- Yes, you really can make these gorgeous gazing balls / globes in under 30 minutes. You just need a few basic supplies and away you go. They can look stunning in any garden. You can place them on a stand if you want them on a patio or decking area. DIY garden orbs are so cool!
They are so expensive if you try to buy them from a garden centre or online. So, why not make your own and craft on a budget?
These are purely decorative but historically people believed that they were good luck and could ward off evil. I just like the way the sunlight reflects off the glass.
If you want to make them more weather resistant you can coat them in clear silicone sealant which takes a few hours to set. It depends on where you live in the world but I bring mine indoors for the winter as I do not think they will like the cold wet winters in the UK.

I agree!
Wow they look amazing you are so talented
Thank you. I love crafting and gardening and this combines the two so I love them too. Maybe you can make one for your garden.
Maybe 😜
Awesome
Glad you liked it. Enjoy making yours!
That is so beautiful.l have a question and hoping someone can give me the answer,l have a bowling ball that l want to decorate for the garden, can l use No nail glue that dries clear?
I haven't done it but I would have thought so. If you are happy to have a go simply do it. Try a few glass pebbles and see how it goes.
@@ChristinesCrafts Thank you for your comment, I have some glass pebbles but thought I would try the marble balls as I have way too many! Lol
@@tracy9792 Oh yes. Always use what you have. It is my main crafting philosophy! 😄
These are beautiful. Do the help with getting sunlight to shady parts of the yard?
Thank you. I have not found that they literally lighten any area up but they make it appear brighter and more interesting just by reflecting light and being colourful. I hope that helps.
@@ChristinesCrafts thanks so much. I am going to give these a try. I have a little patch of mushrooms that keep popping up. I am trying to find some remedies. My little one is very interested in them and I don’t want him or the dog to get any. Have a great rest of the week.
Thanks for making this video! Can you describe how to use silicone on it afterwards to reinforce it?
Yes, I used a tube of silicone that I squeezed onto the ball all over it, making sure to fill in between all the glass beads.
@@ChristinesCrafts Thanks! But wouldn't silicone leave a film that leaves a film on it, thus the light doesn't reflect as well, causing less "bling"? Also, is a wood dowel strong enough to support a ball that weighs about 5 lb or should I look for metal?
@@bevpines7453 Yes, it does. One way around it is to just get the silicone into the gaps between the glass rather than over them. Tricky but possible.
@@ChristinesCrafts Didn't the silicone leave a film on the marbles? Or did you just go in between (tedious!)?
@@bevpines7453 I did leave a film on one of mine but worked between all the marbles on another. Yes, it took a while! I did use wooden dowels but they struggled with the weight so I am switching to metal this year.
What material is that ball composed of please? Couldn't make out what you said. Also where do you find these?
It is a polystyrene ball which you can find on Amazon or Ebay. Some people call it styrofoam. I hope this helps. 😀
Styrofoam most any craft store sells them
