Stevie was an absolute monster and I remember thinking how tough it was going to be to follow him. But then Jeff came out and I was absolutely staggered. The Miles Davis of guitar. He was constantly adapting to new musical ideas and surrounded himself with great players who elevated his own performances. That’s just a surface resemblance. He also played in a way where one note and you know it’s him. He played with space, dynamics, melodies, and took huge harmonic chances. I think no one came as close as Jeff to the nuances of the human voice, as his performances of Nessun Dorma and Over the Rainbow demonstrated. He always looked for the next road, not being satisfied with only one road to travel where he’d always see the same territory. He was 1 of 1.

My Beck vinyl is now half a century old and with every new posted performance of his last tour, he affected me as intensely as those first spins. Essentially he was there through my entire lifetime of paying attention to music and talent. And in Beck's case, grace and generosity, as well. These perspectives help to move me from a tragic sense of loss, including for the friends now gone who I shared that appreciation with, to cherishing how lucky I and all of us are, to have lived when we could have his genius available anytime to and preserved for future generations.🙏
He really was his own thing, Just too unique to categorize, and me being an older guitarist, he was one my overlords growing up , I’m really sad about his passing , and to me he appeared to be fittest and healthiest rocker ,of his generation , his sudden death certainly seems unusual , just the outpouring of statements from so many performers speaks of his importance and influence , Thank you Rhett for this video , We won’t be seeing anyone like him again RIP JB 🙏
If you watched his activity over the past year you could see his slow down fall, with his health being compromised, many possibilities, i will refrain to mention anyone in particular who may have been part of his demise, but you can probably guess. 🤔
I'll just point out his album with Johnny Depp is amazing. The solo on Isolation, the way he mimics sax and vocals lines on Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson covers is beyond beyond. And to think he recorded this in his late 70's blows my mind. He was constantly innovating and improving is skills, tone, and how can he sound like a slide player with no slide. It is insanely incredible what he does with a guitar.
I had the honor of seeing Jeff Beck at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL just under a mile from Chicago, IL in 2007… It was for us a very hot long day but enjoyed almost every act that performed that day… RIP Mr. Beck Your Music and Memories Will Live Forever!!!
My Dad and I were able to see him just a few years ago as well. It was indeed special to be able to see his performance and share the moment. The albums were terrific, but, Jeff Beck live... Just wow! WOW!
I was lucky enough to be there in 2007 at this version of crossroads. It's hard to really describe the command he had over the whole venue when he came out. Towards the end of Tal's solo you can see up into the crowd and notice a lot of people in standing room only trying to get a better view. The whole place literally just stopped and paid attention. He was a legend!
I remember we saw him with Johnny Lang opening, a young couple was sitting next to us and got up to leave after Lang's set. We said "what are you doing!" They're like "we don't know who this guy is" - we convinced them to stay, witness the Greatness, the pioneer, the GOAT and they did. After, they thanked us and were like WOW we had no idea!
I saw Jeff on May 13,1972. I just turned 76 so it was both chilling and sad. He was an inspiration for me to take a 'better to be failed artist than a successful artisan' so even know I have a new power trio to play my new music. He never stopped do a whole new project right up to the end. But, WTF , I'm not dead yet :-)
I'm 75; been listening to Jeff Beck for more than 50 years. The loss feels personal. I have played guitar since high school but have never attempted to try to sound like Beck - impossible. As many have said, he was 1 of 1.
Well done Rhett and Thank You for this story and Tribute.💙 Truly a sad time for us all, the guitar and music community and the world. Such a Great loss.😓 The Greatest of the Greatest.🙏 May God rest His soul.😓🙏😓 Another, gone too soon🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for suggesting that. What a great version of Cause We've Ended As Lovers! You're right, his guitar on Further On Up The Road kicks it up into another gear!
I was going to say the same. I kind of wished that Jeff, before he passed, would have put out a record of him on a Tele only. He was without peer on the Strat, but he also could be equally astonishing without the whammy bar
I always use the Ronnie Scott's version of that song with Tal when I write about him. Gives me chills. I'm going to miss this man so much--legend from my teenage years to now--and forever...
Dude you have some really cool amps there. I saw Beck play with Buddy Guy just like 5 years ago. He was amazing. It is true...Beck is the guitarist's guitarist. It seems only guitarists could understand and connect with Beck's genius and mastery of the instrument. Beck perfectly placed and phrased each and every note. He milked every ounce of feeling and subtlety from every note. There has never been anyone who can quite sound like him. His technique remains truly unique. Anyone can do whammy tricks but with Beck it was whammy bar, volume knob, tone knob, and a unique vibrato that only he could do. RIP Jeff Beck. His contribution to music, the guitar, and the world cannot be overstated.
If you look at his whammy bar, it is customized to his playing style. Shortened & bent just so, allowing his unique style & facilitating his technique.
Jeff has always blown me away . Listening to him inspired me as a guitar player and listener . Something would just happen through my soul . When I would see him in concert , I was in another world.... Been listening to him since the Yardbirds . There will never be another . ONE OF A KIND ! God Rest his Soul ! We Love and Miss Jeff !
I was fortunate to see Jeff with ZZ Top a few years back. I was very familiar with his Live at Ronnie Scott’s DVD. I was really excited to see him and did not disappoint. He also came out and played with ZZ Top which was phenomenal. R.I.P. Jeff and thank you for the gifts you gave to us!
Rhett, thanks for this video on my HERO, to whom it may matter, this is my Beck Experience, I was a 15 year old kid in Detroit, I went to see him after the Truth album came out, he had an unknown singer, named Rod Stewart, Jeff did not sing, that concert Blew Me Away, what a Night, the next time i saw him was in Albuquerque New Mexico, with Stevie Ray Vaughan, 6 months before SRV died, after they both played, they Both came onstage and Played 4 Yardbird songs together, What a Fuc,,n show, man, i left there that night in Total Guitar Heaven Man, I could not sleep that night, due to it, R.I.P to Jeff & SRV, they are in Guitar Heaven playing again , I am Crying at this time, Now, Cousin Figel
Jeff Beck was on that delicate line of artist, visionary and musical genius! Have had the privilege of seeing him live twice. Once back in Chicago at the crossroads fest and just last November here in Phoenix Arizona. Simply brilliant. No one will ever sound like him or play the way he did. He will be missed. He was one of the main reasons I ever picked up a guitar in the first place. Him, Clapton,EVH, Michael Schenker and Hendrix.
I’m reminded of an interview with Clapton during the rehearsals for the ARMS concert in 1983. Beck was playing, and Clapton stopped mid-sentence and said, “He really is the best guitarist in England.”
The first cat I heard that made me say, wow! I want to do that. Jeff kept evolving until he was untouchable as a player/stylist. At least Jeff went out at the top of his game and didn't deteriorate, no one had to say, yeah but you should've heard him 20 years ago. RIP Jeff and thanks for the inspiration,
Absolutely right on, with each recording released i thought he had peaked, then the next one had more interesting music, and he also had some humor thrown in there. Sensitive power with thrusting bursts of animal sounds. Jeff was was the quintessential evolving electric guitarist. ✅👍💚
Been a huge fan since my freshman year in college 1981. His sound touched my soul unlike anything else. Finally got to see him live in 1999 at La Zona Rosa in Austin. Show I’ll never forget as well as meeting a life long friend where today 2000 miles apart we mourn our guitar hero. His music is timeless. Rip JB, another legend has left the building.
Thanks, Rhett, for this tribute to Jeff. What an amazing guitarist of our time. For that matter, a great instrumentalist of all time & space. We soared with his sounds, & floated on the rhythmic waves, hanging on to each note. May he live on through his works.
Rhett, this is brilliantly done. Thank you for sharing! I've been a huge fan of what Jeff shared with all of us and I was fortunate to see him in concert as well. His unique guitar sound, approach and technique along with is incredible musical generosity and appreciation is displayed so well in this video clip and your analysis. Your personal reflection and Tyler's are greatly appreciated for the incisive insight and understanding only a guitarist like you can share. All the best to you!
I completely understand your comment around Jeff's live sound. You have to see him in person to experience the true power of his tone and mastery of the instrument. The first time I saw Jeff step on stage and hit those first few notes, clearly illustrated to me what the definition of guitar god was. I was fortunate enough to see him a few other times and every show was different, yet uniquely Jeff Beck. A guitar player's... favorite guitar player. He will truly be missed. RIP Jeff.
14yrs old & heart full of soul comes on the radio, I immediately count out my lawn mowing money & head to Lears music to buy me a Telecaster. Keep rockin them in heaven Jeff
I saw Jeff around 1972 or so in a college gym in Rochester, NY. Was a fan already then because of the Truth album. The two things that always stand out for me about Jeff, well, the first is obvious. There has never been and will never be another like him and the artistry he brought to his playing. But the other thing is the pure joy he always showed for other players. You can see in Tal's eyes, how it spread to the whole band. The pure exuberance they all played with is just a joy to watch and listen to. RIP to one of the greatest ever.
Forever grateful to have seen Jeff Beck LIVE myself. I was amazed by his performance in the Felt Forum in NYC in March 2001. One of a kind player, one of the all-time Greats. Sonically he was without peer. One-of-a-kind in that his brilliant voice kept evolving into his late 70's. I truly believe he was meant to leave this earth suddenly at the apex of his talents.
Jeff is the reason I play today. I still have his tone in my head from the concert with SRV before he died. Learning "Cause we've ended as Lovers opened my eyes.. what a legend. What a loss. There will never be another. I'm gutted.
I cried watching this. Jeff's been a huge part of my life through my dad who is Jeff's biggest fan and has followed him through his whole career since the 60's. I got to see Jeff live a handful of times with my dad with the highlight being the my first concert in 98 or 99 when he was working out what would be come the Who Else album songs. I'm glad you chose Cause We've Ended as Lovers in the video, it's my favorite song of Jeff's and it is his best in my opinion. He always plays it live and he always plays it slightly different. RIP Jeff.
Kudos for linking the Ronnie Scott's video wherein you can clearly see his magical prowess. I was so fortunate to have seen him on the Blow by Blow tour ( feat. Bernard Purdy ), and I will never ever forget it.
This was unexpected... made me so sad... Had the chance to watch him close in 1998 here in Rio. My personal idol... one of one. Will be missed for good... RIP
Tell us something we don't know. . . . . . The more archaic and outlandish the artists are. The more they become idols. . . . Strangeness isn't royal. It's individuality. . He painted like no one else. . Great.
I brought my wife to see Jeff Beck early in our relationship and its still one of the best concerts I have ever been to. His raw talent was such a force it left me with goosebumps as I sat in sheer awe just taking it all in.
I can’t explain but I feel like I have lost a member of my own family. This just brought me to tears, but that’s a part of the grieving process. Thanks Rhett
There will be a huge void in the guitar world from now to eternity because no other guitarist can fill his enormous led boots. It truly breaks my heart as a fellow guitarist & just a human being to know that he is no longer on this planet anymore. He was one of just a handful of guitarist that captivated & influenced me like no other. Musicians like Jeff are few & far between. We should all feel very fortunate to have been able to witness a true artist & one of a kind soul.
Great homage to the master, Rhett. Thank you. It's easy to overlook the fact that Beck was a great collaborator and an alchemist of talent. He was better at blending the science and soul of music than any other. RIP.
I was lucky enough to see Jeff Beck at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 - surprise from my wife, didn’t know till I got there. Epic gig, epic player. His Live at Ronnie Scott’s gig is amazing to watch as well…. RIP

Thanks for the video - Jeff Beck is my favorite guitarist for his ability to move me in any form of music he chooses. I saw him here in Paris a few years ago, and it was by far the best of the many concerts I have seen - he has given us so much. Thanks, Jeff!!!
I saw Jeff back in 1980 on the There & Back tour at one of London’s most iconic venues. I was front row and was completely blown away by the whole gig and it still remains one of my top 3 gigs to this day. Later, I moved to a house which was literally just around the corner from where Jeff grew up. Wednesday night’s news rocked me to my core and I was upset all day yesterday, way more than I ever expected. I never met the man, but I felt a connection and he seemed so vibrant, even at 78, which is no mean age, that his passing caught me off guard. RIP Jeff.
I was born in 96 and thankfully got to see him in 2018 with ann wilson and paul rodgers opening up for him and when I say my mind was blown with the sounds he could get to come out of his guitar and the control he had. Truly one of a kind and a absolute legend Rest In Peace Jeff
Jeff Beck's contributions to the music world with his incredible guitar playing are unmatched. Always loved his unique style and fluid guitar playing. A true legend..... R.I.P. Nice tribute Rhett..
I had the pleasure of seeing Jeff Beck with Johnny Depp in concert last year. It was a once in a lifetime experience to witness two guitar virtuosos in concert.
I had unfortunately never really heard his music until a couple years ago. However, I did finally get myself a copy of Beck-Ola and it absolutely blew my mind! Just wildly amazing playing on that album. Requiescat in pace Jeff Beck.
I bought the Wired album back in like 1977 and it still blows my mind. It was definitely a turning point for Beck musically and it really set the stage for everything that came after.
Thanks for this Rhett. I've been playing guitar for just over 50 years and listening to Jeff for just as long. He's been an inspiration to me all along and I somehow thought he'd always be there to inspire the rest of us. His constant re-invention and shifting of the boundaries of what a guitar can do, his totally unique technique & tone, his endlessly creative phrases, each dripping with emotion . . . No one like him. It's seldom that the death of someone famous affects me on a personal level but his passing his left me deeply saddened, as if one my oldest lifelong friends is suddenly gone

These perspectives help to move me from a tragic sense of loss, including for the friends now gone who I shared that appreciation with, to cherishing how lucky I and all of us are, to have lived when we could have his genius available anytime to and preserved for future generations.🙏
Cooler and groovier than any of us will ever be. This really hit me pretty hard.
R.I.P Jeff. One of the greatest guitar player who make guitar sing.
I have seen so many of the worlds best, nobody topped Jeff. I saw him twice. Both nights are treasured.
Beck knew it was a moment to be remembered like so many of his performances unforgetable, unrepeatable .. and unbelievable ..rip to the goat
Jeff was 1 of 1 and will be sorely missed.
This is a sad day for the world. Rest in peace Jeff Beck. You will truly be missed.
I had the honor of seeing Jeff Beck at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL just under a mile from Chicago, IL in 2007…
It was for us a very hot long day but enjoyed almost every act that performed that day…
RIP
Mr. Beck
Your Music and Memories Will Live Forever!!!
Yes, i was there...
Vinnie back there too! What a band that was!
I too am glad to say I got to see him live. What at sound. Will never forget. There’s no one like him for sure! RIP Jeff!
Well done Rhett and Thank You for this story and Tribute.💙
Truly a sad time for us all, the guitar and music community and the world. Such a Great loss.😓
The Greatest of the Greatest.🙏
May God rest His soul.😓🙏😓
Another, gone too soon🙏🙏🙏
Jeff's playing at the Secret Policeman's Other Ball is a can't miss clip. He just leaves Clapton in the dust. One of the coolest moments ever.
Thanks for suggesting that. What a great version of Cause We've Ended As Lovers! You're right, his guitar on Further On Up The Road kicks it up into another gear!
He sounds like Eric but Eric also had to sing
I was going to say the same. I kind of wished that Jeff, before he passed, would have put out a record of him on a Tele only. He was without peer on the Strat, but he also could be equally astonishing without the whammy bar
I always use the Ronnie Scott's version of that song with Tal when I write about him. Gives me chills. I'm going to miss this man so much--legend from my teenage years to now--and forever...
Unique style, instantly recognizable, genius. RIP Jeff
Saw him several times over the years starting with his days of Beck, Bogart and Appice. Never been or will be a force of nature like him!
Wonderful, heartfelt tribute to a "one-of-a-kind" guitar master. May Jeff rest in eternal peace.
Cause We've Ended as Lovers was the second song i've learned on guitar back in the 70s.
Jeff was a such a great influence for me. Absolute unique…
I saw Jeff about 10 times, including his most recent tour and the 2007 Crossroads performance. Always amazing.
That video brought tears to my eyes, but not tears of sadness. I always tear up like this when I see his band with Tal.
I saw Jeff play with my Uncle. I was very happy to have shared this time with my uncle enjoying music from a Master!
RIP Jeff.
There's not enough of words to describe his guitar playing, truly inspiring, once again we will miss him.
Thanks, Rhett! A monster player. Unbelievable vocabulary and feel. RIP Jeff Beck...🙏
Thanks Rhett for this sincere video. It brings up tears with me . RIP Jeff
Thanks for putting this together. 😢
I'm not the only one who tears up seeing that clip & his hand-over to Tal then Rhett.. still tugs
What an absolute legend
Thank you for this video. I got to see him twice in Tulsa, Ok. and I won't forget them either. A true master of the guitar.
He's been my #1 for over 50 years. This is so crushing. 😢 So happy I got to witness his prowess in person several times starting in 1975.
RIP Jeff.
One of my all time favorites -- so sad. Much love, Jeff Beck. Hard to find amazing artists these days so humble, a pioneer, a ROCKER.
It's individuality. . He painted like no one else. . Great.

I am 63 . As long as I can remember , Jeff Beck was considered the Best of all . Rest well and in Peace , Mr Jeffrey Beck .
I am 67 and followed him since I was15, you are right my friend.
Thanks Rhett
i was childhood friends with steve morse. jeff beck was a guitar player steve admired back when we were in 7th grade.
RIP.
The most unique player of all time R.I.P.Jeff never another like you 🎸❤🙏🙏
" You can't sound like Jeff Beck " LOVE IT ! ! ! Thank you so much for this great video of dedication.
I was lucky enough to see Jeff Beck at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 - surprise from my wife, didn’t know till I got there. Epic gig, epic player. His Live at Ronnie Scott’s gig is amazing to watch as well…. RIP
a dude at a music shop in Australia asked me who my favourite guitarist is...i recall replying " i don't really have a single favourite..but Jeff Beck comes pretty close" and he..being a good guitarist himself..nodded approvingly....RIP Jeff..you really did inspire me..i had the priviledge of seeing you gig in Sydney Aus in09...when Wired came out in early 80s i was blown away
Still love listening to his Guitar shop cd, especially Where were you, it is so haunting and sad.
I've seen her play before with Jeff and she is absolutely killer on bass , its my understanding thats shes also a killer guitarist
Such a huge loss man! RIP LEGEND
I was given the same album as a 15 year old guitar neophyte in 1973. The effect was seismic
@@ObjectiveDynamics I'm 58 years old and never heard anything from him. Heard his name millions of times.
@@ronaldbaldus4761 😯
@@ronaldbaldus4761 Well, it'll be treats then.
Thanks for posting this tiny tribute. I love the tune you featured and I never heard this amazing bass player before this week. Wow! She is awesome! RIP Jeff ❤
Having grown up in that era its always sad for me to lose a player from my generation . Jeff Beck was one of those players that we discovered along the our way thru life . Truly a legend and one of the greats . This one hurts .
That clip from Crossroads is a wonderful example of Jeff Becks brilliance.
I watched the same performance of this song, live at Ronnie Scotts, this afternoon After I heard about his passing, I shed a tear I thought to myself probably the best performance on guitar with an amazing backing band,
Now this amazing video!!!
I encourage everyone to watch Jeff beck live at Ronnie Scotts
