in 2011, I was on a cruise and my neighbor had a scooter. They kept parking it in front of my door so they could still get in and out of their room. I asked them very politely to try and not block my door. 3 days later I had enough of climbing over the seat and parked it next to the pool
The scooters in the hall are a huge safety hazard. As a teacher nothing can be left in the hallway as it’s a fire hazard. How would people get to their Muster stations in an emergency safely if there were lots of scooters in the hall?
That’s primarily the cruise ship fault. The rooms (interior)are really not big enough to accommodate the scooters. As well as when I needed one. Was told to leave it parked outside so they can come get it and charge it at night.
@@nanabnana1823For all fairness, you can upgrade the cabin to the one large enough for the scooter. In emergency situations. I can see it could be a problem.
In my opinion, if the scooters are all on one side, it'll be ok, just have to be patient with fellow passengers in the halls and alternate getting by, like going down a bit, then step in front of a cabin door to let some passengers by.
This is the right move. The people who need larger cabins do have access to alternative cabins. It really is a fire and safety hazard. Maybe the cruise lines will “refit” a few cabins to accommodate these larger scooters so customers won’t have to pay more. However that is unlikely I bet. Either way, it is the right move forward.
Let's get it right Don. I was there at the time on Grand Turk. The " Gentleman" in question was having a photo taken with the Donkey. He was clearly told, and signs were posted, do not walk behind the animals. Needless to say, he did not listen. As much as I find fault with Carnival, they have no responsibility in this case.
Great Idea Carnival. So many abusers of the scooters who have no regard for others. Leaving them in the hall is a huge safety problem in case of emergency.
@@NeedtoSpeak - 26 likes on mine and 5 on yours is pretty good vindication. Maybe people are starting to see the abuse of the scooters and the lack of consideration from some users.
I’m glad they’re taking a stand on scooters in the hallway. That’s a major safety hazard. They couldn’t get away with that in a hotel or anywhere in the us. It’s also a huge inconvenience to fellow passengers and crew. It’s incredibly inconsiderate of cruisers to expect everyone else on the ship to cater to them.
Hi Don! I am so glad to hear that you made it and was glad that you announced that right off the bat because I’m sure all of your subscribers were sweating it out right there with you including me. Can’t wait to see Barcelona through your eyes and reporting. Have a safe trip Don!❤️
My cousin got bit by a stray dog in his neighborhood. He should have sued the city for not warning him about walking down the street with stray dogs there.
We were on a cruise during Christmas and New years. Somebody left a scooter outside there door. There was a door going out to the pool. There was no way to get around it. We had to go across the hall to get out. Big fure hazard.
i am adisabled cruisevi am sorry me having a life inconvinces you. Instead of it being in rooms thereshoul be places on the ship where the ship crew bring it to you when needed.
@@danielle_wheels I doubt they can spare crew to transport scooters in and out all day. Thats not going to happen, but I think the main issue is the hazard of having them block passage in hallways. This keeps staff from moving their equipment and can be an big issue if you have an emergency and folks have to move out fast
@danielle_wheels It will be fine if you follow the rules and put your scooter in your cabin. I use to have a scooter and always put it in my cabin. You know, following the rules.
Don! Jet-lag Don! There are numerous feral mules running ALL OVER Grand Turk Island especially near the Lighthouse where they know the tourists will get OUT of the bus to explore the Lighthouse. This is where the Mules “interact” with the tourists hoping to be fed some treats like fruit and carrots, etc. HOWEVER, these Miles are NOT DOMESTICATED at all. So you must be mindful of how you approach them. And if you transgress their “personal space” you can expect to be bitten or kicked. This warning is generally made available during the ship sponsored excursions. Otherwise, you are on your own to be careful around these feral animals.
Don, enjoy Barcelona today; we went there several years ago and loved it since there is lots to see and do there; we rode the Hop on Hop off bus to get around to see their beautiful city!
Don’t see how they would work on Princess. Frequently, scooters form an obstacle course early morning and late at night. In schools, nothing allowed in hallways, obstructions for emergencies.
Good morning Don. Happy that you gave the report you made it to your city of choice and able to be on the Sun Princess on the right day of sailing. Have a great and safe trip and enjoy that cruise to the fullest.
I agree scooters are a problem in the halls. It seems like it is something happening in the last few years. No one could hide under our beds since we put all our luggage there.
Scooters should be kept in the cabins, for sure. Having rentals available is a very good solution! If someome who absolutely needs a scooter should look into the rules before booking a cruise.
Thanks Don have a great cruise. For the scooters they should be in the rooms or a designated location as being in the hall way could be a hazard if there is an emergency and people would have to evacuate. You need clear hallways in that case.
So happy you made it Don! It was starting to look like if you didn't have bad news, there was no news at all. Can't wait for you to take us along so we can see the beautiful Sun Princess
I have mobility issues due to a stroke in an accident.I don't have full use of my left arm.I can't always stand for like thirty seconds to a minute with a walker and only walk about five feet. And i'm only fifty four years old this happened in twenty nineteen. My sister and I started cruising in october twenty seventeen and have enough thirty eight cruises. I have a manual wheelchair for at home but I have an electric wheelchair that does fold up that I use on the cruises and when I go anywhere. I can't do steps so I can't get an ambulatory Handicapped room because of the stuff up in the restroom, but we always get the fully handicapped, accessible cabins because they have the wider doorways into the room and the bathroom, they have to pull-down bench the rolling shower which is everything that I need. So if there's no availability, then we just don't go on that ceiling and I'm glad that they're gonna try it because my wheelchair. If somebody leaves their scooter out in the hallway along with when they're cleaning the rooms in their carts right there, I can't get around them. They have to be physically moved so I think it's a good thing.. Not only with them being in the way what if somebody has had too much of the drink package and is walking back to their room and sat night and they go around the corner and they fall and hit them hit their face or something on that or safety drug goes off. There's an emergency. You got people running out the hallway. You know in a panic you know fire code violation just all different kinds of things.
Glad you made it to Barcelona & ready to cruise soon on the Sun Princess. That crew member hiding the camera in the bathroom & even worse, hiding under the bed is beyond a Sicko. Agree they need to remove those scooters out of the hallways. It's definitely not safe, also making cabin stewards work more difficult. The guy kicked by the mule while on shore has a nerve trying to sue. He made his decision to get close to the animal. No one forced him!
So glad you made it, have a great trip. I am so glad Carnival are is making the hallways safer. Sometimes it is hard getting through with the scooter in those hallways especially near corners.
I agree with you concerning those who are larger and can't become smaller. I don't think you can legally turn away a cruiser for being too large either - especially if they got they handicap suite. I can see how a larger cruiser who needs a larger scooter, would probably need a handicap accessible suite anyway. I think it should be on a case by case basis, whereby we aren't discriminating against people who are disabled and large. And maybe, they need to stop making cruise rooms so microscopic.
I travel with a handicapped sister who is in a wheelchair. There have been times that she can’t make it down the hallway because scooters are left parked, blocking the way for anyone in a wheelchair.
Most places put signs up warning folks about animals & what they may do. I was at a place most recently that has a Donkey Sanctuary & they have signs up to warn folk of actions from the Donkeys they had & other animals.
I do agree that people with mobility problems should be able to cruise and that is why they have handicapped cabins to facilitate them and their needs. If all cabins are taken then maybe they should book another cruise where they can be accommodated. This should eliminate any scooters being left out in the corridors . Enjoy your show daily. Keep it up. Thanks
Yes, ridiculous! We had our kids in Belize, and the youngest asked why there was a hole in the ground (in a dock). And I said because you can't sue anyone here, so take responsibility for your own actions and don't fall in the hole.
We were on a Princess cruise in Oct 2023 and there was a scooter left in the elevator waiting area constantly. We wondered how the ship would allow that. It was a large scooter as well.
I can understand not having the scooters in the hallway, but as you say some people can't fit on the smaller scooters, so that isn't really an option for them. That is a hard one.
Betting this the scooter issue has been brewing for a while. Got believe the USCG doesn't like the hallways being compromised during an emergency also interferes with housekeeping and ship maintenance crews.
Hello Don, Glad your trip went well and you made it . Yes the guy a creep and really its got to be a scary thing for women traveling on a cruise ship. For the guy getting kick by the mule well one: he has no common sense and two; there are signs on Grand Turk warning of the wild mules.
Maybe some of these larger cruise ships could be designed with a couple of decks with larger corridors and wider doorways into some cabins to accommodate these scooters and wheel chairs. These cabins could be utilized by any passengers then.
People will sue for anything. This is like saying “ I’m sueing because I’m stupid”. SMH We cruised on Princess since 2001 and they have had this rule all along. My husbands scooter always fit through the door.
Don, Go see the big indoor market in Las Ramblas. Its great for a bite ir for getting great snacks and to try new foods. By your view from room you are closevto Las Ramblas.
As far as the guy who got kicked by the mule - you know what they say - "you can't fix stupid!" The scooters need to be out of the hallway. Maybe if they removed some partitions and enlarged a few rooms to accommodate scooters, it would help. Parking in the hall is a hazard.
In my opinion, if the scooters are all on one side, it'll be ok, just have to be patient with fellow passengers in the halls and alternate getting by, like going down a bit, then step in front of a cabin door to let some passengers by.

As for the lawsuit, You Can't Fix Stupid
All cruise lines require the scooter fit in the room, NEVER to be left in hall outside cabin. I agree 100%. I own a scooter.
Always put your luggage under your bed so no one can hide under it.
Plus you gain more space in your room, two birds killed with one stone 😂
That's exactly what I thought. No one could hide under my bed since it's full of suitcases.
Scooters are a hazard when in the hallway. If you need an oversized scooter you need to book an accessible room.

been there many times and those donkeys are wild , signs posted . Ypu are so right
As a Nurse working in healthcare , nothing can block the hallways EVER! In case we need to evaluate the hospital
How can it be the cruise lines fault he got kicked by a mule. He is dumb and it's his own fault not the cruise line. Just ridiculous
Great Idea Carnival. So many abusers of the scooters who have no regard for others. Leaving them in the hall is a huge safety problem in case of emergency.
