch sheepshead?
Here lately it’s been 8-12 feet
My vote is Vudu Shrimp !
🙌

I mean it’s all subjective but I would say 17-20 is a good size to keep but that’s just my opinion.
He cought it on a piece of green crab
What was the water temperature?
Around 60
I’m struggling catching them. Lost two dozen shrimp my first attemp last weekend at bob sykes pier at Pensacola beach. Never felt a bite. Just kept losing my bait everything time I would drop down.
Do you feel the bite? I don’t see your rod tapping down at all until you set the hook
Yeah you can definitely feel it when they bite. It’s very subtle but you would feel it. It’s more like a light tug than a thump.

Did you hook the Voodo Shrimp the same way you did the live shrimp?
No I set them up differently. I put the Vudu on 10 pound test with a loop knot. I rigged the live shrimp to an octopus hook on 20 pound test.
Why different set ups?
