Yes it was, and one of the best games i ever played. i enjoyed it some much that i tryed for a long time to finish the game on the highest difficulty, at the end i made it. 2 missions were almost impossible to do.
This mission was splendid, totally didn't know what was in store for me for the COD 4 campaign. I loved the stealth and how the mission could go two ways, guns ablazing or stealthy as intended. But, the last segment is what really got me. Infinity Ward emphasized the post apocalyptic feel to the city, not the beautiful fall colors that you actually see some times of the year.Rather than thinking ''Oh cool, an abandoned town, nature is slowly reclaiming it'', you get the chills. The ghostly sounds of the children who died are heard in the background, the last sound being a cry for help. You're all alone, just you, MacMillan, and the only other sign of life being the chopper that briefly flies by. The windows are cracked and broken from abandonment, overgrowth ruggedly deteriorating the buildings, mold, peeling paint, old posters. It's cloudy, and cold, with small drifts of snow. Then you hear MacMillan's immortalized words. ''Fifty thousand people used to live here. Now... it's a ghost town. I've never seen anything like it...''. The quiet, saddening, lonely track plays in the background as you and MacMillan see where it all happened. There sits the Chernobyl Power Plant. Silent, with a rusting sarcophagus and old cranes, where ten years ago they hastily tried to contain the radiation. Everyone who worked the jobs containing the radiation have passed away. And there sits the old, rusting sarcophagus and the cranes that helped put it together, essentially dead too.

When I have bought a nice house with a beautiful wife, watched my kids grow and moved out and finally enjoying my days in retirement, I will some day return to this game and play this mission, thinking about all the awesome shit I did as a teenager.
I actually prefer the original version of this over the remaster. This one just feels far more atmospheric and grey. Such nostalgia watching this as well.
This was the most tense mission of any game I've ever played, but it was done in a way that it was enjoyable. I have no idea how, but it was. And I loved it.
Fun fact: You only need to use 3 bullets for this entire mission, I've done it a number of times. The only compulsory kills are the first guys (MacMillan gets the other one), the look out in the church tower, and the sniper on the fire escape after the "bloody convention". You can sneak past all the rest. If you don't believe me, try it for yourself.
