Love John Boorman. Great author as well as great filmmaker. His memoirs are superbly written.

John Boorman one of the best directors

Boorman is one of my favorite directors, though the george bernard shaw influence made for a cultured and very unique style of directing/editing, but not a very "safe" england nowadays -- nonetheless the themes of his movies, particularly the catholic ideas, always appealed to me, be it in zardoz, excalibur, the exorcist 2, and even in the screenplay for the unmade lord of the rings adaptation, they made them timeless. Whether people like them or not matters very little, because it all boils down to whether a film should be a certain way, in which there's a checklist of things to get right, that is insane.
I've watched Zardoz completely blind and the non-linear style of editing in itself, told in sequence, it makes the film say something much more complex and makes it easier to understand a complex idea using unconventional storytelling methods, and it's these kind of movies that enrich us, makes us better people.

Excalibur, Deliverance and Zardoz are great mate

Boorman is genius. Zardoz is his most important movie in my eyes. It tells a story that is beyond simple that cheap fantasy scifi scheme.
