Mi .. awesome idea! I'm just going to go disconnect from the internet box in the house! Oh no! Wait! Can't do that. One family member is doing school online 🤔😒
I think for a lot of people it’s less about escaping boredom than it is about quieting anxiety-the anxiety of being in a tumultuous world of which we are probably more aware than any previous generation thanks to technology, omnipresent controversy-fueled media, and constant, dispiriting-to-infuriating political conversation and contextualizing; anxiety of the pressures of inheriting a broken world made out of bullshit. Young people are scared and upset. They need to watch videos and talk to “friends” to dull the constant ache of thought. A symptom of the mindfulness necessary to survive in the modern world has become a constant pull to find the quickest escape route, even to the detriment of that survival. You can’t BE “bored”. You’re not allowed anymore. You don’t have time. You’ve gotta gear up to pay your bills, save the world, and never retire.
TanFlicks it should have been a big controversy long time ago. We're feeding money to Apple, Mac, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Nintendo..(hmmm, leave anything out?!). Making them rich at the expense of our health! Figured this would come to a head after watching my kids use their gadgets for over 18 years!!!
So true, that's why I tell my mom to not let my lil sister use phone or tablet more than one hour and harlf a day. We as young adults (I'm twenty one) and adults should pay more attention to this topic of tech and kids.
It is affecting our creativity indeed. Like VR art, modding communities, learning about all sorts of things through UA-cam (the paltaforn you are currently using to spread this message) and the list goes on. Sure, tech vegetables are a problem. But it not the technology integration with our lifestyle that's a problem, is how some people approach it. Education is the key to most of our society's problems, including this one
can you guys please remeasure the malinois bite force? I know that was a long time ago but I’m pretty sure the bite force is going to be around 200.please I really want you guys to do this
i thought it were the social kids who got phones first in school. The quieter ones in my classes didn't had phone but sociable ones had freaking iphones at age of 14 and some of them turned to be successful so far.
Why exactly are the phones the bad thing? We have computers in personal use since the 70's, these people don't have this problem? Should you really draw a correlation here?
yes but now, more then ever, everyone is constatly using some kind of tech. It can be an ipad, phone, laptop, pc or pretty much anything. there is sooo many possibilities today and thi gs you can do with them that there is pretty much no reason to ever get off of them which wasnt the case in 70'. Like this dude said, we arent allowing us to become "bored." he doesnt literally mean bored. its a metaphor for the time when you dont have anything to do and let your mind fly away for a bit and think about stuff, important stuff. People are simply not wondering away anymore and thats bad because "geting bored" is what gives you ideas.
Bastet-Chan think about it this way they had computers but the internet didn't exist until the 90's and then all you had was dialup for a while that horrible thing that tied up phone lines or would get knocked off if the phone was picked up. It wasn't until WiFi and non dialup connections existed that technology became a large issue. Upgrades created more capable technology, and now finding a definition or answering a question is as simple as a google search. No thesaurus, dictionary, almanac, or encyclopedia reading.
AT22 Yea, those were enormous. Actually, the first computers ever invented were literally taking up the whole room with their screen and huge tubes coming out of them. The millitary ones.
With or without tech the vast majority of people has always been un-creative, just look at people who use face book, speaking of which you say that over exposure to blue light causes memory lost over time.... interesting.
This content shows a remarkable depth of insight. A book I read with like-minded themes changed my direction. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint
It just goes to show how we need to stop jumping on every shiny, new toy (or tool) that we come up with. Fossil fuel use seemed like great idea at the time. Look where that has brought us. I'm not suggesting we trash our tech, only be judicious in applying it.
HeavensGates, I think that you misunderstood me. I only meant that we should have honest and thorough impact studies BEFORE we implement these things. When they test out safe, we're go to go. If they don't, we can avoid future complication. Thanks for your input. Peace.
Technology has taken over in a brutal way. Technology overuse has multitudes of consequences: 1. It impacts how we interact in social situations 2. It causes the brain to react the same way as it would with additions, such as alcohol, gambling, drugs 3. It affects our IQ 4. It causes significant rates of suicide- I've heard stories of suicides stemming from social media. 5. It increases anxiety and depression, which is more prevalent than ever 6. It takes away our ability to come up with ideas and our ability to have answers to questions without looking up on Google. 7. It can cause arguments with family and friends from the overuse
As someone that’s had a phone most of their life and is an artist studying Visual Arts I can safely say this information on affecting creativity is false. In fact it’s reversed. The internet allows you to access all sorts of concepts and ideas that would take much longer to extract from external sources. More exposure means more experience which allows you to better press the envelope and think outside the box. These people are forgetting that the internet is the largest database of knowledge period. If used properly it can aid any skill. However the physical repercussions I will not argue. But yea calling BS on the creativity thing. If you think your phone is preventing you from being creative you were too stupid to be creative in the first place.
I think if you are around 15 years old and play the game spore or any other similar games then you will develop 10x times more imagination and creativity ability than people like 10 years ago and before
I disagree with this, technology is what has made me the creative and smart person I am. Although I wouldn't be surprised if you became brain-dead for using social media.
amaloyds that's something freaky mane ,but that comes with age as well 40 is mid age, you'll probably 9 times out of ten lose brain thinking cells not all, but I'm sure it won't be as sharp as when you were younger guys😏 ...#NationalGE #MyOpinion #GreatVideo
Natgeo, I have to proudly dislike this video. The amount of generalization and misinformation, as well as misrepresentation of youth is astounding. Shame on you.
Mirepresentation of youth ? I see everyone around me (including myself) mostly on their phones, and I'm in an agricultural high school (which means people less inclined towards technology)
Alipheese Vayentha Ok, look. From a scientific standpoint, you simply cannot generalize an entire population based on one factor. There are many things leading to higher suicide rates, and simply stating as phones being the main cause is highly misleading. There are too many confounding variables affecting suicide rates.
Modern technology has been shown to affect memory and creativity in developing minds. How do you feel about technology's impact on society?
Na
Getting people aware for not using tech
On other hand, in the end of the video, the woman is suggesting to check out other videos.
Haha
brb im gonna go destroy all the electronics in my house

Quieting the anxiety that the technology itself causes haha.
Atleast for me. It's like a perpetual feed back loop.
boredom is important because boredom clicks in the creative activities. We don’t allow ourselves to get bored anymore.
This is gonna be a big controversy now... Brb getting my popcorn!
TanFlicks lol popcorn 😊

And yet you're uploading this on UA-cam, a product of technology👏👏👏
Took Dr. Rosen's class at CSUDH. Fascinating stuff!!
Where can I get the full video about this.

Wear blue light blocking glasses when looking at screens. Save your vision, & your brain.
So how did u do this experiment...
Very Very True.

Some people are controversial for the sake of being controversial. What this guy said will never catch on and life will go on.
Bastet-Chan The boredom surely is a problem, but I think the development in work & etc is contributing to it.
People need to chill.
Omg, I was just talking about brain development with my friend.
Izu mi same 😂
I can't find any source on the blue light plaques thing. Does anybody have any article or anything on it? It sounds very worrying

Still worth it.

rather not be bored
That is so true
wow this makes me never want to use a phone ever again
Funny how they make a video trying to make you stop looking at your devices then conclude by telling you to click one of their other videos
Wait then why do they make us watch things on TV's at school
correlation does not equal causation!!!
First it was books. Then it was movies, then it was games. When are we gonna stop blaming the newest form of media as ruining development?
Without being able to read on my phone I would simply know less. I can't "imagine" the correct answer to every question.
Katie is suited for Nat Geo. This should have been longer simular to the previous one she did . Should be 20 minutes like Ted Talk.
This is a test up to 2014 thats 4years ago. This is old news might not even be accurate
Danielmeir If anything it's getting worse, lol.
Yeah, keep saying that to yourself
Apparently old news cant be accurate...
Ooh yeah i got depression and suicide thoughts because of high school.
I still think people would be even dumber without the internet and thier phone.

So basically, technology stops you from being bored, it stops your mind from wandering and day dreaming which hinder creativity. Nothing too serious.
Painful but true, technology is making humans as humanoids
"We don't allow ourselves to get bored anymore"
I don't know, I sat here kinda bored just the other day.
I knew it
I have always known it
My god , it's scary when it lca cause suicide, we have to think of solutions

I'd say the opposite, with most developers of tech taking ergonomics into consideration the new technology is probably a better choice.
HeavensGates, I think that you misunderstood me. I only meant that we should have honest and thorough impact studies BEFORE we implement these things. When they test out safe, we're go to go. If they don't, we can avoid future complication. Thanks for your input. Peace.
