Dear commenters: check the date. This video was posted in 2007, nearly 7 years ago, *before* Dylan Farrow spoke up. Can't really blame Henry for not having a time machine...
That case was a matter of public record in 1992, and was thrown out of court at the time and multiple psychologists and investigators came to the conclusion it had little merit. It’s bizarre people have amnesia and pretend 2014-15 was the first time it was ever mentioned
damn! $3.50 is what costs in my country (Panama) still! I know... sometimes I go in the states and its like $30- $40 with the popcorn (although I sneek in between movies and watch em for free), well, actually I dont go anymore cus movies are free now on the internet.
I really like you Mr. Rollins. You are really quite a special guy. Much like the message of this video, you follow your own heart and convictions and aren't afraid to express how you feel. You are wonderful. :)
The New Beverly Cinema in Hollywood is my favorite theatre in the city. Popcorn is only a dollar and the tickets are super cheap. I've seen films such as Casablanca, Streetcar Named Desire, Double indemnity, The Big Sleep and a couple of Woody movies too. There's great comradery and a palpable bond amongst the audience that you don't feel in the big theatres. It's a little treasure in LA then many locals don't even know about. I definitely recommend going if you visit or live in the LA area.
i love henry for saying positive things about woody allen. seemingly everyone on youtube is either a teenager who knows nothing of the multitude of great work allen's churned out over the years or an aging conservative hell-bent on digging into his private business. i love woody allen because he makes films that move me. do i love all of them? no. but his influence is such that i will take the risk (and it isn't a big one) and spend $8 on a movie ticket every single time he puts out a new film.
being a person who worked theatre for years and a huge fan of "indie" type films, i have never gotten too much into certain Woody Allen movies, but i do like a few of them, annie hall wasnt a favorite too weird but the rest were good, Henry Rollins speaks the truth, its sadly but true and i support his idea, guy lives by his words why not hang with that?
I think that's the New Beverly in LA, at least it looks like it did oh so many years ago when Jane ran the ticket booth or sold me those snacks from across the counter with that sly smile bathed in the glow of the popcorn machine. Brilliant tome Henry...
Have you seen Vicki Christina Barcelona? It was brilliant. Though nothing will ever touch his 80s nostalgia films(Broadway Danny Rose,Purple Rose of Cairo, and the best, Radio Days), its still one of his best. And his new one will star Larry David. It cant get much better
I love old Woody Allen...Rollins is right AGAIN! As Ned Flanders once said "I love Woody Allen movies except for that nervous guy thats always in them"
You are correct about Allen liking films from his generation, but what Rollins is talking about are Hollywood's films today and, according to his Biography, Allen rarely chooses to see Hollywood films that are made today.
Woody Allen is one of my favorite directors and he's very talented, no doubt about it. I just wonder what Hnery has to say about his support for Roman Polanski over the years. It's a bit troubling to me, personally.
@@devinmichaelroberts9954 He's in his 80's. It was going to eventually happen. He still released movies in Europe. Mia was cancelled after she was dumped by him.
Big budget films need studios to exist. However, with millions of dollars invested in them, the studios don't want to take any risks, severely limiting the filmmaker's creativity. That's why there's so many more important films (as long as we're talking about creativity and boundary-pushing) that are made with little or no money.
Excellant letter. Exactly why I don't go to see movies at the big cinemas anymore. I'll go to a small art theater... when they don't have some pretentious crap showing... but I'll be d*mned if I'll shill out hard earned bucks for the so called "Theatre experience". Good thoughts about Woody Allen. Rollins is still the sand in the vaseline... hoooray.
@gofindyourmusic How did you make the great leap from step daughter to daughter? The correct description is adopted daughter of a woman he felt sorry for and gave some work to(see also diane keaton). Rewriting history works well for michele bachmann but not for you.
America is a country, and in every country is a culture, or are cultures - America definitely has one, but it's based today on popularity, hence 'pop culture'. It's our main driving point, something is cool for a minute, everyone follows, and then we pick up something else.
Hey, "Bitter"Cycle, go see a LIVE Rollins show. He rants and jokes for an hour, then 2 hours of telling stories of his visits to "dangerous" countries like Laos, Cambodia, and PAKISTAN. DOING that (not just TALKING about it!) is way more courageous, bold, tough, etc. than saying "I like to f--k, and destroy stuff". I'm glad to see Rollins growing up, he still has a HUGE following with the college kids. I guess wanting to appreciate the beauty of life and humanity is "popular" these days. :)
Why bash Rollins? He seems like a really nice guy who's very intelligent and gets really pissed off when he's talking or singing about something he hates. Sure, he's not all that controversial now, but he's just as rational.
Nothing wrong with big budget films. Bad movies are bad movies and are bad regardless of the money pumped into them, it's just nobody cares when the film that cost $1000 was bad.
I went to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in the biggest theater in Berlin, in the second day of exhibition. Was surprising how much people were in the room: if it were more than 15 was too much. To see such a masterpiece. It's a shit to think that most of people spend their time and money seeing the common-american-blockbuster shit and don't even know who is Woody allen, even in a country so intellectualized as Germany. But i am also sure that Woody himself don't give a fuck about it.
The allegations of child abuse by Woody Allen aren't recent, the story of how he abused his daughters was known 22 years ago. Of course Mr. Rollins knew about what happened when he filmed this letter, but he seems to pick on certain people only. The rest he justifies.
Woody Allen is one of the last remaining filmmakers with integrity, in a time when everything is remake, reboot, remake, reboot, Woody hasn't stopped doing what he loves
As Alice Cooper said, "Talk in the movies and I'll kill you right there." I hate idiots in the theater talking, texting, little kids running around, etc. The last time I went to our local theater, and I complained, I was told that if I want to see a movie without people talking I should rent the DVD. How bass ackwards is that shit? I now drive 45 minutes to go to another theater.

Don't give a shit about Woody Allen, but DAMN SURE would love to have Henry stationed in movie theaters to tell motherfuckers to GET OFF THEIR GODDAM CELLPHONES...man...
They don't make movies like that anymore, why movies weren't even around when we were kids. We had to pitch a pup tent outside at night and me and my brother we each had a mason jar. Ben had lightning bugs in his jar for the lighting, and me, I had a mason jar full of moths and then late at night we'd open both jar lids together and watch the moths and lightning bugs dance around inside the tent and that's how we made movies.
hey I didn't say that it was wrong of him to do bit parts for money, I'm just saying that he does them for the quick cash, not for the exposure or the craft. hank rules!
I love how honest Henry Rollins is. I don't even know the guy, but at face value, you just know he's telling the truth.
He's a populist. I'd venture to say he presents a tru-ism and not The Truth. His views are openly prejudiced at times.
His Truth. Everyone has one. I respect Henry Rollins. Intelligent man.
Dear commenters: check the date. This video was posted in 2007, nearly 7 years ago, *before* Dylan Farrow spoke up. Can't really blame Henry for not having a time machine...
David Geelan It all came out in 1992, homie.
@@bonmot7850 Yes, and Allen was not convicted. Sorry
Rollins was sexually abused as a child and can likely spot a fake like Dylan Farrow.
…and this video was annoying when it was first posted. I remember cringing and patting myself on the back for always disliking Henry Rollins.
That case was a matter of public record in 1992, and was thrown out of court at the time and multiple psychologists and investigators came to the conclusion it had little merit. It’s bizarre people have amnesia and pretend 2014-15 was the first time it was ever mentioned

Henry hits the mark again, thanks for uploading!
Nice take. Stardust Memories is one of my all-time favorites.
The dude who bumps elbows with Hank is my brother! Seriously!! Totally awesome!

I love how on all Henry Rollins videos on UA-cam, there is the related video: Henry Rollins Beats Up A Fan
quality!! top bloke!
This letter-video made me want to get in Allen's filmography
Right, and what have you accomplished? What good have you done in the world?Rollins lives by his words
I just gained a mountain of respect for Henry Rollins. Awesome.
Oof

This is so cool for so many reasons. One of them being that it was filmed at the New Beverly where I saw my first Woody Allen movie.
Henry's face at 1:56 LOL

nice elaboration. you have convinced me of your merit.
Oh Henry, if you only knew...
Henry was sexually abused as a child and can likely see through a phony like Dylan Farrow.
This is damn good. Rollins is no fool.
Something from Henry Rollins/Garfield which I don't entirely dislike!
this is why i like henry rollins. he thinks a lot like i do.
Well put, Dr.Brule
HERE HERE.
"Sleeper" is a top 3 American comedy.
I think that's the nicest letter Henry's written
Hahaha! Well smart ass you made me laugh. Yeah that pocket protector is a real hot look 4 ya.
It’s 2021 now... wonder what Henry thinks of Allen now?
When the mother of the child in question refuses to take a polygraph test over her role in the accusations, end of debate. Reasonable doubt.
