Hi, got the same utv. Just done a near full rebuild. Engine start and runs perfect, gears and clutchs perfect, BUT at high RPM, it coughing, sputtering/backfiring and no power. Was the bet its the CAM. I did measure the CAM when out and it was around 31.4mm, I know it's meant to be around 34+mm... Is this most likely a CAM issues
Sounds like it to me. This machine done the same thing. The customer kept driving it until you couldn’t accelerate past a quarter throttle but it still idle perfectly. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Loss of power. Went to check the valve lashes and noticed they was way off. So that made me look towards the cam. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@crankitt825 hey thanks for responding, appreciate it. I'm working on a Honda Rincon 680, looks like the same engine- I put a new fuel pump on there , fresh gas, new plug, cleaned injector, cleaned so.e sensors, when I ran the diag came back codes 12 and 29 which I think is injector circuit and not sure what 29 is(can't find nothing online), but I d8d get er running much better she won't go over 25 and when I rev it past quarter throttle she spits and pops from intake- before I go tearing into it any further... if you don't mind sharing- does that sound like a worn exhaust valve or is there something you would try before the cam here? I'm reading a lot about these things prone to cam failure?? Thank you very much
hi, I would check next is the valve clearance. When the engine is cold. Set the valve clearance for intake valve 0.006 inch (0.15mm) exhaust valve 0.013 inch (0.33mm). Hope that helps you out.
@crankitt825 yeah, sorry, meant to mention that- I've checked and set to that spec twice to be sure on power stroke. They were loose at 1st i think.... thanks man

Could also be the silly seatbelt safety. Sounds dumb but make sure the seatbelt is on before you start the pioneer otherwise it will limit you to like 12mph.

Do you have to split the case to replace the chain?
You will need to take the side cover off as well and remove the flywheel to get access to timing chain. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe.

you can still see dust falling into the inlet tube when you remove /replace the injection
Sounds like it’s in limp mode. Check for engine codes to get an ideal what’s going on.
I agree definitely in limp mode. I don't see any engine lights on.

my pioneer 700 wont go over 10 mph and it sounds like a rev limiter its a 2014 year
