Pleased to see this crap finally tested. I mistakenly bought one about a year ago. My intention was to re coax before using but when I saw what was inside I didn’t bother spending any more time on it. Just on shelf now awaiting a future project as the case might come in.
Pleased also that you’re now looking at these Lte 3/4G antennas.
    Great video content as always.

Thank you for breaking open and testing an LTE antenna. Chinese engineers achieved their design goal when you clicked the buy button. No takey back. Russian 4G antennas have a good reputation but they stick to the middle bands at 1800MHz. In the U.S. I mostly connect at 800 on the main and 1900 or 2600MHz on the diversity; which makes it difficult to find a good antenna.

Very good and informative video Andrew thanks! I was looking at one of these "Antennas" today with the idea of purchasing one to see it they were any good...as always...I do my research before buying anything from ebay but especially from China as they have ebay flooded with crap but I suppose if ebay are making money from selling Chinese crap they're happy...too bad about the purchasers of the stuff! Out of interest...which type of coax would you recommend for those bands of interest that the mobile phones use? Again...thanks for a very good video!

I was lucky to find your test on the internet just before I was going to order.
It saved me € 20, waiting time and disappointment.
What "cheap" external 3G 4G LTE antenna would you recommend, working ok around 2600Mhz.
Have you tested any Wireless WiFi Repeater Wifi Extender, is there anyone you can recommend or are they also "nice but fake"

Very interesting video Andrew - I'm really looking forward to your analysis of further 4G LTE antennas. I've found your WiFi antenna videos very interesting but not directly relevant to my purpose of WiFi in a caravan. I bought this exact same antenna for £49.99 on the recommendation of another UA-camr who I thought knew his way around such technology - he's even got an affiliate link to the Amazon listing of this chinese con-job, which advertises it as having a 35dB gain. I know it's the same antenna because I pulled mine apart too after having used it on my Huawei B525s LTE router, which didn't even recognise it as an external antenna when plugged in. I eventually got my money back having complained on much the same grounds as you list in your video. My guess is that this is basically an old superceded narrowband WiFi antenna which has been hacked. I've now bought an Alfa AOA-4G-8F which I'm hoping will work much better.

The antenna you list looks good. Can I use that Alfa you list to plug into a device with two TS-9 connections? I was just about to buy one of these then found this video.

Now I know why mine doesn't "work" ROFL.
I can live with the prototype appearance / build quality because it's the element dimensions that are important. BUT ..... the connection of both leads to the same point is just OMFG.
And to compound the reckless design, the lossy coax cable tops it off.
When I bought mine, a cynical / suspicious mate quipped the 5m cables probly had 2dB/m loss. Jeez - he was not wrong. 😅🤣😂🤪
Now to find some decent cable and do a bit of fiddling.

    Hi Andrew.
For months I've been driven mad by crawling download speeds and slooooooooowwwww response on my 4G USB Huawei 3372 modem. (Poor reception area).
    Optus. 990 MHz band.
I had bought two of these 'things', one to to plug in to my modem, but the other was for a router. Couldn't be much difference, but internally, there was. I was aiming to have separate antennas, with 5 metres separation.
Anyway, after dismemberment, I found significant differences between antenna elements on the pcb.
I removed the large rectangular brass elements from each and correctly reattached the coax. BTW - I cut all but a few inches of the 'chinese coax' and used good quality low-loss patch cables to connect to the modem's antennas.
At this stage it's a very Heath Robinson looking affair, with each pcb lying on my desk and cables running hither and thither. 😝🤪😜
    Now the good bit. ):-]
Using Ookla speed test, at 10am (usually next to no performance then), I achieved 4-5 MBit download speed (ok - not much, but that's all I need),
But but but... a 15mS ping.
What a difference that makes when browsing!!!
Is there a way I can post a pic of the contraption for the amusement/enjoyment of everyone else here?
    Cheers.
    John C.

I always find 4G antenna frequency interesting. #1 you don't need an external antenna in good signal areas. #2 in bad signal areas, the highest frequencies are the first to drop out.
Depending on your provider, look up what are the lowest 4G frequencies they support and then buy an antenna for that range. For instance "4GX" in Australia operates around 750MHz. There are other supported 4G frequencies from same carrier, but they are typically over 1GHz and far from a tower, useless. In low signal areas, choose low frequency, it travels further.
Antenna type? Fixed position, a yagi. On the move, an omni "whip" type. Test using a mobile app like LTE Discovery.

Thank you very very much Andrew! I have this antenna on my van and have had the results you expressed. tried soldering my own IPEX pigtails on that coax and found the cable center and sheath is copper coated aluminum so as soon as you heat and get that coating off or get to the edge of the cut wire by soldering it won't tin and ruins your soldering iron tip no mater the flux. Now you have fully proven my thoughts by taking it apart and showing me the abomination i thought it was. its coming off the roof of the van in the morning. I already have an Antenna Vector Analyzer now and have built some ground plane antennas to exact frequency with success. Just finished a set of Bi-Quad antennas i have made along with type-N and sma connectors for me to do testing and mounting tomorrow. Subscribed due to this video, 73s from SW1IUK currently residing in Australia. :-)

What a mess, it's more of a bad terminator than an antenna. However on the bright side, the VSWR might actually measure as 1.4 or better, since all the forward and reverse power gets wasted in the cheap coax anyway.
Interesting look at this thing, I guess they tried to match it for the 1880MHz LTE band used in most of europe.
