I've binged watch on your films and I have to say your style of shooting is exactly how I want to aspire to be. I've been fortunate enough to have already traveled to beautiful places in the world and my only regret is that I never captured it on video. After many nights of contemplating I've actually decided to go with the GH5 and Ninja Inferno largely thanks to you. My only ask is that you release a course for color grading and correction and your overall workflow in post! I would pay decent money for that! Thank you for the inspiration!
Welp, I'm sold. Been contemplating and watching all types of videos and yours just pushed me off the cliff. Good bye all my money. Beautiful shots. Great description. Thanks for taking the time.
After watching your video, I'm not only happy about my decision to get the GH5, but I also plan on picking up the Atmos Ninja Inferno based on your experience and advice. Thank you for sharing your beautiful footage. It's absolutely stunning.
Great video man....very informative, straight to the point, amazing quality, and was able to watch the entire thing and not fast forward...SUBSCRIBED!!
Hi, love your reviews on both of the camera and the ninja inferno products. Can please do tutorials on cinematography. Some of the footage you showed during the review just mind blowing. Thank you very much.
I have the exact same GH5, Crane setup and am looking at a monitor to add. Are there any audio latency issues when connecting the monitor. I bought a SmallHD and the audio latency is poor and makes it hard filming people talking. I was recommended the Ninja V
Hi Jonathan I have recently bought GH5 and Ninga 5. Looking for a rig. I know you have small rig but you are using a shape rig. Any idea how they compare and what the pros and cons are. Kind regards John
Beautiful shots. I have two Gh5's both paired with the ninja infernos. I have constant issues with the inferno skipping during recording. I use the correct cable and hard drive, and sometimes even skips if left alone on a tripod. Have you experienced this?
Great video. I have a GH5 and a GH5S, and I've been looking at the Ninja V. Dumb question. How do you transfer footage recorded on the Atomos to a Mac? I cannot find this info anywhere. Thanks
Shark what I mean is that dependong on the shoot I will either (ideally) have a sound recordist with me if possible or record audio via a lav mic or shotgun placed close to the sound source.
Thats what I thought. I've just got my inferno and want to record sound. I think I will get wireless mics for interviews or use a shotgun mic placed close to the sound source like you have pointed out. Or when I shoot my feature I would hope to work with a sound person.
Sean Olesiuk sorry I can't make a recommendation, it's a personal preference depending on lots of different variables. Both good lenses with their own pros and cons. You'll have to decide what works best for you.
Thanks for the video, I also own a GH5 and in my test the 6k footage looks the best because of the h265 codec (even better than the 422 10 bit 4k 30p internal) I was wondering if the atomos ninja can shot in this mode, also if it can shot anamorphic 4k 60p?
Jenny FTOL have a look on my channel, think there may be one or two. I change my technique depending on the project I'm working on. Typically use Davinci Resolve for larger projects and Lumetri within PP for quicker turn rounds. Also, not much of a grade on this as it was shot in beautiful natural light.
Still...the EVA1 would be a beast of a camera with the Inferno. I've seen a lot of budget filmographers shoot with the GH5 because it's simply a great compact powerhouse. I agree, if you have a GH5 or similar, the Inferno is a smart decision if you need it. By the way, why 1920 x 810 and not 800, 817, or 818? Following the RED standard?
Awesome review mate. May I know do you encounter any fan noise issue? Besides, since Atomos is releasing a new 5” Ninja V that has the same features as Ninja Inferno, would you still pick the Ninja Inferno over Ninja V? Wanted to get a monitor but can’t decide which to get. Hope can get some advices and help from you. Good day!
Hello there, I was wondering. How does shooting at 60fps but exporting at 24fps affect video and audio syncing. In my case I would capture video with the camera and audio with an audio interface connected to a computer. Will I run into syncing issues?
Great video, exactly what I was looking for too. How do you find the quality of you high frame rate (120-180fps) when recorded externally vs internally?
MT_09_09 thank you, lenses used are Panasonic 12-60, lots of different Canon L lenses, GH5 is shooting with a custom version of cine D profile. Hope that helps.
Hi, I am shooting with a Panasonic GH5 camera and a X 2 Anamorphic projection lens. When I shoot in 24p with the GH5 the Atomos Ninja Inferno allows me to de-squeeze image with 2 X 4:3 option. But when I shoot in 4K 60p with the GH5 the Ninja Inferno does not have 2 X 4:3 option. Selecting manual mode on my GH5 seems to allow correct de-squeeze aspect ratio for 4K 60p, but there is clearly light & image quality loss shooting in ‘M’ manual mode, as apposed to shooting in Movie mode on GH5, which has mode specific to shooting with an Anamorphic lens. I have latest V8.5 firmware, so update didn’t solve this problem. Any ideas why this is?
we bought gh5 for the reason that we wanna use 10bit footage .. but if we still need to buy another product for that.. better go with the bmpcc 4k which shoots 12bit raw at a lower price ..
Mo Khayat because they are different cameras, it's down to personal preference, I use the GH5 a lot without external recorders as well and as a filmmaker who travels a lot the GH5 works well in a lot of these type of scenarios due to its size, but I use a lot of other cameras depending on the job.
Tyler Johnson if your using the GH5 it doesn't output 120fps over hdmi. As far as I know there are no mirrorless cameras that do, you need to move to some like Sony fs5 or fs7. As for how to set up the atomos, I don't have a unit to hand so I'd try googling.
Hello Jonathan... Sorry to bother you again... I just spent £150 on a new lead and still can't get 4K 60 10 bit... Do you have to have V log to achieve this? I understood V log was for Vlogging... which I don't really care about...

I have a GH5 and I've just got myself a Ninja Inferno.. For the life of me I cannot see how to record 4K 60p 4.22 10 bit.. Firmware is up to date on both.. I'm a novice so perhaps its just that I'm stupid.. What settings do you use and how do you achieve 4K 60p 4.22 10 bit?
Hello Jonathan... Yes I Have 4K 3840x2160.. 29.97p/10 bit/ Long GOP 150 Mbps LPCM in MOV (I've tried other 4K 10 bit modes too), and in HDMI output I've changed the setting in 4K/60p bit mode from 422 8 bit to 422 10 bit.. which then gives a message saying it can only record 10 bit externally.. The Atomos is in REC 709.. DNxHR and in the top right hand corner of the Atomos (input) 4KUHDp29.97.. Should it have 4K 60p? As a novice I can't help having the feeling it's something stupid I've missed.. Also to delete files on the Atomos is the only delete option to format the drive and not individual files?
Paul Dunham there is a setup video on UA-cam by Atomos, try following that. Only other thing is are you using a HDMI 2.0 cable, you need that as anything less can't do a 60p signal.
Yep... that's the video guide I used... I'm using Atomos cables too.. As I said its probably something stupid beginners do.. Thank you for all your help.. I'm sure I'll work it out in the end... If I get it right will 4K 60p appear on the recorder?
Which arm you use, and if its as stable in use as it looks in the video. I'm basically looking to replicate your exact setup, and that is the only piece I'm missing! Thanks for the great video, very inspiring.
Hi Jonathan - great video some beautiful shots there! Quick question on shooting handheld on longer lenses such as the 70-200 via the metabones. Do you have to adjust the IBIS focal length setting in the camera as you change the focal length of the lens and how do you calculate this taking into account the change in focal length created by the metabones? Many thanks 😎
The metabones seems to recognise it's a zoom lens and adjusts accordingly. The 70-200 is particularly stable, more so than for example the 24-105 at comparable focal lengths.
Jonathan J Scott Films thanks for reply that’s interesting I’m using the sigma 18-35 on the metabones but haven’t risked the ibis much as it seemed to overcompensate looking to get the 70-200 in the future so good to know! Keep up the great work

Zhiyun Crane 2 or V2. Good cranes!

Driftwood Project the camera will record internally at 120/180 etc but the limitation of hdmi out is 60p regardless of resolution

what about 10bit 1080 fps 1080 in the inferno?
Tyler Johnson do you mean 180fps? If so it won't record it as I'm pretty sure the atomos is limited to 120fps in 1080.
How do you setup Inferno to record 120fps then?
Tyler Johnson if your using the GH5 it doesn't output 120fps over hdmi. As far as I know there are no mirrorless cameras that do, you need to move to some like Sony fs5 or fs7. As for how to set up the atomos, I don't have a unit to hand so I'd try googling.
