  • Unlocking the 'from the factory' disabled shift light in a 2004 Pontiac GTO. Many owners have already done this to their GTO's long ago so there is considerable past information already posted to the web. I simply did my research, followed the how-to, and got this feature turned on successfully. Many thanks goes out to all the people who contributed the knowledge to make this feature a possibility for the average guy to DIY.

    After a couple of weeks of usage, I put the cold operation shift point back to the stock 4,000rpm alert versus the 3K I originally set if for.

    Thank you for the video on how to do this, I didn't even know this was a thing!? You made it look easy but I would never be able to do this and I build race engines and am a full time mechanic for the past 30 years. Do you live in the Northeast? I would pay you to do the shifter light mode for me! In regards to your other video, are you enjoying the short shifter?

      I would never have been able to do this either, just following along with what is documented online from years past. I did have some hiccups along the way but did get it done with some persistence. I'm too far from the NE, but I would recommend joining a forum like LS1GTO, there may be someone in your immediate area that could do it for you. It is a really neat feature once activated.

    I can’t find that forum with the step by step guide shown. I’m in ls1gto and all I get when I search is how to make the cable

      There is a link to it in the first post in the VZ cluster mod thread on that site.

      No, the shift light does not function whatsoever unless programmed on.

    • @diymakerdan
      @diymakerdan  2 роки тому

      @@NascarDre You will need to search for a FTDI TTL RS232RL Serial to USB cable. It MUST be a 5v NOT a 3.3v. From what I have gathered not all cables are made the same and some may be misrepresented or utilize different chips in them thus affecting proper programming.

      That's another great alternative versus the DIY. Bohnman is an incredible source for GTO upgrades.

      Also from what I gathered the important thing is the baud rate (8192 I believe). I think mine was at 9600 which is why possibly I had to switch it to bench mode to get it to work.

      @@diymakerdan I am only able to connect in bench mode as well. Tried manually setting baud rate through cmd for my ALDL cable but unsure if it is operating at 8192 after I do that. Were you able to get it to connect incar mode?
