This is also very helpful on why I shouldn't over use a limiter!!
This is a fire deep dive
Bro I was literally looking for a video on dubstep drums yesterday, this is a life saver
Hope it helped 🤝
Thanks for watching!
I like dynamics too much for this style of dubstep. Great tips on keeping kick and sub in phase most people miss that.
Nothing wrong with enjoying what YOU like 🙏 appreciate the kind words!
Your channel deserves more. Cheers to your growth and journey, my man.
Appreciate the kind words! Liking and commenting on the video like this help me grow 🙏
Great video dude, super happy to see you at it Whey
Thank you dude! Appreciate it 🙏
Super informative tutorial!! Thanks
Another good one
I would recommend max -7 LUFs. Streaming platforms will cut off at -13 to -14 regardless
I wouldn’t recommend that. Yes streaming platforms will just gain down your track. But if you are mastering to -7lufs your track is going to be considerably less loud than all other music being played out in a live setting that is -3 to -1 LUFS.
If your not planning on playing it live or have it try and compete on SC then you can do that. But there’s no bad side of having a bad mastered that’s just turned down on streaming platforms imo
God I love it! ❤
Great info bro
Okay so I got one question I use the glue compressor soft clip on my master, should I be soft clipping the drums on the drum bus or all together on the master bus? Or both?
Soft clip every step of the way IMO. At your drum group and master. Makes each softclipper do less work
Incredible. I probably shouldn’t squarify my kick chain I guess right ? I just need them both correlated, u know? Could use some advice
So, I don’t make this type of dubstep, I kinda make a medium between dark midtempo and riddim, listen to deathpact and REZZ n you’ll know what I mean, but for some reason my drums never cut through the mix, but I don’t need my drums to be smacking like they would in tearout, is there any solution to this?
are you sidechaining? and even in midtempo your drums will be the loudest element in your mix in the drop. any bass genre will have drums hitting 0.
could also be the drum samples you are using might not be up to industry standard? if you have splice you can get tons of drums from there.
Also I fade out my side chain like an S and I just rinse according to each tracks needs. I wonder like what is the best way to side chain the transient and the body of the drums and also how much should I be pre-side chaining?
Saw subtronics use a compressor for sidechaining, taking a very small clip of kick transient and putting it on a separate track mirroring the kick pattern (and snare pattern if you wanna side chain it as well) and then taking the thresh all the way down and then you have your ratio, attack, and release knobs to shape your side chain, Been using this method ever since, might not be the ultimate way, but it’s an option 👍🏼
I wouldn't worry about pre-sidechaining unless you are having a clicking issue with your side chain. then depending on what you are using. utility is a great way to avoid the clicking if that is occurring as well
I personally dislike this method because I just never get a side chain I like. BUT I know plenty of people that do this and have great results so not saying its not viable@@Subfrequency
