Okay, after I watched this masterpiece and was blown away and watched it a second time just 20 minutes later. Then I told everybode around me to also watch it and I searched for ohter reaction on youtube, the fucking irony, he makes me part of his joke, this lovely bastard. But of all the analysis' I've watched right now, yours is the best! You put so much in you 8minutes and I think, Bo would love your comment on it, if he ever sees it. Well done, mate! Very good analysis!
This is the best review of Inside I've seen/heard. And I've watched a LOT of reviews. I've seen Inside like 20 times now and it never fails to grip me and take me on that creative journey that Bo created. Now that's real art if you ask me :)
Yep that's the word. Hyper reality. I've been obsessed with this special as soon as i watched it and I've been clumsily making sense of it through "internet is fake, meaningless things seem to be taking over peoples lives because everyone is being performative". But "hyper-reality" is that concept in one word. Really good analysis overall.
I found his special comforting, in a way that somebody actually said it. what a lot of us have been feeling/thinking but is kinda scary to put out there. i still cant stop thinking how i chuckled at his song funny feeling, where he described dissociation briefly, and it oddly felt comforting
This is one of those quality videos that often goes unnoticed while other generalized popular crap gets views. Connecting hyperreality with Inside is a great thought and im grateful for you shining a light on that concept and showing us how Bo demonstrates it
It’s funny that you talk about apathy with that funny feeling since 2 songs before it is welcome to the internet where one of the lines is literally “apathy’s a tragedy.” We aren’t apathetic enough for the internet but too apathetic for the real world I think rly, we’re all just kinda numb to it all. We could be mildly entertained by anything but thought filled by almost nothing and we have to try and break out of that. Anyways yeah same I really enjoyed the show and felt similarly after watching it as you did
Thank you for this. A lot of videos have focused on the pain. I feel that, but there is also a joy every time I watch Inside. But I couldn’t explain why. There’s a big stupid grin on my face every time I get to the end. The shot of Bo smiling at the projection. Just him looking satisfied with what he made. Your video really helped me understand my feelings toward the special. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching, I'm so happy this video connected with you. I definitely felt weird for feeling happy after seeing this special, so I had to get my thoughts out asap. Glad I'm not alone!
thank you for this video essay. You captured that odd comfort/happiness so well. Reality is so bonkers and you can either fall into existential dread or laugh at the absurdity of it all. I certainly had both reactions after watching inside!
Wow man! That was spot on analysis. I loved inside. It shook me to the core.It didn't let me sleep and the songs are stuck in my head. I would say this is the defination of amazing art.
I really like this analysis and really enjoyed the special. I was amazed when I found out that the lumix camera he uses is only 3 thousand dollars. It sounds like a lot but compare that to the RED cameras Netflix usually uses, it’s a bargain.
Totally, I was amazed too. Not the highest end camera in the industry, but he used it so well! Goes to show that you don't always need a million dollars of equipment to make good art.
I'm glad you spent a year to make videos in your room, you have plenty of achievment to celebrate ! Thanks for that essay, I put Bo's show on my watch list because of your video ! Make me feel stronger about the link between constraint and inspiration 😉
Just got done watching and now fully understand why you had to make a video about it. You're right on the money with "the absurdity is oddly freeing". The realness and cynicism play over a backdrop of goofs and mesmerizing visuals, inviting you to engage in a world of disengagement. Haven't watched anything that made me feel so strongly in a while.
Yes yes yes. Exactly!! Spectacular feedback. This special is inspirational and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched…for the best it’s probably embarrassing! 😕
Great video man!! I really loved Bo's new special - extremely heavy and hard-hitting, but something that I'm glad I watched. I absolutely love how much he was able to accomplish in one room, and although it wasn't necessarily a surprise, as he's made incredible specials before and the film Eighth Grade, which is excellent, it's still a masterpiece in its own right. You make a great point about how Bo inspires with this special and shows what is possible with one person, and it's definitely something that has made me think about filmmaking in a new way, with that being that it's actually possible. This is an awesome video and definitely one of my favorites that you have made!!! Keep it up!
Watch _Jonas Čeika - CCK Philosophy_ videos on Baudrillard, one on The Matrix and another on American Psycho, -through the lens of his work. They're interesting.
I didn't understand the unsettling clip where he thanks his viewers for watching his content holding a knife, it really worried me and I can't seem to find an explanation for it. Could you please explain it? 😔
He is referencing a famous youtuber, whose name I forgot, but he takes him as methaphor for all other content creators of youtube. All those guys and girls, in the end of the videos, ASKING their audiences to SUBCRIBE and pls LIKE the video, which is kind of aggressiv sometimes, as if the content creator is threatening or commanding their audiences. Bo points that out with the knife, the aggressiveness and also it is another example of how fucked up our social connections through the internet are and well, how some youtubers might have some god komplex psycho shit going on, espacially if theire became very famous... you don't want to lose that.. the angst of those wo made it..
That scene was like a horror movie scene. It really freaked me out. So unsetting. I really felt intimitaded and like he was going to stab me at any moment. Also i was literaly scared that he was going to cut himself on screen. a "funny feeling" indeed.
@@axdxdos That's also possible, I mean, in the end he critizes the behavior many youtuber have. But in another discussion, someone named the specific youtuber and I watched one video of his and the simalarity was undoubtful and the camera angle he uses was very similar; I will search my history...
For me, Bo Burnham's inside is alright. Around half songs he played are catchy and I would definitely put them in my music playlist. But the segments with no music, I feel are uninteresting or pointless. I had a better time watching what. and make happy than Inside. Everyone else seem to love this film... is there something wrong with me?
Art is subjective. Nothing wrong with you if you didn't like it. I loved this film (It's a top 5 for me), but that doesn't mean you're wrong for not liking or "getting" it. Don't feel guilty for having different tastes. The thing about this film is that it's not meant to just be a comedy special. It explores and satirizes today's online experience, especially for the many of us who had that experience intensified by the forced isolation of this past year. It accurately portrays and expresses the mental health struggles many of us are going through, and it does so with brilliant film making techniques. I could sit here and discuss a lot of reasons why I think it's a great film... but again, art is subjective. If you didn't resonate with the darker stuff in this film, then that's fine.
It’s not fun, exactly, so if that’s what you were looking for (or expecting) I can imagine it wouldn’t resonate. Me, I loved every second. He makes you laugh about things that aren’t at all funny, and makes that laughter feel defiant and tragic. Like it’s all so pointless and so necessary, all at once. It wasn’t a good time. But it was cathartic. Sometimes it’s nice to see the absolutely absurd madness all around us acknowledged.
I did not really like his new special as much as his old specials. This new one feels too depressing and not as funny. The only two parts I liked were the socko song, and Welcome To The Internet. Maybe I need to watch it another time to understand it better, but it just wasn't what I was expecting
I really feel like I enjoyed it more watching a second time. You shouln't go into it expecting a comedy show but more like an artistic film exploring one man's thoughts and struggles. There's a lot of meaning behind his jokes and commentary on isolation, disassociation, mental health, internet culture, capitalism etc. that can be hard to grasp on a first viewing
Update: All songs are now on Spotify!
Yes! It's been a regular in my album rotation since they added it😊
I can see why it would depress people, but as someone who has been depressed for years and suffers from panic attacks, this special oddly calms me.
That makes sense, it's always special to see a part of yourself reflected in another's art.
Me after watching the special: “wow there were a lot of layers to that!”
Also me: “ CEO entrepreneur, born in 1964! Jeffrey, Jeffrey Bezos!”
Like an onion
There are layers to that song, too. Especially in combination with Unpaid Intern
it's so catchy i could sing it perectly in my head
@@lordbuddybear and now it’s on Amazon Music lol
Well, that song really slaps.. but then again, a lot of them do.. got all these songs stuck in my mind for weeks now.. AAAAAAHH!!
Watched it last night and it was brilliant. Can't stop thinking about it.
Same! As soon as I watched it I had to write about it.
Yeah I’m on my fourth viewing. I’m totally with you about wanting it on Spotify.
I've watched allot of youtube vids on Inside. But this one is my favorite so far.

i’m happy i’m not the only one who got Father John Misty vibes from him in this special😅

I enjoyed his special, but I must admit that I find life even without the internet absurd and to me it just seems like an extension of the rest.
Agreed, it's always been absurd. I think that's exciting tbh
is there a 1080p version of the thumbnail anywhere?
