- SCP-974 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as the Treehouse Predator.
SCP 974 is a carnivorous creature that superficially resembles a human child. It possesses greater durability, strength and stamina than a child of similar size and does not appear to be deterred by bullets or melee weaponry. Although SCP974 can briefly subsist on small animals such as squirrels or birds, its primary and preferred food source is prepubescent human children.

I mean we universally know that children are durable, just like babies-
throughout history, humans have done plenty of human durability experiments, with varying levels of ethics and varying levels of intent. it wouldn't surprise me if we have some that involve children.
plus they established this thing isn't bothered by bullets. last I checked, non-anomalous children don't come close to that durability

For all they know killing the entire species off could cause an xk class end lf the world scenario, after all it is basically anonalous or supernatural. Plus feeding it children will gather importante data to see how this scp acts so that they can terminate and contain more. Plus as we saw countless times with the GOC, killing and hunting something off emidiently might be the greatest mistake anyone could of made.

The only thing stopping them are a group of SCP containers that are full of humans with room temperature iq. Why not just purge the scps? If the instance of 977 that was dug up and examined died shortly after, couldn't the Foundation just let captured 974s go into that hibernating state, dig them up, and then just let them die to avoid feeding it live children or risking it reach its adult forms? I feel like that would be way less of a headache for the Foundation (and the kids being sacrificed, and their families, and the staff that would be killed if 974 reaches its adult form...you get the picture).

Honestly one of my least favorite SCPs. Too often writers make the SCP foundation just out and out evil. There is no reason to feed this thing a constant stream of children. "Cold, not cruel" is a good rule that is almost never actually followed and it ruins the setting for me.
Keeping in mind there are many SCP writers, this is one of these cases where you gotta tell the specific author "your story sucks, I reject it" and make your own headcanon. That, or go along with the notion that the SCP Foundation is a deeply corrupt organization in a grimdark universe which could really use an overhaul.

80% of scp's don't get damaged by bullets yet all of them seem to be able to have an autopsy performed 😕
I figure that once they’re dead whatever natural defenses they have are no longer functioning so it will probably be pretty easy to autopsy them
Yes but if there skin is naturally resistant to a high calibre, high Velocity piercing rounds then a scalpel shouldn't be able to pierce there still hard skin as skin takes like 72 hours for human skin to start to soften and decompose, but I suppose you are probably right

I recently found this channel and I have watched almost all of its videos, one thing I can say is that I love the way they animate the characters screaming
I know the foundation is meant to just keep the SCP's in containment for reaserch, but they know mostly everything, the stages of life, the way it hunts, they could just start killing them all

IMO this is one of the sloppier SCPs that have been written. It isn't in line with a lot of foundation principles. Although "Cold not cruel" is thrown out the window by a lot of contributors, this is completely ridiculous given that such an entity would very much have a kill order on it, at the very least it's underground stage to prevent it going to adulthood. Fantastic video on it though.
This reminds me of a book by Steven King: The Outsider. And the character El Cuco/Coco/Coca, in it's variation.

Soooo... it is absolutely SCPs like this and how they are contained that makes me really put stock into the GOC. GOC would never contain these things or feed kids to them, they would just wipe them out.

Sigh...I doubt this is the channel's fault, and more likely a flaw in the writing of the SCP.
Giving them children to keep them in their child form seems absolutely absurd, when you could just dig them up while they're in their underground dormant form and let them expire like the first one. Let it eat animals for several months, let it go dormant, dig it up, rinse and repeat. It would only expend 1 or 2 974s per year, which seems a lot better than 365 days divided by cycles of about 12-19 days, totalling between about 19-30 innocent children per 974 per year.
Edit: yeah this video is fine. It's the original article's problem, and a lot of people on the SCP website seem to agree with me, but the article is nearly 10 years old so no real hope of changing it now.

I like to imagine that the shut guy used to be an abnormal adult form of scp 974 who didn't like eating people, so he ventured into the mountains to avoid his urges to do so. After not eating anyone for months, it buried itself into the snow and developed into what it is now due to the difference between snow and the dirt it would normally bury itself in. It covers it's face partly because it is ashamed of what is has become, and partly because he doesn't want to see people and be tempted to eat them. It's screaming when someone sees it's face is it trying it's best to control itself to refrain from eating them, but also it's natural instincts telling him he should devour them immediately. In the end, he completed step one and kills them, but can't bring itself to eat them.

I feel that the outcome here is a little unrealistic… well, “unrealistic” within the SCP universe. Wouldn’t it be more logical to designate 974 instances as kill on site? The Ethics Committee is there to limit the both the human casualties AND serve as a check concerning the humane treatment of SCPs. By the end of all that mess, I don’t see a reasonable need to keep a 974 alive for study, it would be much more ethical to simply terminate all instances than to sacrifice an indeterminate amount of children to an instance. I just don’t follow the logic, I feel the writer put the reinstatement of sacrifices in there just for shock value rather than for any real purpose.
