  • On Sept. 30, 2022, IU Cinema was thrilled to welcome Maya Cade to our stage as part of our Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture Series. Cade is a true force to be reckoned with in the contemporary film world. A scholar-in-residence at the Library of Congress and the founder of the Black Film Archive-a register of Black films from 1915 to 1979 that are available to stream online-she has presented on Black film worldwide and was previously the Fall 2021 research fellow at IU's Black Film Center & Archive.
Cade was joined in conversation with Isabel Sandoval, an award-winning filmmaker (Señorita, Aparisyon, and Lingua Franca) and past IU Cinema Jorgensen guest.
Cade was with IU Cinema throughout September 2022 as our guest programmer-in-residence and curated five programs-each comprised of a special introduction, short film, and feature presentation-for her series Home Is Where the Heart Is: Black Cinema's Exploration of Home, an expansive look into the many mutations of the idea of “home.”
This series was generously supported by the Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council, the Black Philanthropy Circle, the Department of African American & African Diaspora Studies, the IU Black Student Union, Bloomington High School Black Culture Club, and IU Cinema’s Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Series.
