Carl Fogarty, Colin Edwards, Aaron slight, noriyuki haha, Akira yanagawa, Troy corset.....these guys were the legends me and my friends grew up wanting to be. And the guys on commentary take me back to being a child again
Oh the memories. This was the best era for motorsports. I loved the personalities in these top riders. The racing was outstanding. Also Keith ewan and Julian Ryder were the best commentary team ever. Brilliant!
What defined this era was also the clear colors of each team. The red eith ducati. White with honda. Green w kawasaki. Yellow w suziki. And the riders were amazing and competitve. Chili, haga, edwards, corsee, bayliss, foggy, slight, tamada, etc.
I just love Foggy's riding style, it was always unique but you forget how unique. His body shape is like a parachute in the breaking areas and in corners almost lifts himself off the bike.
It certainly was and there were points where it was actually more popular. One of the reasons why the Spanish Mafia AKA dorna wanted to buy Flammini (sp?) Brothers out was to eliminate the threat. And that's why soon as they took over they dumbed the series down. I can't stand dorna they are a bunch of Cock suckers.
@@archetypex65 At World Superbikes peak in the late 90s and early 2000s the superbikes actually started beating 500GP lap records so people started to believe WSBK was the premier bike championship since it was more exciting and in some cases faster. Then of course Dorna got involved and slowed the superbikes down. If the Superbikes didn't have so many restrictions it could be a lot more popular than it is today
I watched Superbikes in those days because the 2 stroke GP machines sounded shit. Also because I grew up in Berlin(West) everything 2 stroke was East-German crap (Trabant or MZ anyone?) but since MotoGP went 4stroke I get to watch both AND the Irish Road Racing Series where the guys with real balls race!
What defined this era was also the clear colors of each team. The red eith ducati. White with honda. Green w kawasaki. Yellow w suziki. And the riders were amazing and competitve. Chili, haga, edwards, corsee, bayliss, foggy, slight, tamada, etc.
These were the best days of WSB. No launch control, quick shift, yadda yadda. Just Throttle and lean, and brake. Balls out these guys were! Just took my 916 out for a ride!! lol
I attended nearly every WSB at Phillip Island from 1992 until 2004. Even better live. Troy Corser is a local lad where I live. He had huge support here.
@@jurgentreue1200 I attended nearly every British race of that era too - Donington Park mostly. Great memories, WSB was incredible back then. Loved watching them go at it n all us Brits cheering on Foggy ;)
Golden age of WSB, dont think it was ever as good as it was in the 90's, the bikes and the racers were in a different league. Some epic battles and foggy and chili having fisticuffs.
@@fintonstack8353 , my wife was a huge Frankie Chili fan. I managed to get a Chili t-shirt signed by him for my wife. You couldn't meet a nicer, humbler guy. In those days the top riders would mix it with us mere mortals. Always willing to sign autographs and chat. At Phillip Island, Steve and Carol Corser (Troy's parents) pitched a marquee tent and called it the Troy Corser Embassy. They were his biggest fans. Always a good place to hang out.
@@albuxtoni ,, the 1990s and early 2000s was the golden age of Australians in WSB. Corser, Bayliss, Goddard, Phillis, Gobert etc. I remember seeing Anthony Gobert dragging his elbow around Southern Loop at Phillip Island in practice, riding a Kawasaki. I was also at Phillip Island when Stephane Mertens' 888 was on fire running down pit wall. It happened right in front of me. There's good footage of the crash here on UA-cam.
I don't know when I last watched super bikes I couldn't name the main men in it now,but in the late 90s I was glued to it on the tele and reading about it on a magazine feels strange now mobile phones has kinda changed that
One of the Best Race series ever televised , Big viewing figures for every race shown ,all bikes were even and it was the best riders who won, not because their machine had the best electronic gizmo on it, Last of the proper Bike Racing, Heroes All
I think I would disagree the best years for world superbike were the early-mid to late 90s. When Merkel falappa bontempi, Chili were in the series. Some of the best races took place, 93 to 96. 👍
'95 & '96 Phillip Island WSBk was my Favorite Superbike Years- Anthony Goberts Double Win in '96 was the Best Imho! Godbless the Go-Show -I hope he gets his Sh*t Back Together!! I think he even won in the Rain @ P.I. in 2000? on the Bimota SB8r with a Tlr1000 motor!! He Gambled on a Wet Tyre Setup & The Gods Smiled Apon Him!! Exciting Times for SBK- The '90's was the Best Decade for Superbikes For Sure- Fred Merkel-Doug Polen-Scott Russel-John Kocinski-Frankie Chili- Troy Corser- Peter Goddard-Steve Martin-Aaron Slight-Simon Crafar-Carl Foggerty- Nori Haga -Colin Edwards-Akira Yanagawa-Troy Bayliss-Anthony Gobert- -Bloody Legends 👍Cheers🍺🍻
Always liked Haga, like they said he did well to compete on that R7 that never quite delivered what it promised. His style was so aggressive always great to watch.
Had a 748 back in the day my dad had the 916..I wish we kept them bikes the 748 was slow as shit but the 916 went well. Still one of the best looking bikes imo. Rip dad love you man.
I once at devils bridge , Kirby Lonsdale having a bacon sandwich when I heard a weird sound . It was the fog torturing an rc30 , wheeling it from the junction and sliding into a spot , class !
This whas the wsb days that got me onto wanting to ride watching with my dad as a child the wsb now days is good but this was an amazing time glad i saw it in real time foggy was always my favourite and Michael doohan
This is the season where I saw the best race troy and Colin no? That last race in Italy holy crap what a freaking race that was no knock down drag out I was waiting to see when they were gonna run out of laps because that how close they were....and I was lucky enough to have taped it,but I only watched it once,not....
Those commentators were REQUIRED to be familiar with all the riders because they were going to mention 15 rider fighting for the podium on a regular basis. Ah those were the days. #texastornado
WSBK seems so tame these days, smarmy Jonathon Rae winning all before him. Oh for these old days, especially Nori (you can't pass there, can you) Haga. Even BSB lost some of its sparkle after Shane Byrne was injured.
Yes a lot of people underestimated the RC45 and it was only a 750cc against a Ducati that was over 900cc a lot of people seem to forget that Carl Fogarty used to try and say that this is not the case but it was.. it was a better bike the build quality and everything else about it... I go out on my RC45 and I still blow bikes away that are a lot bigger CC's it's also to do with the rider don't forget that...👍🏻👍🏻
I see right off different front wheels on the ducks one 16 the other 17 inch ,I had a Yamaha FZ 750 with a 16 and 18 rear it pushed terrible with that bigger back to front ratio I was really hoping to ride a 17 inch front and rear, but I see some still like the 16 front but I hear 17 in the rear though ,moto gp what are they running be side completely exotic stuff, hell yes I'm jealous the better the bike the better u ride, don't be s stupid,chow...
I raced AMA formula extreme and 750 Supersport during this era. Most all Superbike teams ran 16.5 inch wheels front and rear. The roll out (outer diameter) of the tires are the same as a 17, but the smaller wheel allows for a wider footprint due to the shape of the crown. Today the Superbike rules mandate they all run 17 inch wheels. Moto GP still uses the 16.5s.....
Skelter sorry my friend but for me he was the best look how many world super bikes races and world championships he won have a look at my videos ok they are really good 👍😊
Fogarty won Four World Superbike Championships. He won the Formula 1 World Championship. He won a GP race. He won at the Isle of Man. He won the North West 200. He won at Ulster. He won the Suzuka 8 hour. He won the World Endurance Championship. Yes. He's probably the best.
Fogarty was just some lucky hater not a great rider. He was smashed many times by Haga with some Supersport bike like R7. Only idiots believe Foggy was some great champion
The golden age of WSB, great bikes, great pilots and great races 😍
Still 10 times I watch this....😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I miss Haga racing
And great announcers
Always preffered moto gp but yea there was some good races
Those were the best years of motorcycle racing. Without doubt
Carl Fogarty, Colin Edwards, Aaron slight, noriyuki haha, Akira yanagawa, Troy corset.....these guys were the legends me and my friends grew up wanting to be. And the guys on commentary take me back to being a child again
Not saying current WSBK is bad... but man these were the golden days of SBK racing in my opinion
You’re right. Bigger than GP racing at this point even though GP’s had legend Mick Dohahan
Got to agree with you there...👍🏻

@Pedr Halvorsen Keith still doing motogp on BT
I miss those days. Great talent and balls of steel. No electronics or rider aids. Those guys were the best of all time ...
I just love Foggy's riding style, it was always unique but you forget how unique. His body shape is like a parachute in the breaking areas and in corners almost lifts himself off the bike.
Old sbk ruled
Amazing years of racing watching these boys was my childhood and inspiration to ride
What an era of SBK!I still ride an Aprilia rsv r 2002.Raw and pure.Love it!
I have one too! Best bike ever. Most beautiful also! The sound is so lovely.

My two favourite commentators. I remember this race, great race
WSB at its best so many legendary riders, loved the Corser vs Haga show and Foggy vs Slighty

Que grandes carreras las que nos dieron estos pilotos ✊️✊️👏👏👏👏

Best Biking commentators duo ever. Huewen and Ryder. No one comes close.
a lot of people never new about the R7 a bike ahead of its time
Just saw one sell for 45k AUS!
Why don't we still have a 'curb camera' ?! Those are some excellent shots
