238 - Pokeradar Chaining Guide + Full Shiny Starly Chain with Patch!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 сер 2013
- This is a guide to obtaining shiny Pokemon with the pokeradar on Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. I honestly just give tips and pointers while completing a full chain for a Shiny Starly. If you have any questions or concerns, please comment, and I will try and respond or fix any errors I may have made. I also will do a follow-up video if necessary.
Pokeradar chaining is a lot easier than other methods of shiny hunting; don't rag on the Masuda method or typical random encounters; that kind of hunting takes a whole lot of skill. Also, I am aware you can easily obtain shiny Pokemon through pokegen and hacking, but what's the fun in that? It's like reading the summary and ending of a book without getting the full story. Shiny hunting is an adventure and a fun hobby. I, however, do respect your decision if you do cheat for shinies due to not having time to hunt. - Ігри
30 Buneary's later, out from the bushes waddles a Budew. Weren't kidding about that whole, "Chains just randomly break for the sake of breaking" bit.
I understand that this is quite an old video now, but I only recently got back to Platinum and I never understood how to chain successfully. This is, by far, the most easily understood and clearest tutorial on how to chain successfully. Although it wasn't successful, I managed to chain over 20 Pokémon while hunting in the Route 211 grass (where Tyrogue is found); before seeing this tutorial, my only successful chain was less than half that. Thanks for this tutorial!
Glad to hear that!!! best of luck on your chaining
I think if you make it to 40 dont try anymore. Just keep those repels going and wait till you see the shiny patch. then catch it and you can keep going. I got 3 shiny shinx and 3 shiny Arons like this. perfect for a living dex if you were going for it
whoops he covers it in the vid anyway, good stuff!
I use Onett from Earthbound, one of the Kirby tunes from the anniversary collection CD, Flying Man from Earthbound, and the battle palace music from Pokemon Platinum
19.99 for pearl used from GameStop? I remember that point in time 😂
"Chains randomly break sometimes" you mean every damn time
particularly after 35 nidoran(f)
@@martinbacaloni4336 F
I completed the chain for buizel then I saw the shiny patch but I accidentally crossed the normal patch above and ruined the chain
Hey absol, I love how you still read the comments on this video. This video is part of the reason I got into shiny hunting and I’ve been avid on it since. Glad to see that even videos of yours that are a whole decade old hold up pretty damn well :)
just be prepared with a ton of repels, and only go for the patches that seem safe and match the initial patch you step into. I always just go for the loud, violently shaking patches for ease of eyesight.
The hardest thing about chaining in X and Y is that there are few good sized grass patches. Try the big field of purple flowers on Route 5 or the grass patch under the cave on Route 7!
AbsolBlogsPokemon Woah old comment but I bought at least 150+ max repels after farming money of the two old people near the trophy garden
what makes shinies special before the
Pokémon being an alternate kolor? pls
i need 2 know bc if the Pokémon being
a different kolor than normal im not gon
do this all
@@o.o2808 its just the color!
So weird i never had issues learning to chain in x and y but in platinum I’m just not having it… I won’t give up tho
I encountered a shiny staravia out of pure luck, I had no pokeballs...
+MagnetBlaze 91827 Sorry Elmo
John Moclair I cry every time.😞
+MagnetBlaze 91827 Same thing with me but for me it was in SoulSliver and I saw a Weedle. -_-"
One time I ran into a shiny pidgey before the game gives you Pokeballs in Heartgold
I feel you I encounterd a random shiny ratatta in heart gold and no pokeballs
this is seriously the best tutorial, helped me alot.
Lots of people hate on method hunts but Pokeradar is no walk in the park. It actually requires intense concentration and focus. If you really take your time with it getting to a chain of 40 sometimes takes hours! And even if you do everything perfectly, there is always a chance your chain will break. It's frustrating but when you do get to a 40 chain the feeling cannot be described!
As someone who primarily hunts full odds now, I still love a good Pokeradar hunt!!
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon YES! I'm the same way. I love a nice full odds hunt but pokeradar is just classic good fun. Lots of work but fun.
Broke my chain of 33 😭😭
Update*
Made it to chain 40 accidently runned away😨
Update(2)* (Few hours later)
Was able to get a chain of 47 catching 2 shiny shinx's!!!
Thanks for the tips
Rey Garza just today I finally got a chain of 40, and caught four shiny shinx lol I was so happy
I remember 3hr chain break.
@@willwozniak3374 My Chain always breaks before 33, I dont know what I am doing wrong. :(
Benny Geht Dich Nix An there’s a 12% chance of the chain breaking randomly... if you catch the Pokémon, there is a theoretical 98% chance of the next encounter continuing the chain if you do everything right. ALSO, it does NOT matter if the patch of grass is in your line of sight or bordering another patch, it just has to be four spaces away. Good luck!
Will Wozniak Ok, so I should buy about 40 Pokeballs?
I really appreciate you uploading this video tbh!
The mechanic is much more approachable and less fearsome when i can watch the whole process before :3
Glad to hear that!! best of luck
I was on my 7th swablu, and then I found a shiny!
Thanks so much for the help, man, I've been trying to find one for weeks!
Shiny hunting with the radar may not require as much luck, but it certainly requires skill. Where's the skill in running around in grass over and over thousands of times until you get a shiny? Nowhere. In chaining, there is so much shit to keep in mind, it's way trickier but worth the time and energy.
taijutsugal It takes both
Chains don't "randomly" break. Every patch has a certain percentage of finding the pokemon depending on how far away the patch is. Always go 4 away from you. The base percentage is 88%, but if you catch the last pokemon you fought, it goes up by 10% only for that one radar reset. That means at first there is a 2% of breaking the chain, then every reset after, there is a 12%.
Correct! Been planning on making another followup video soon on this. I didn't know about this until earlier this year when wwwwwwzx posted some datamined info about X and Y's radar
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon you should make one ultimate guide, with all the new info that has come out. I think that would be really helpful, considering there are so few videos about chaining.
I'll try to! Gonna make sure I do a ton of fact checking first
thanks for making this it really helped me with things i was unsure about with video instead of just text so it was easier to understand so thanks!
I got a shiny pokemon on diamond with a chain of 2. I didn't even know what I was doing
Nice 😂👌🏾
Double I got a sentret at a chain of 3 lol
I got a shiny Ponyta at a chain of 3 xD
Best day of my life
I got shiny Giratina on first try PURE LUCK
Oh yeah? Well I found back to back to back shinies right after I got poke balls in every single Pokémon game I’ve played thus far! Caught them all first try with crit capture! 6 IV, beneficial nature, and pokerus on all of them, too!
oh yeah!! That happened to me, too. It appears that that happens whenever you reset near the edge of the grass patch, so I guess in Gen VI, always try to re-activate in the middle of the grass patch.
Thanks man this helped a bunch and I got my first chained shiny, which was a starly
Thanks to this video i have about 7 successful shiny pokemon at a chain of 40 some of them early than expected my best achievement is a 10% duskull on my platinum really proud of that one :D i've been going for a 4% gastly and its really hard barely did a 19 chain few days ago and now i can even do 15 chains following all these steps fell like im forced to do a 15 chain and just reset and hope for a miracle that i get the gastly like that haha
Bulbasaurite hey lmao cyndatrill here
I have a shiny gangar
I like shiny duskulls
My chain randomly ends so much, I can't take it. I know what I am doing, and I came here to see if you could tell me why it ends so much. As proof of what I know what I'm doing, I've caught 11 shinies in Pearl. Three of them random.
Try catching eack pokemon and the chance of breaking the chain is lowered by 10%
@@marmar-agar4753 only if you don't refresh the grass manually with the radar. So it has to be perfectly 4 steps away on the auto roll after battle, otherwise the +10% bonus is worthless.
After 2 hours of chaining, I finally caught a shiny Riolu in Y! :]
Donth after 2 hours of chaining I broke my chain
Wo
iirc Y could only chain fishing
Any chain that takes over 3 hours and breaks at 33. Theirs a death certificate.
@@NekoReborn false. Pokeradar is in X and Y. Get to the postgame.
I rewatch this video whenever I feel like returning to the Poke Radar, and I got a full odds shiny eevee on a chain of 26 while watching! Normally not one to comment but this is my first shiny of 2024 and a really neat one too! Thanks so much for the tutorial and good luck to everyone who enjoys the radar across the franchise :)
Thanks so much this was a great help your tips helped more than others
A day before watching this, i was training up a heracross on ss and bumped into a shiny spearow, i got a crit and so i accedently killed it, so i am gonna use the chaining hunt for a shiny spearow, i wont give in!
thanks this helped a lot!Reply to this if you still play dis game in 2016...
Hey :P
I got a chain of 42 on starly and I f*cked up when I accidently stepped on a patch containing bidoof. I was so depressed but so happy at how far I got.
yup
;v
tfw Platinum was your childhood
Thank you so much for this video!!! It was really freaking helpful 😁👍
thank you so much!! right after this video i used all your tips an got 2 chains of 40! :))
Really old vid but I’ll sub because this got me into playing platinum again. It’s funny, I was planning to go for starly in that same patch.
Edit: So I was egg hunting rowlet in Shield and on my 9th egg shiny FEMALE rowlet 5 perfect IVs :D
They better be bringing back the pokeradar in these remakes!
That and the Vs. Seeker, too!
Thanks this is probably the best changing tutorial I’ve seen
Out of all the guides I've seen so far, this is honestly the best one, since it actually physically shows where the patches of grass you want should be. Just tried shiny hunting recently and I was confused whether or not using the PokeRadar broke the chain, but thankfully this video actually explained that it didn't.
Finally after around 5 hours of chaining at 40 I got a shiny smeargle! Worth the wait, its my favorite Pokemon.
Grats!!!!!
my chain always breaks around 20 ;-;
I'm failing at 10
Around 2
Exept wen i found a shiny pat with a smeargle on 3 encounters
Giovanni Moya Are you fucking kidding me.... o.o
Lampy1 I got 2 bidoof the GOD of pokemon
Shattered Zeraora Well then xD
Congrats man!!! Glad it was helpful.
Thxs dude! I was so confused on this method for 2 years
Glad this helped!!
I'm just sitting here. SR for a shiny turtwig in diamond.
Have you considered RNG abuse?
What is RNG abuse?
Shaggy This Isn't Weed Same I'm going for chimchar in platinum. Did you find it yet?
Zapplabob I'm going for piplup in -pearl- diamond. Have you found that chimchar?
the weirdest person you would ever meet Have you found that shiny piplup? lol
I caught a shiny Zoroark on X using this as a starter guide!
Thanks man! I really appreciate this guide!
I just finished finding the last ~20 Pokémon in my Pearl specifically so I could use the OG Pokeradar! Thank you for the wonderful guide, I’m hoping to get a Starly that I can on my Diamond playthrough!
Man back when Gen 4 Pokémon games were like $20.00 like in 2013 , take me back to that time
right? crazy how expensive they are now
It's crazy to think that only 4 years ago you'd expect to pay no more than $50 give or take for these games, but now you're expected to pay no less than $100
Found a shiny Zapdos on fire red while watching this i completely lost the plot i ended up catching it with 3 ultra balls left i'm so happy :)
Just successfully Radar Chained for the first time because of this video, thank you Matt for being goated as always
Hey Absol I love pokemon but could never find a shiny thx for the help man I subbed!! :D
Decided to try Diamond. I think I played it once before but it was long enough ago that I'd completely forgotten most of the stuff I learned that time. Right around Floaroma I encountered a shine Geodude. My first time ever seeing a shiny. I'd heard about shiny pokemon for a long time but was told the odds were very low in encountering one naturally so I pretty much forgot about them. Encountering and capturing that shiny Geodude got me curious if there was a way to increase the odds in finding them. Since I started looking around about it I've seen something about a Cute Charm glitch and this chaining deal. I haven't beaten the Diamond version Elite 4 yet but I'm hopeful that once I do I can get the poketech app and give this deal a go. I'm very curious to find out what sets a shiny patch apart from the other ones. I tried to pick it out in your video (I watched all 20+ minutes) and still wasn't able to see it, though I did notice there was a difference in timing here and there.
*Edit* I just watched the 20 seconds before the shiny encounter again and actually saw how the shiny patch differed. It looked like it was electrified. Very interesting!
last night I was watching this video and I got my shiny emolga!!! its my first live full odds shiny!!! XD
Thank you soooo much!!! I'm a beginner at chaining so my chains kept breaking, I even had one break at 39, but this video kept me motivated to keep trying, and I'm very happy with my shiny skitty it's my first shiny in any game I've played, thank you sooooo much!!!
Fantastic video! I'll have to share this one with others!
Thank you for this video currently I was on route 210 looking for a shiny bagon and I got a couple of chains going but surprisingly 15 minutes into doing a chain a got the shiny beaver 😂 lol I'm gonna try and repeat this step more and more thanks for this video man
did you find it
+Pkmn Master 135 nah lol
+Armando Valtierra how :(
Apparently, catching a Pokémon occasionally in the chain raises the chance the chain continues by 10%, only maxing out at 98% after catching 10 Pokémon in the chain. Doing so, every few encounters, got me to a chain of 39. I’m about to reach the pivotal moment of chain 40. Hopefully I get my Shiny Shinx🥺
Shiny Shinx was obtained and I had a considerably easier time continuing the chain by catching a few every few encounters!
you the man, man! I just caught my first shiny ever this way! So happy
Oh my gosh, after almost a week of trying, I finally decide to try catching chain Pokémon for the 10% boost of continuing my chain, and I finally got not 1 but 2 shiny buizle!!! Thank you so very much!! Trying to a shiny starly.
i ran into a pink sneasel on random, random critical hit..................
+dsahgkg the same happened to me with a blue medicham
kawaii kat sneasel are hard to find.
i'd never attack a shiny pokemon i find, i'd just chuck balls at it
Zan99 i only does it to randomly encounter women ^^
dsahgkg lol
I have that same mountain dew shirt xD i wearing it now in fact!
Really great guide, thank you!
Thank you! This really helped! I
Hope to get my shiny Ralts soon!
I was trying to be clever by saving after every five in a chain but it ended up not working
I just messed up my chain of 40 on a ralts, that was the fifth try just today.
Unbelievable how helpful this was!
Thanks for the guide! I got a shiny Bidoof today.
Hey! Starly's are Beautiful!
The only shiny I ever found (excluding Red Gyarados) was a golden Sandslash in Crystal many years ago. It was a hell of a find, and was completely random.
I found a shiny wurmple in my omega ruby nuzlock
Nintendo_penguin :3 Cool. I recently caught a golden geodude, lol! It's evolved into a gold graveler since, but I can't evolve it to a Gold Golem.
I just found geodude shiny. Thats why i am here :)
unfortunatley, golem's shiny is brown ;-;
i found shiny graveler randomly FUCK YOU SELF DESTRUCT
The video I discovered my favorite UA-camr from!
Thx man your really helping me shiny hunt now :)
wtf dude, i was at 40 ( its on video) and i pressed the Y button to see the shaking grass and it ended my chain and said (the grassy patch remained quiet...)
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!
When you hit 40 chains, you're not supposed to go into any patch of shaking grass if it isn't shiny. If you didn't see shiny patches of grass, reset the poke radar and use it again until you see one.
+da Potato you obviously didnt get what i said. i realized i saw the video again that i filmed when i broke the chain , i reset the radar when i was on the side (next to a tree) which breaks the chain
@@grainoffriedricehd6380
Probably late, but resetting the radar on the edge of the grass may break the chain, it' s pretty rare but it can happen.
Try avoiding that option as much as you can next time
I still have no idea how to chain
Who really does though?
same! i still cant understand
The chaining is simple its just the same pokemon over and over till you get da shiny and I dont even have a poketracker :'(
I used to hit chain of 70 back then
@@masoudshairzadeh6820 relly I still play today
While follow this guide. I found my first shiny bidoof in chain 3! In pokemon platinum! Thankyou for the guide! Even I did couple retry 😄
Even this video is from years ago I just wanna say thank you so much I was clueless on how to find a shiny and I did what you said and got myself a shiny starly
Yesterday at a chain of 32 I hit shiny Bagon, today at 29 I hit shiny Tyrogue, what are these odds lol.
By the way, the "random chain break" that you explained at 5:38 was not random at all. The patch you walked in was a 'loner patch' because it had no patches near it in the third quadrant from your character (meaning, if you drew four quadrants around your character where your character is the origin, that loner patch appeared in quadrant 3 without any other patches appearing in the same quadrant)... Loner patches have around I think a 90% success rate, so you were just unlucky. However if you're careful and also avoid loner patches, that rises to over 98% success rate.
Clumping is the same. If ALL of your patches are in the same quadrant, but your 4-away still feels safe and not adjacent to anything, you still have that 90% instead of >98%.
Continuing your chain after the first shiny continues the chain, but the probability of finding a shiny resets. So, your next shiny will most probably be found once that chain hits 80.
I doubt this comment will be useful to you since you made this video over two years ago, but here you go anyway lol
Nice tutorial, really onpoint, clear, and everything you said was true when it came to my experience of shiny hunting. :)
Eh I got shiny smeargle after a chain of 9 lol
lucky one of my took like 3 hours to get the shiny patch
In 4th Gen, you could get as many shinies as you wanted from a 40 chain as long as you don't break it.
I got bagon with a chain of 9
If you are playing on an emulator such as desmume you can save states to conserve your chains and also it seems to me that going for the same type of patch farthest away from you works better for me idk why
The farther the patch, the better.
Great video, this got me my shiny Shinx at a chain of 14!
9:30, isn't it a song of the Kirby games? Cool version of it, wow. 😁
And thanks for the informative video, very helpful! 👍🏻
i was chaining for a shiny nidoran female and a fucking starly broke my chain!!
I just need to find my cartrige...
this i gonna be helpful. i just got a copy of platinum and i cant wait to start using this method. im gonna follow the instructions closely since i def want that shiny starly.
Thanks for the help!
is it 4 steps away or the ring from 4 steps away?
Tobias Van Hulzen i ThinkCentre The ring
Does anybody miss videos like this??? Creators now just aren’t the same...
I know this comment is 3 yrs old but i feel this so much, I miss the camcorder pointing at a DS youtube days dearly
new content is much higher quality but there's so much charm in old pokémon videos
Yo, thanks for the tutorial. Helped a lot.
Thank you soo much for this! just got my first ever chaining shiny today because of this! I've binged so many of your videos the last few weeks, and you have such genuine, and down to earth content, and i've spent hours watching it :) thankyou!
I caught a shiny starly in that same patch during my first couple of days or so I ever EV trained, it was about a few weeks or maybe even a month ago. I was EV training two eevees (the irony is strong) one to become espeon and the other umbreon. That shiny staly is now a staraptor an is basically just my trasportation.
That was the first shiny I got and it was on a 3 chain dude I was so happy because I was on my way to Florida with my fam and it was in that exact patch
Elijah FireStorm I wasn't using the pokeradar cause I didn't think to use it at the time cause I didn't know about the chain thing
Nothing about that is ironic
I found a shiny Bidoof in that same bush accidently. What are the changes of that ?
+Banaanipässi FIN 1/8192 :)
3xScArFaCex3 Thank you :)
1/8192 is the chance that the pokemon you encounter is shiny, but what is the chance of finding a SHINY BIDOOF in that area?
Actually, this has been one of the most helpful alongside a creator named Oshee. I’ve been chaining a starly right alongside your vid and so far I got to 10. Wish me luck I. My first ever gen 4 hunt. I figure starly is a nice, safe first try.
It is sometimes easier depending on the place. Some places like Route 228 in Platinum are much easier to see in the daytime, but most other patches appear better at night.
Also, thanks! I love those games.
YES YES YES!!!!!FINALLY GOT A MACHOKE CHAIN OF 1!!!!!!!!!!WHEW! MY LIFE DREAM IS COMPLETE!!!!!*!!*!
Congrats, man!!! :D
My first was actually a Machop at a chain of one after spending hours chaining with no luck.
Thx the first patch of shaking grass I went into was a shiny patch
*****
My first ever shiny was an Abra all the way back in the original Pokemon Gold.
I hacked and hatched a level 1 shiny shaymin
Grant Johnson first shiny was a shiny charmander at the start of my first fire red playthrough
I'm just gonna watch this a million times until I get the instructions I just can't understand
same
Woow, it's actually quite simple! o-o
Thankss!! :DDDD
About 11-12 years ago, I chained Ralts, and actually found two shinies. My goal was a shiny Gallade, but disappointingly they were both female. Chain broke at 62, so I became frustrated and didn't try again. Today, after having watched your video, I decided to give it another go. I slowly increased my chain, eventually reaching 40. Went for a long time resetting, using many Max Repels, but finally I saw a shiny patch. And it was a male! After catching it, I continued resetting to look for more shinies, and actually found five more (six total shiny Ralts; four males and two females total) before the chain broke due to me forgetting to use repel.
I will probably hunt for Budew or Shinx next, as I never attempted those back when I was a kid. So far, my chained shinies from my childhood days were Starly (now a Staraptor in Alpha Sapphire), Nosepass (a Probopass in AS), two Ralts (Gardevoirs in AS) and Wurmple (a Beautifly in AS now).
I have a shiny Ekans in FireRed and I found it out of nowhere.
The best shinies are the ones you least expect.
Oscar124 same but with a pigeotto, I was training my pokemons and accidentally get in the grass

Love how this aged, bet you were surprised when you found out that this returned in X&Y, you had perfect timing on this video.
In my y, I found a shiny patch with abra. I chucked a ball. Teleport.
Try using a Pokemon with shadow tag as its ability( wobbuffet works for me.)
Leanne Hetherington I reclaimed like 4 shinies later using a wobbuffet
Blackhawk351 cool!
You should of used nest balls
I caught a shiny lombre without chaining at all, and then my ds froze. Worst day of my life.

I got a shiny Suicune 6 times! 5 times I have failed..... :/
Shealyn L looks like the nds know that you find one
Thank you. Awesome guide. Better start chaining. I've actully seen this video a couple of times while I was chaining to make sure I didn't do anything wrong. At one point I was chaining starly when it was interupted... BY A SHINY SENTRET! I just flew up from my chair. But Again thank you awesome guide
