Hey love your videos. But also Adler is the Last name of Mystiques wife in the comics, Destiny, whose real name is Irene Adler. So, chances are that there was no real Dr. Adler.
You forgot to point out a small but noticeable detail. When Forge told Storm to get inside the machine she looked a bit panicked and nervous. Then right before she stepped in she gave out a huge breath before inhaling, when she stepped inside she began to nearly hyperventilate before the scene cut. It briefly yet subtly showed us her claustrophobia.
I just want to say I appreciate that instead of rushing your content out to be the first to recap, you took the time to really cover everything in the episode. Well done!
It really heartwarming to see jubilee shine in this episode, and showcase her powers as well given how she was shelved ,and in the xmen movie so happy to see her getting the recognition she deserves.
Honestly noone would care about her if she wasnt randomly put into the 90s cartoon. Her and Gambit were never as "big" of characters until then. While other much more important characters got ignored because they weren't in the cartoon! (Nightcrawler, Colossus, Emma Frost, Kitty Pryde, etc)
You completely forgot to mention how we see a different Jean in the opening. Until last week we saw Jean with her hair down. When the real Jean came, not only did she put her hair into a ponytail, but the Jean the intro now has her hair in a ponytail.... I was actually expecting this to happen in the intro and it totally did.

I'm *fine* with the X-Men being different 30 years later. What I have a problem with is them all being racial segregationist clones in the comics now.
the artwork on the game cartridge in the Motendo in Jubilee's room is actually a mash-up of the art from the Sega Genesis X-Men game and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse for the Super Nintendo
I think it was a copyright strike so they cut the offending material and reuploaded because a couple of minutes later hes talking about the arcade game like he had talked about it earlier.

Fun fact: According to the prequel comic series, it’s explained that Storm changed her hair to fit/blend in at a concert that Dazzler was performing at that was being held in honor of Prof. Xavier, and also to keep with the times as the new millennium was approaching.
😂 yes! Say can anyone tell me why magneto in this series even when his shields are up he still needs to block projectiles with metal? I saw this play out with Pryor and now with jubilee (even though it wasn’t the real magneto)
This episode was wild. From the homages to the Genesis, SNES and the OG Arcade X-men games, the crazy 16-bit video game-inspired soundtrack, and one of the most deranged versions of Mojo ever. Plus so many easter eggs from the intro to the show itself. So many easter eggs, I loved it. The only thing missing was "Welcome to Die!" from Magneto. On top of that we got the start of Lifedeath, which includes the Adversary and leads into the somewhat forgotten "Fall of the Mutants" storyline where everyone would believe the X-men were dead. I've also heard Marvel has already green-lit a third season. X-Men 97 continues to be one of the best things Marvel has produced in years.
It was 1000% clear that the demon has the same voice actress as Storm. Like, I thought that was the part of the plot. I haven't read those comics so I just presumed that it was some kind of Storm's dark side she needs to prevail.
This was another great episode! I loved seeing the beginning of the "LifeDeath" story for Strom, and I can't wait for part 2 of this mini-arc! I can already tell this emotional character exploration of Storm is going to be one of my favorite mini arcs in the entire X-Men animated series franchise by the time part 2 completes the story. The "Motendo" stuff was also super fun and creative! Revisiting some of the greatest highlights from this iteration of the X-Men in 16-Bit from like an old X-Men arcade game spotlighting their greatest moments was super cool and fun! I also loved having a Jubilee episode because she's one of my personal favorite members of the X-Men! Having it be her birthday was also a really nice way to explore how far she's come since episode 1 of the original series! I'm also really starting to warm up to Roberto. It's been nice to see the world of the X-Men through his eyes as a newcomer to this family. 👀🎆 Overall, X-Men 97 continues to be my favorite thing Marvel has made on Disney Plus! 8/10 episode this week! 🙌🏽🌟✨️
I have a feeling they wont go the comic book route with the Adversary cause that would be too much, Im expecting a similar approach to what they did with the Goblin Queen, its gonna be adapted but on a much smaller and contained scale to fit the show
I had immediately guessed they would use the original Jubilee voice. It just made way too much sense here. That said Jubilee's new voice actor is actually really good also. I'm glad the original got to feature in some way though.
Also I'm pretty sure "Rogue" is Xavier (the bald head a dead give away) Rogue wouldn't be introduced until several months after the Days of Future Past storyline.
It's intentional. It's a common tactic for UA-camrs to misattribute something so that people will comment on it and increase engagement. Dazzler also wasn't in Apocalypse. She was in the Dark Phoenix movie.
I think you might have missed when Jubilee and Abscissa made their final attack move is a reference to Naruto doing the rasen shuriken with his clone. 14:16
Also in opening credits Jean Grey goes back to having her hair tied back like in the original. Up til now in this X-men series she has been shown in the opening credits with her hair down as her clone wore it

I've always thought Jubilee was super lame(from TAS) but seeing what she really can do with her powers is really cool and I like the romance between her & Sunspot. A couple of Easter eggs you don't mention: - Thunderbird shows up on the Genosha scene. - The hand that grabs Jubilee and Sunspot looks a lot like final-boss Apocalypse's hand in X-Men vs Street Fighter - The Motendo is more like a mix between a Genesis and a SNES (look at the controller ports) - The extra life "X" simbol reminded me on the extra HP you get from Wasp and Quicksilver on Data East's Captain America and the Avengers. They also found it after breaking furniture, that makes it hilarious. The Bastion picture I thought it was actual Black Tom, a villian that "protected" Moira in Muir island and we see way back along Juggernaut in the original series (I think?). thank you for your videos! great work!
Bloody hell your perceptive, top marks on this exam paper, meanwhile I’m pausing & rewinding this vid & watching 97 twice over sure I’ve missed something it not sure what ?😂
You missed something I noticed that was delightful! Motendo Magneto follows the same pattern in this as he does in the Genesis game. He flies and throws junk at you, and he’s invincible when he’s flying. As soon as he lands, he’s vulnerable for a moment as his electro-shield comes down. This the pattern referenced by Jubilee, and the junk he throws around looks the same too!
Man, all I know is that this season has had absolutely BANGING art, especially in all the reality-manipulation scenes. The haunted mansion, Jean/Madelyne meeting of the minds, this Adversary stuff…there’s been a handful of “holy shit” moments.
I get Roberto not using his powers around NYC, but the instant he knows he's not there the fact that he's so hesitant to use them even to save his own life is annoying and completely illogical.
@@seewhativescene you are comparing the internet in 2024 with what existed in 1997. MySpace was still 8 years away, in 1997 people used dial up AOL. So no, I don't "understand now" because you are comparing two entirely different things in two entirely different contexts to be argumentative and dismissive.
Thanks for showing all the marc silvestri x-men art. Man. Biweekly releases. Those were the days. Old bald and arthritic me is smiling. Thanks screencrush.
When Magneto appeared in the video game, I really hoped he was going to say “I am Magneto, master of magnet!” I also was waiting for him to call Jubilee an “X-chicken” like in the arcade game.
Also X men did sort of have secondary segment or multiple storyline. This concept was ventured in the savage land saga as episodes that season featured scenes of xavier and magneto brought the savage land and find themselves on the run from Mr. sinister's mutates.
MISSED EASTER EGG when Forge says “I’m not building you a faster horse” it’s a nod to Henry Ford from when he built the model T. He said if he asked his customers what they were looking for in a car they would’ve told him they wanted a faster horse. It’s also part of the reason how the Mustang got its name.
Great breakdown! I completely missed OG Jubilee voicing the older version, nice catch! I guess this also confirms that 5 years have passed in show continuity as Jubilee mentions being 13 in the first season. I gotta say though, this episode didn't really work for me being split in two, especially in a 10 episode season. There wasn't anything bad, in fact the visuals and easter eggs were great but neither story got the time they needed. Jubilee living in the past has never been a substantial aspect of her character to this point in the show so that whole lesson didn't seem necessary and Sunspot wasn't really integral to that nor did he do or say much to advance his character, they didn't earn the kiss at the end at all so that fell pretty flat. This also meant the entire Storm/Forge relationship gets about 5 minutes of screen time and they just had to fly through what was an iconic arc in the comics. With Inferno last week being crazy rushed, the wasted Jubilee arc & the meat of Lifedeath's arc getting less than 10 minutes there are definitely pacing issues with this show. It's still awesome but it's not perfect.
A lot of these are a stretch to say they are an intentional reference to anything. The spiral drawing on Forge's wall is just some random technobabble artwork. If anything, it's a radial graph and that's all.
I'm 12 mins in, but I think the Dazzler call back is because of her place in the arcade game. She was a character that most of us kids hadn't ever seen before but she always seemed like a stand in for Jubilee who we all knew. It was something that many of us would talk about as kids, "OH the Jubilee one!" Since she mostly shot energy projectiles out during the game. It was a great callback.
Something I've noticed is that Black Panther exists in this universe and Forge is the second man to confess love to Storm. I'm just wondering if we'll ever see T'Challa in this series since the original showrunner promised cameos.
@@matthewhostetter8974 I have it on my Xbox 360. It used to be available through XBLA. It doesn't need a remake or an update or anything, because it is perfect as it is. Just a re-release. TBF, there are much better X-Men games, but this one is 6 player!
It’s funny how Hollywood keeps telling us to forget the past (The rise of skywalker , Dial of destiny, X-men 97…). But all they seem to do is make sequels & reboots.
I was really disappointed that video game Magneto didn't say "I am Magneto, master of magnet! Welcome to die! X-Chickens!" like in the classic Konami arcade game
Can't wait to start this series. I'm on season 4 of the original. I just have to ask, am I the only one who wonders why Rogue doesn't get one of those collars to take home to wear around home? I mean, she's been in one at least once, Gambit has been in a collar at least 3 times. The last time was when he was on Magneto's comet or whatever. (So far...) So if she wants to be able to touch, girl, take one! Or have any of the geniuses there at the school to make you one. So you can have your man and be able to enjoy hugging your friends.

What even is this series? Only 14 minutes to show fans 40 and younger that not only Jubilee doesn’t suck but has a very bright future ahead of her? MCU needs to keep 97’s writing team as the movie’s & whatever side stories/live action series they do on Disney +. They tell the X-Men stories the best & most receptive.
Totally forgot that Adversary was the cause of the X-Men dying in Dallas in the comics...I thought at first it was the Shadow King. The Outback X-Men are my favorite team b/c they were able to operate covertly...their return + conflict with X-Factor during Inferno in the comics was perfect IMO
Dazzler call out is because she's a playable character in the X-Men 6-player Arcade Game. That game is based on the "Pryde" pilot. So the comment is a snide comment how from that show to this one Dazzler got replaced by Jubilee.

Also X men did sort of have secondary segment or multiple storyline. This concept was ventured in the savage land saga as episodes that season featured scenes of xavier and magneto brought the savage land and find themselves on the run from Mr. sinister's mutates.
Thought it odd they didn’t make more of Storm’s Claustrophobia when in Forge’s machine. But they did have her take a deep breath before going in
Fun fact for Canadians here ~ the original voice actress for Jubilee is Loonette the Clown from The Big Comfy Couch!
Fun fact: Canadians need passports to join UA-cam and they're granted permission from Mounties on Mooseback
@@seewhativescenestop with the BS, this better not be true
14:20 also to advance in the Sega Game in the Mojoworld level, you had to physically reboot the Console with the Reset (white) button to win the level
The Adversary is real. Rewatch Forges eyes when Storm points out the owl. He looks away in shame.
If Storm's dark side would manifest, it would make more sense to manifest as the Shadow King, not as the Adversary.
Storm: I command you to release this child
Rogue: *casually walks in as if she just went from one room to the living room*
😂😂
A lot of these are a stretch to say they are an intentional reference to anything. The spiral drawing on Forge's wall is just some random technobabble artwork. If anything, it's a radial graph and that's all.
You ranting about this echoes Charlie from always Sunny going off on tangents
I'm 12 mins in, but I think the Dazzler call back is because of her place in the arcade game. She was a character that most of us kids hadn't ever seen before but she always seemed like a stand in for Jubilee who we all knew. It was something that many of us would talk about as kids, "OH the Jubilee one!" Since she mostly shot energy projectiles out during the game.
It was a great callback.
Love all of your content. Keep it up. After I watch many episodes of different things I come here for the Easter eggs. Love this channel.
That Sega Genesis game had a really awesome Mojo World level with a unique win requirement that took me way too long as a kid to figure out.
Wow, I’m amazed twice with Xmen 97, once while watching it and second watching your (deep cut) breakdowns! Amazing!!!
Something I've noticed is that Black Panther exists in this universe and Forge is the second man to confess love to Storm. I'm just wondering if we'll ever see T'Challa in this series since the original showrunner promised cameos.
So, X-Men Arcade is getting a re-release?
I would kill for an Updated version of the X-Men Arcade game, it's still my all favorite Arcade game and one of the best X-Men games of all time.
LMAO you watched that new Indy didn't you?:😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
DC usually does better in the animated shows but I think if that if Marvel rebooted the rest of 90’s shows, they will take the win this time.
At 5:54, is that not Wanda Maximoff between Quicksilver and Wolverine on the Days of Future Past wanted poster?
THANKS for this, Doug and Ryan!!!! Clarification: the posters were in the back of Wolverine *and Kate Pryde.*
FYI from a pharmacist about the sponsor: The sponsor is a red flag. Don't engage unless maybe you have tried everything else and you are desparate. And not even then.
Breakdown: No clinically significatn scientific evidence of efficacy and hiding behind proprietary blends as ingredients so the customer doesn't know exactly what they are getting.
If you have hair loss, ask your doctor or pharmacist if they can help you.
My trouble with MOJO in the MCU is the possibility of a MODOK type CGI.
Nah I'm all in for tacky naff MODOK. Brilliant stuff.
Did I miss a joke about Forge's Daisy Dukes? Are we just skipping low hanging fruit now?
Dazzler was also one if the characters in the 1992 X-men arcade game.
5:55 that is not Jean, thats the Scarlet Witch
Totally forgot that Adversary was the cause of the X-Men dying in Dallas in the comics...I thought at first it was the Shadow King. The Outback X-Men are my favorite team b/c they were able to operate covertly...their return + conflict with X-Factor during Inferno in the comics was perfect IMO
It's wild though, that era of X-Men has gone untold so far outside of comics- we're in for some good times ahead
Recent comics did imply Adversary and Shadow King are at least similar but different facets of the same bad forces...
Wait, was that a Power Rangers sheet in Jubilee's room lol
SABAN
This was the best episode so far.
Dazzler call out is because she's a playable character in the X-Men 6-player Arcade Game. That game is based on the "Pryde" pilot. So the comment is a snide comment how from that show to this one Dazzler got replaced by Jubilee.
I am glad we got to see old jubilee literally in the form of the voice actor playing an older jubilee.
When Storm and Forge talk in the cabin, sometimes behind Storm you can see the 2 glowing eyes of an owl
I always said if they ever do a live-action Mojo it should be played by Eddie Murphy
