Can't wait to get out on my R80G/S 1981, tomorrow. 😊
You've nailed it, Lad.
I have both an F800 GSA and an R75/5 that's been highly modified into a lightweight adventure machine. Hopping off the modern bike onto the /5 - which has a 900cc big bore kit and lightened flywheel -- yields the conclusion that the slower turning engine and higher torque output is just easier to manage in sloppy stuff. All that technology development and suspension hasn't translated into a better riding experience.
Why do media producers think a little -too-loud music goes well with someone talking ?
Nice review, just make sure you get the music more in the background, can hardly hear you.
I've got a 1989 R80GS myself, and it was really nice to see a modern review of this bike. Thanks for making it!
+Menze Kwint BMW GS Airhead for life
!
a blast from the past very good video thanks for sharing
Great Vid keep up the work, us riders need a channel like this.
Cracker review! Just came here from the Pan Americana review. So glad you stuck it out, you blokes make great stuff, really fun and insightful. Llel, you’re not just above average, you’re shit hot. Keep it up lads, I really hope this is making you guys some decent money, it looks like it makes you really happy. Also more Aussie Si/ Dad Cam. Please.
My GPz is gone and now I have a 1981 R80GS which I got back in 2010. a rebuild of the motor had been done and a fair repaint but it was far from perfect, it is perfect now though after the modify of the seat to lower it a bit I do need to have a firmer foam added
HI. I am new to BMW bikes, can you tell me whether all bmw r 80 G/S have matching numbers of Frame and Engine? Thanks
Thanks for that. Love it. Smacks of Exile on Main Street era Rolling Stones with a touch of Jeff Buckley. Will check out more of their stuff.
Great review, or could have been without music.
Enjoyed watching video but the music was a distraction/unnecessary
Nice video guys! I'm going to buy a R80 GS :)
Good luck
@@pappy9473 was gonna say the same thing, finding an old original 80 is like having a herd of unicorns on a T-rex farm.
thx got a 1989 r100 gs. This video is a good example: using lots of words without saying anything relevant. Brakes are extremely bad, yes. But there are kits for that issue on the market. stand up position is strange, but can easily adopted, as I found out on a friends R100 GS, same with shock absorbers. Gears are more than in an old bulldog land machine from old times, synth oil helps. This bike isnt fast but got enough torque. Handling is exceptionell, as you mentioned before yes, high speeds on german autobahn is not very stable. Fuel comsumption is about 7L/100km, oil consumption maybe about 0,3L/1.000km depending on engines condition, oil and driving. Headlight is H4 (?) and ok, but not good. For travelling is it one of the vest bikes. Ignition and some parts like generator function, starter engine is not always bullet prove. If the seal(?) around the clutch is leaking, you may get a problem on tour. Oil leaks are an issue, too. The engine doesnt like high revs, due to the ancient valve drive, sry 4 my english...
Beautiful bike and nice video! The music is the perfect choice…
What exhaust system does this bike have? It doesnt look like the stock one
+Matthias Van Oyen We honestly don't know. We were told the bike was as original! :)
+Brake Magazine After some research it is stock after all! thanks for the reply, great bike!
+Matthias Van Oyen We liked it!
Amen to your closing comment.
Yes, the background music is way too loud.
Nice vid. Who's the music by?
Alabama Shakes.
Brake Magazine Be Mine is the name of the song.
+Brake Magazine Annouing music as always on a bike video...
I'm starting to feel that too much technology dulls the whole riding experience. I have a new adv bike and an older one... I like the old one better. Thanks for this review!
You're welcome @Greg.
Why didn't you turn the music down when you were talking ?
Because six years ago we didn't know how to make videos. Why didn't you read the 246 other comments about turning the music down? 😂
@@BrakeMagazine Didn't mean to be rude but I'm partially deaf and couldn't get to the end of the video, do didn't get to the comments. Before I retired to Thailand, I had to sell my beloved R80GS that I'd owned for 20 years. Importing it into Thailand just wasn't possible. 7 years later I still miss it. One of the best handling bikes I ever had. Cheers mate!
"Background" music far too loud. What were you thinking?
This was one of our first ever videos. We had no idea sorry.
If I wanted a music video I would have chosen one.... much of the review was difficult to make out over the music and the sound of the bike was barely included.... music is a garnish not a main course for characterful motorcycles which create their own soundtrack....
Sorry music stopped me watching the rest, of what could have been a good film,
This would have been good were it not for the background music. If I want to listen to music, I'll put music on. I wanted to watch a bike video.
Pardon? cant hear a word. Just being honest.
Annoyed at the music...
Sorry you don't like it.
@@BrakeMagazine some mellow music to illustrate the joy of riding this beautiful bike might have helped.
Your chose of soundtrack was irritating and made it difficult to focus on your review.
Turn the bloody music down
Darren. It was seven years ago. We’ve learnt to turn the music down mate.
