    If you're looking at buying one of these, I highly recommend it! I've owned many different compact sedans and this one is by far the most comfortable, roomiest ones I've owned. I've owned a honda civic, honda accord, toyota corolla, mitsubishi lancer, and a volkswagen jetta. This is the best one out of all of them. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of leg room and head room sitting in the front seats. The acceleration is great with the manual transmission (haven't driven the auto). The 6 speed manual gears are longer than your average car and the extra horsepower gives is a nice little kick so you can pass people easily or get up to speed quickly on freeway onramps. I took mine up in the mountains (in California) to go camping a couple weeks after I bought it and it really hugs the turns well and you can speed without ever fearing you'll lose control. The tires are bigger at 17" than the other models so you grip the road better. There is average amount of road noise but not terrible. Nothing creaks or makes noise inside the cabin. In the sport model, when you're on a smooth road it rides incredibly smooth but when you're on a bumpy road, you feel all the bumps. The steering has little to no play in it so when you touch the wheel and make any little turn, the wheels turn. The clutch only needs to be pressed in about two inches to shift gears. You can lift off in second gear but not third. The speedometer goes up to 160mph (though I haven't gone past 80 in it for safety reasons). I regularly get between 34-38mpg on the highway and between 28-30mpg in the city. Overall, for the price, its a damn good little car. Mine currently has 36000 miles on it.

      BTG which year of Jetta you had? I currently have a 2007 5 cylinder 2.5 which I love it but I am thinking about upgrading to something newer and more fuel efficient, right now I’m stuck between a 2015 Elantra sport or 2015 Jetta turbo

    I test drove the Elantra Sport. It rides smoother than Corolla and Civic and has better acceleration. It is loaded with options and has heavy discounts right now. I even liked it more than any of the mid-size sedans that I drove except maybe the Sonata.

    The Elantra's greatest point is it's styling sharpness in this version. I probably should have drove the automatic version. I drove a '14 Sport and the manual was fine, as well as power, but I killed it twice in first gear, it has no low-end torque or it has something to do with the fly-wheel tuning, which I didn't have that problem in 3-4 other brands or another Hyundai I test drove. Maybe adding a performance air filter would help or I would have to acclimate to the Elantra Sport's 1st gear. After take-off and through 2nd, 3rd and up I was flying. It has an excellent third gear to extract all you can from that engine. I felt like if the take-off from first gear met my expectation I would have bought it, but for what market I'm into I can move up and down i.e. Accent or Rio with a manual. I still think it's an excellent car and would recommend it. Maybe I'll take a second test drive. It could have been a certain factor. On top of all these points the 2016 Elantra new model is coming out and I'm sure it's going to up the game. Hyundai has solid quality, respectable and high-value cars. My quick take on it was from one test drive. In first gear it has to be revved quite a bit, which didn't feel smooth for low speed maneuvers. The Accent didn't do that, or a Fiesta, or even a Mirage. Just a singular point.

    0:40 They tried so hard not to mention the Ford Focus. Then try to put it in as an aside later as a negative point. People really don't like giving Ford their due credit.

    The Mazda 3 gets 30 city/40 hwy mileage with its 2.0 155 HP engine. The 2.5 185 HP engine gets 28 and 38. Hyundai needs to match these mileage numbers to be competitive. Both the Corolla and the Sentra also get better mpg's than the Elantra. Back to the drawing board Hyundai engineers.

      +Packfan I own a 2011 Elantra base model. Even though my car may not get gas mileage like the other brands, it's still very good on gas and I have yet to complain about how much I spend at the pump. Not to mention that my car is backed with the best warranty (even though I haven't had to use it). My car is 150,000 miles strong with no hiccups. I wouldn't dare trade it in for any other car in the segment and I've driven or rode in all of the compact cars in the class. Everything is "just right" in the Elantra imo. But as an engineer, I do agree that they still have quite a way to come. However, I don't doubt the company's abilities because they are extremely quick on their feet with respect to how far they have come in the past 10 years.

      Pack Fan, read my what I said above, regarding the Mazda 3. While it was a fun car to drive, not sure I would be willing to buy another one based on the problems I had with it.
      The new Mazda 3's are great on gas mileage, but regarding your comparison of the Elantra to the Corolla -- you're comparing the Corolla, which has a smaller engine, to this Elantra featured in this video, which the Elantra has a 2.0 engine. It's not an apples to apples comparison. CVT's get great gas mileage, no doubt, but some of us don't like them.
      Also the Sentra's gas mileage is only 29 MPG mixed driving. for a 1.8 Liter engine, that's no better than the base model Elantra.

    If this car have 175 hp that means its fast, toyota camry & nissan altima for example have almost the same hp, but this car is smaller and less Wight, so it supposed to be a sport edition.

    What is the air pump going to do for you when have a flat tire?

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 9 років тому +1

      +Anonymous Hippo you fill the tire up with air. 90% of flats are slow leaks from small nails and screws. you just need to top off and drive to the nearest tire shop. no need to change the tire. only in the case of a blowout, sidewall damage, or extremely large nail does the leak become unsafe to drive on.

    Am I the only one who cannot understand why Hyundai chose the 2.0 liter instead of the 1.6 Turbo from the Veloster? the 1.6 would move this to the top of the class. ...

      Because just Google how often Hyundai gets out of the warranty and you could offer anything if you didn't fix it. And they don't , smoke and mirrors better do everything in the book at dealer and you still will get run around . 120.00 to patch a tire and failed my inspection cause they found a small nail , heck wasn't leaking . Now I know why the one and only time back to dealer for my free inspection took so long.

    You don't need warranty with Mazda

    • @buffalocrotch
      @buffalocrotch 8 років тому

      Oh yes you do need a warranty with the Mazda. I used to own a 2007 Mazda 3, bought it brand new, and shortly after the car had 80,000 miles on it, the AC went out, thankfully I had a 7 year, 84,000 mile extended warranty on it, because that repair was covered, it would have been a $1,200 repair otherwise.
      Unfortunately after the car went over 84,000 miles, and the extended warranty was gone, the AC on the Mazda continued to break down, and you can't drive a car without AC here in Florida.
      Also, the 2 front windows were problematic on the Mazda 3, the material that formed a seal at the tops of the 2 front windows when they were rolled up, expanded in hotter weather, and I could not roll the windows down from about late May, to about late Sept - in the summer months. I kept the windows clean, and also cleaned out the material at the tops of the doors where the windows sealed when rolled up, but still could not roll windows down in Summer. Finally, the motors went bad in both front windows, that happened at about 75,000 miles, If I didn't have the extended warranty, then that would have been about $800 out of my pocket.
      Also after the extended warranty ran out, when the Mazda had about 100,000 miles, the Leak Detection Pump went out, and caused the check engine light to go on. Now I could still drive the car with this faltering part, but it was annoying having the check engine light come on.
      Other than that, the Mazda was a good car, but I gave up on the car, because I got sick and tired of AC breaking down constantly. I kept up with all the maintenance, and service, so it had nothing to do with neglect or lack of service.
      The one good thing I will say about Mazda's extended warranty, there was never an issue as far as getting the repairs completed under the extended warranty. All the repairs were honored if they met the criteria of the EW.
      I finally traded in the Mazda 3 in with 115,000 miles, for a new Hyundai Elantra. And yes, I do have a better extended warranty on the Hyundai, 10 years, 120,000 miles. Wish I had that on the Mazda, because I could have possibly kept the AC running.
      In hindsight I wish I had done more research, certain Mazda dealerships offer longer extended warranties than 7 years, 84,000 miles.
      Zoom Zoom was disappointing, so, while I really liked the ride and the sportiness of the Mazda, I would hesitate to buy another one.

    • @buffalocrotch
      @buffalocrotch 8 років тому

      Don't get me wrong, I loved owning that Mazda, it drove great, and for the 2.0 smaller engine, with a stick shift, it had plenty of get up and go. I might be willing to go back to Mazda in the future, but just seeing how the ownership experience will go for the 2016 Elantra for now.

      Seth Wilson the 2.0 gdi goes about 6.8 seconds with a stick in my Elantra. even my moms 1.8 stick was 7.7 seconds. the Jetta 1.8T is around 7.2 0-60. should have the advantage but is heavier.
