One of the highlights of my trip to the Philippines has been becoming proficient in riding a scooter on Panglao Island. Back in Australia I never rode a bike only driving a car. Panglao is great riding a scooter as the concrete roads are good and the traffic is not too bad. However you must read everything 100% of the time. Similar to what happened to Matt I see all the time. They cut diagonally across in front of you to access a property on your right side. Also motor vehicles of all sizes pull out without warning and of course the dogs. 90% of dogs are fine but occasionally they cut in front of you so you must almost guess what everyone (Cars, trucks, buses, people, dogs) are doing before they do it. I hope Matt is riding soon.
Your right about the dogs. 1 million bites a year. About 370 deaths Due to Rabies 10,000 Strays with Rabies. Rabies always Fatal, once Symptoms present. World wide, 35,000 Deaths Caused by Dogs. A little suggestion here. Please wear that better Helmet when you make those short trips as well. Most accidents people get into are within a very close proximity to where one Lives. These are statistical facts. You are not always safer near where you live. I lost 2 Friends on the same Road within a mile to where they lived. Good Luck to you
I had a slow speed scooter accident about 3 months ago, and initially just had aches and pain to my left arm and leg. I thought nothing of it as I slowly got better, minus dull pain in my leg. The pain turned to numbness in my foot and toes, as he described. Went for an MRI last month, and it turns out I have a herniated disc in my lower back. It's pressing on the nerve branch and causing my foot and toes to go numb. Waiting to schedule surgery here in NY. Hope he gets that checked out, it could be serious.
Great interview. He seems like a great guy. I especially like the part where he ready and able to pay the medical bill. More expats need to be like this guy mentally and financially balanced. Not like your other expat you interviewed who couldn't afford quality medical. He went to a province witch doctor 😂😂
I ride a Honda CRF450RL and have had a similar accident as Matt on a Yamaha WR250R. An impact on a bike is so violent and it really really really matters what kind of gear you have on. A helmet will save your life and gloves will save the meat on your hand. I love riding a bike and it really helps to drive paranoid. Always assume the other guy is going to pull out in front of you and bleed off some speed like Matt did.
I ride a 125 Honda Click here in Cebu. I love it. But I cannot get above 20 kph because someone on a vehicle or a pedestrian will step in front of me. I actually hit a lady who walked in front of me looking the other way. I barely tapped her, but I was going slow enough to stop. Nice to ride in the mountains where no people are.
@@TERMICOBRA I park my bike outside in the street. No problem. There is no organized crime like in the US. There in Arizona if my car or bike was stolen, it was across the border before the day is over. I have been here nine years and I have yet to see any violent crime. People here will scam you through some misunderstanding or outright lie if you are dumb enough to believe them. They will rob you too if you are not there. And I have been dumb enough to believe them. I had two motorcycles stolen in the US over forty years. Here in nine years nothing has been stolen.
I don't want all the issues, expenses and possiblity of getting really injured by driving a motorbike in the Phillippines or Thailand which are extremely dangerous countries in terms of motorbike accidents. I want to live in a place where I don't need to drive and just use public transportation or taxis.
I had a wild ride with a trike driver demolition style other trike drive had a road rage 😂 I got off from the trike and let them fight 😂 I didn't understand what they were saying at each other screaming 😂
Mind boggling how they pay a Disability payment overseas like that. My wife’s mother was hit by a motorbike years ago & she is still having bad pains because of the accident. Seen some horrendous accidents with trikes too.
How could the other driver not see Matt even as he was in the turn? Interesting how the police asked Matt if he wanted to help pay for the local gentlemen's motorbike, but not the other way around. Insurance is supposed to be mandatory, so the police should start ticketing drivers without insurance and drivers licenses for that matter as well. Glad that the accident was not more serious that it already was. Good for Matt for wanting to get back riding.
Matt is a fortunate man. I heard Satety Wink looked it up n alot of bad reviews. What you think Mark ? Also what was the company you spoke the English for when you got there ?
Don’t you have to have bike insurance?Someone else causes an accident and you have to pay the bill? What if the bike or better yet your body gets totaled?
Trust me.. When I was finally being allowed to leave, it wasn't a fun ride the last 1 hour and 15 min. 😳 After that, I had to wait for 2 hours, and then 4 hours ferry ride..😳 It was tough..❤️
He is a nice gentleman, positive attitude and outlook. Thanks God you are safe and take care bro!
Thank you very much ❤
I like the wall decor with grass.
Nice story., Welcome to CdO! 😊
What a good man... smart and kind.. sir, I wish you the best, and you keep living and loving and spreading kindness.
Thank you very much 🙏❤️ I'll do my best ❤️

Glad to see Matt is recovering from his accident. That is the one thing about motorcycles & scooters - no protection from the fall in an accident.

I totally agree with you ❤ We SHOULD wear proper helmet ALL the time ❤
Antonio you are 💯 correct. Thank you for reminding us
Very personable man. Enjoyed his story. I'll go check out his channel.
Thank you very much ❤
Thank you for watching ☺️
Great interviewee & interview! Mundane Mark 😂 good job

Ofcause I was ready to do that - I'm just a guest here, and guests should act properly ❤
@@arealgoodfeeling633 you represented Denmark very well. I wish us Americans would follow your’ “I am a guest” advice.

@@IB4U2Cme Hi Charles. Do you feel safe leaving your Honda parked in the city when you're out and about? Is bike theft rare/common in most places?
Good advice 👍

I surely regret not to have had driving gloves.. 😞 And real driving boots would also be a good thing 🙏❤️
Great interview Mark and good advice about wearing a REAL helmet! Hope your viewers here reevaluate how much their head and face is worth
I'm for SURE happy that I had a real helmet on ❤
Be careful in driving sir.hmm there are many reckless drivers here.
I know, and I am usually very carefull - And I was still lucky ❤
Always wear a helmet, I do.

Matt, one should have a dash-cam on motorbike or car, don't you think?
I would surely be a great idea ❤️ If there was any doubt, then you had it on the cam 😊
Yes. Good suggestion

Even the Spanish conquistadors they like the island 🏝️ they even name the island 🏝️ Negros because of the black native living there.
Take care
Don’t you have to have bike insurance?Someone else causes an accident and you have to pay the bill? What if the bike or better yet your body gets totaled?
Insurance is automatically added on when you register your vehicle.
Matt could have collected damages if the old man's bike was registered
Sorry to hear that happened and so far from home. Must have been a shaky trip back home on the ferry. Good luck to him.

This is why I stopped driving a motorcycle.
i may have to get training wheels lol
What's the city Matt is living in?
I'm Living in Bagacay - A part of Dumaguete ❤
How is Sebastian doing how's that poor guy 😢
He has his second surgery tomorrow Friday
You ride and not “Drive bikes”
Totally correct ❤
