There’s a lot of government scholarships where you do the whole thing for free so you should look into that, if it’s not too late. Check out FLEX and YES abroad and NSLI-Y
I'm trying to do summer study abroad in Thailand. My most concern is making new friends and navigating my way around city because I don't know the language much but I know somewhat. Your video was very helpful to me and it answers a lot of questions that I had but I still have so much more.

@@catheryvang3611 I think there are many factors that go into getting the scholarship like merit, need, your essays, etc. CIEE will have the tuition cost on the site of the program and they will subtract the scholarship from the tuition amount and that will be how much you pay. Although, it does not cover flight costs. I got the full scholarship so I only had to pay for the flight and other expenses while I was in Spain. I think it's a good idea to look online at flight costs to go to Thailand to get an idea of how much you would be spending. As for spending money over there. You should bring your debit or credit card with you but keep in mind, your bank will charge you a small fee for using the card in another country (and tell your bank that you are leaving so they don't freeze your account!!). Also, bring cash with you because it's not guaranteed that all places will accept cards. It would be better to exchange your money before traveling so you don't have to go through the hassle of making a trip to exchange money over there, but also bring USD just in case of emergencies. Sorry for the super long response--hope that helped!!

Hello! I’ve been looking at different trips but I’ve been looking at the trip to Russia for Diplomacy in Practice. Was it hard to communicate w locals and learning the language? Did you have to change the currency from US dollars to the other country? Would you prefer dorms or host family?
William Arbaugh hi! It wasn’t terribly difficult for me to communicate with the locals because I had taken Spanish for 5 years before I went, but it also wasn’t easy. It just depends on your language level, but you get better with practice of course. I changed my US dollars to Euros at my bank before I left, but I could still use my debit card overseas; there was just an extra tax because it was in another country. And I only experienced living with a host family which I loved, so I can’t say anything about hostels. Best of luck!

hey! That's awesome! We would go meet up with our team leaders and other students at around 9ish and then we'd finish class around 3 so we'd have the rest of the day to ourselves. I can't speak for other host parents, but my host mom wanted us back by 9 (and if we wanted to stay longer she was fine with it but we just had to let her know). We had the entire weekends to ourselves unless our host family had something planned and wanted us to be with them. Hope that helps. And have fun in Argentina! :D

The entire point of the program for the summer is to learn the language and culture. I am applying as well for that one and I am definitely going to learn some on my own before but they do teach us 60 hours hence the college credit and stuff. Good luck!

I've been looking into the Spain program but I haven't taken a Spanish class in high school. However, I have been teaching myself Spanish for the past year and I am able to read, speak, and understand it. Do you think there would be anyway I could do the Spanish program if I were to take a test for the CIEE?
wow that's incredible! Yes, so after you get accepted, everyone is required to do a STAMP test and it basically tests your knowledge and CIEE uses your score to place you in a level that will be your class in the actual program. No need to stress about the test though. You take the same test on the last day of the program to see your progress before vs after the program. Good luck!!
simmer 73 I believe my flight was around $1200. I remember my mom talked to an agent on the phone to find a cheaper independent flight than what CIEE offered which was around $2000. As for classes, they were 3 hours every day after we did our excursions and community activity
that's a good question! definitely food! my friends and I were always looking out for new foods to try. Our classes were 3 hours long and we would get a short break halfway through so I would also go buy coffee from across the street to help me stay awake. The majority of my spending was food haha but here and there I would go shopping or buy some souvenirs like keychains and stuff to bring back home:)

@@alejandrag912 Yeah I did apply. I applied for the high school summer abroad in South Korea for K-pop Immersion. Hope you get in! The deadline just passed though for this one on January 15th. But you would have to check though.
Brady Farlow they gave us phones to use locally so we could contact our host family and the Ciee staff if we needed to. We had the option to take the SIM card out of the phone and put it in our own, but everything just kept both of the phones with them instead because it was easier. And we could use our phone in places with WiFi to text our family back in the states with WhatsApp

Super happy for you☺️ I learned more Spanish in 4 weeks than I did in my entire 5 years of learning Spanish in school🤭honestly, my Spanish improved significantly on the first day even. But as always, the experience is what you make of it. Studying abroad is an opportunity to improve your language skills but at the same time, you do have to capitalize on your time there and put in the effort to practice the language. I paid for my trip by working after school for six months. Another way I made money was selling my old clothes on Poshmark too. Tutoring is also another way to make money!

I think it was 4.4 weighted and 3.9 unweighted. And just be honest and be yourself in your essays; those essays are always the best ones! I felt nervous at first too, but it doesn't hurt to apply. You never know what might happen! :)
Edgar Pio nah don’t worry about it. One of my friends had a 4.0 and another one just got into a Paris program with a 2.7 so I think they put more weight on the essays

What was your gpa and is there any tips for applying for the essay? I’m scared I might not be able to go cause I might not get accepted
I think it was 4.4 weighted and 3.9 unweighted. And just be honest and be yourself in your essays; those essays are always the best ones! I felt nervous at first too, but it doesn't hurt to apply. You never know what might happen! :)

Edgar Pio nah don’t worry about it. One of my friends had a 4.0 and another one just got into a Paris program with a 2.7 so I think they put more weight on the essays
@@amandasafi4890 do yk if your friend with the lower gpa get any scholarships? my gpa is ok but its definitely not a 4.0 and im worried that applying for scholarship will make it harder for me to get in.

Anastasia In our session, there were 66 students and I imagine session 2 was roughly the same because Barcelona was one of the more popular programs

simmer 73 yes! I got the full scholarship so I only had to pay for the flight and other expenses in Barcelona
I just found out today I received a 80% scholarship for the French intensive

hi! i have a question so i'm currently applying for a ciee scholarship and I wanted to know if when you submit your teachers email for the teacher recommendation letter if they tell the teacher the program you're doing or is it just an email with instructions on how to do the recommendation letter .
honestly I’m not really sure. I heard that the teachers don’t have to write any letter or anything it’s just some multiple choice questions.

I really don’t think I’m gonna get in. I’m applying for the summer program in Denmark and I’m scared i won’t get in. I have a 3.0 gpa (it’s awful) and I literally don’t know what to type for the short essays. I feel like my essays sound so garbage 😭. Could anyone help?? Lol
