You know what they say ‘love finds a way’. Great video, thanks David 👍
He definitely sold to the right guy, fair play David for keeping so many of these it's nice to see a dealer who actually loves their product. Stunning collection of watches.
Most would be happy with a nice Rolex, but this dude took it to another level. Nice to see so many new ones together. More than any AD I reckon. I love that grey dial Yachtmaster as opposed to the Blue one. Great Collection.
Beautiful collection and I absolutely understand the collector's comments about admiring the pieces. I have a collection made up of both worn and unworn but feel exactly the same and can honestly say I get tons of enjoyment from looking at and handling all of them even if some don't get to be worn out. They are all fantastic and make me smile like this collection has made you smile.
I can well relate to this. I got over 50 watches and counting. Many of them are worn but most of them worn rarely, quit a few I have never worn. Still I enjoy ALL of them. Some people are so narrow minded that they insist that they ONLY buy watches because they like them and zero for the investment value. I say wow to that, really, you buy a watch for £20.000 and have not a single thought in your head for the future resale value? If that is the case you are either very very rich, or just plain stupid, who can othervice spend 20k and risk losing it all? Also I can totally understand the pleasure about just picking up a watch and just looking at it, reading about the history, understanding the movement etc etc, wearing it on the wrist is just one of many parts of the whole experience.
I have a hulk G1 seriel full set! Paid £4750! Should i get it serviced? It’s pretty beaten up and personally would prefer it to be in better condition. Will it affect the value if i do?
I read that there are a lot of moving parts in a mechanical watch movement, and if they stay static for too long the lubricants that help the gears run smoothly can begin to congeal. This can cause unwanted friction which will not only affect the watch’s performance but may also lead to damage. It does make me wonder of old new stock that sat in a drawer for 20 years. That begs the question how often to wind up the watches? Seems like a lot of work for watch dealers having to wind up their entire stock on a regular basis, or is this a non issue and the watch is fine to stay untouched ? (I'm asking, not preaching) Brilliant collection! I only got 3 watches and just one Rolex :-/
Do you provide a service for a 20 year old unworn watch, when sold? Lubricants break down, gaskets deteriorate, dissimilar metals, can corrode, I would be concerned as a buyer that perhaps 20 years without service, might conceal a problem, well after the return window has closed. Your thoughts?
Very interesting. Very curious to know why he choose to finally sell this off. Feels like watch people are cashing out on their watches, probably means Rolex bubble is in the cusp of bursting.
Believe it or not, such collectors usually have a few sentimental pieces that they wear, at some point, he really had the money to buy double, wear one, keep the other, believe it or not, David got this collection for a little fortune, why would you keep all these pieces at 60+ years instead of making a little fortune and enjoying your retirement...
Nice collection. I have collected watches since the 90's. All watches, except for complicated Pateks and steel Dayotonas were readily available for discounts. Steel Subs and GMT Masters were always in the case. The gray market was always at a discount, and many of the Pateks that were on waiting lists at ADs could be bought for a modest premium on the gray market. I had stopped buying watches in 2017 and was flabbergasted recently when I wanted to buy an updated Rolex! Then I found out how much a few of my watches were selling for! Crazy.
