Eric Lee Piano sometimes lang lang plays a bit messy or muddies things down with pedal. he is a great pianist and showman, but sometimes the clarity is just not there. lang lang is not my cup of tea personally.
Franz Liszt was amazing. Lang Lang is the best of a generation and it's difficult even for him. The endurance it takes to play a song like this.... incredible. Love this performance.
Honestly I mean it’s very subjective but I think out of all versions I know Lang Lang’s is the best. Lisitza and Kissin also play it quite perfect but I got the feeling they’re a bit stressed or at least they play it like they were. Lang lang plays it like I play fucking “Für Elise” without any sense of being very concentrated but hits every note perfectly. And then the very fast passages he plays even faster but still so crystal clear like the last 30 secs are just light speed and I also love his mid section trill yea it’s only a trill but man that trill got fire. I think this -at least for me- is the best interpretation and best performance out there.
@@jonah0426 Well compared to guys like Franz Lizst, Frederic Chopin, Charles Alkan and Amedee Meureax, yep! He's a mortal. Liszt, for instance, could sight read some of Chopin's hardest pieces, WITHOUT EVER HEARING OR PRACTICING THEM BEFORE.

His interpretation is very unique and interesting, and his technical virtuosity is stellar. At my first hearing, I can certainly see why people love to listen to his work. WOW
this performance was so awe inspiring that i nearly forgot i had my mouth open three quarters through. seriously impressive piece played very well by Lang Lang. i could not contain my amazement and pure joy from seeing this recording
what is so insane about this performance is that the song itself is extremely difficult to learn for many pianists. it can take months and months to play this song through at proper tempo with minimal errors. but then on top of all of that, after all of that time and frustration just getting to that point, you then are tasked with learning to play it like THIS, which is a completely different beast. the true potential of this song cannot be expressed if it is played like a calculator spitting out numbers - even if no mistakes are made. Lang Lang here has not only reached the peak of the mountain, he has taken flight into the sky. bravo sir.
It's so funny how the general Lang Lang hate is picked up by almost every single "expert" in music on the internet. There are so many people talking about the interpretations of interpreters like Lang Lang in such a ridiculous way. You do not have to be as good as those people in playing the piano to say what you like and what you dislike, that is very true. BUT: You should still give credit to someone for playing on such a high level. And despite all possible interpretation-errors that all the critics might have witnessed, Lang Lang (eventhough I don't like most of his interpretations) is exceptional when it comes to technique. His style is (under the circumstances that it's not a pure show-off performance) absolutely flawless, his hands move beautifully and the technique is absolutely far beyond brilliant. Stating things like "Liszt would not have"...what the fuck? I wouldn't even take that comment if you had studied music and piano itself. Plus the chance that even 30% of people, posting those comments have probably close to no musical education, is pretty high. As I said: you do not have to be an expert to tell what sounds good to you and what doesn't. But then leave the level of criticism on the level that your knowledge about the topic is.
I think Liszt would appreciate Lang Lang's acrobatic technique more than anyone else. Lang Lang is giving a performance. If you detach the visual aspect from the sound, I don't think a lot of people would have such a problem.
Joseph Sonners only for his talent, surely. I don't know much about the personal life of anyone in the musical industry (apart from Mozart, I did a timed assessment on knowledge gathering from the internet back in school) but with such an expertise I can imagine a lot of women would have wanted him just to hear him play his music every day.
Without googling to corroborate that claim, I can say where I heard it, which was a lecture at college in a Classical Music History/Appreciation class. The analogy was he was the equivalent of a rockstar in his day. The professor (female) may have exaggerated a bit.
So many people don't realize how hard it is to even try this piece, but playing at this level is amazing. I still can't wrap my mind around how he has such perfect technique with his hands always perfectly above the keys with such grace and emotion in every measure! He is truly a great performer and inspires me to this day.
ik. my piano teacher who studied music and played piano for her whole life says that she is afraid of this attude. you have to play to octives with your right hand.
I mean WOW!!! This shows the level of achievement and intelligence our species is capable of. Not only to the writer of this amazing piece, and this gentleman that was able to play it, I give much gratitude for allowing my ears to hear it.
Dear Haters: This is the way Liszt is supposed to be played; over the top and flashy as hell. As a result of this style, Lang Lang probably do justice to other more relaxed composers' pieces, but for Franz Liszt? Definitely warranted.
Well, changing the score, smashing the piano keys and destroy the musical theme is the way Liszt is supposed to be played. Thanks, it seems playing Liszt will be much easier from now !
rémi L. Yeah pretty much, Liszt would play parts of his songs with one hand while looking at the audience, he was demonstrating skill over feeling and emotion. it's right to be a complete show off with his works, I mean if you're good enough to play them in the first place it's warranted
I look at his hands. And I think - this is probably the only musician who can be "listened to" even without sound, just looking at his hands. Probably the best Campanella. Franz Liszt also listens to Lang Lang with us and smiles :) Peace to all ❤❤

Haha wow this argument is so irrelevant to this video. ;-) I appreciate the support but I'm also not offended. If grammar is your thing then pounce on me all you want (some people may not want you to for them, but I'm fine with it). But I will say that there's been a longstanding debate about when to use "addictive" vs. "addicting" and most dictionaries qualify both as feasible in the same context. "Addicting" is the present participle adjective of "addict" but can be synonymous with "addictive." But again I'm not really passionate about which to use. And anyway I'm glad I got this notification for this debate because now I can listen to this video again. =) Have a great rest of the day, whoever happens to be reading this.

you may hate lang lang, but you can't argue against the fact that his technique is phenomenal and he can play anything at will, at superhuman speeds and accuracy... personally i like him. his performance of rach 3 movement 2 on an UPRIGHT piano in the street was what made me fall in love with that movement...
Eric Lee Piano I don’t care hat he plays on, as long as he plays, but the Steinway would be preferable!
Good technique? very funny. Maybe if he had good technique, he wouldn't be injured all of the time. For a real example of good technique, look at any video of Yuja Wang playing the piano. This is version of flight of the bumblebee that lang lang and his shitty technique would never be able to play at this tempo ua-cam.com/video/8alxBofd_eQ/v-deo.html
Good Technic but bad interpretation of the piece. So it is too mechanical
i dont think anyone is promoting particularly ill feelings towards him; they are simply making (uneducated) jokes out of his performance behavior and technique
Eric Lee Piano sometimes lang lang plays a bit messy or muddies things down with pedal. he is a great pianist and showman, but sometimes the clarity is just not there. lang lang is not my cup of tea personally.

I think this -at least for me- is the best interpretation and best performance out there.

what is so insane about this performance is that the song itself is extremely difficult to learn for many pianists. it can take months and months to play this song through at proper tempo with minimal errors.
but then on top of all of that, after all of that time and frustration just getting to that point, you then are tasked with learning to play it like THIS, which is a completely different beast. the true potential of this song cannot be expressed if it is played like a calculator spitting out numbers - even if no mistakes are made.
Lang Lang here has not only reached the peak of the mountain, he has taken flight into the sky. bravo sir.
I consider this to be the official La Campanella. No other performance has as much emotion and intensity expressed.
0:28 He was just like "that hand lotion works really well"
It's so funny how the general Lang Lang hate is picked up by almost every single "expert" in music on the internet.
If you detach the visual aspect from the sound, I don't think a lot of people would have such a problem.
luf4rall Liszt was all about showmanship as well. Women fawned and swooned over him.
Joseph Sonners Ok, thanks for the insight. Learn something new every day!

Dear Haters:
This is the way Liszt is supposed to be played; over the top and flashy as hell. As a result of this style, Lang Lang probably do justice to other more relaxed composers' pieces, but for Franz Liszt? Definitely warranted.
It is too fast but sometimes too showy
Bozhi Yang as mentioned, that's how it was intended by Liszt. He wa ted to show off, and that's what Lang Lang does here
