Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer Talk The 'Big 4' On Their Supposed Rivalry "The competition is now"

- Back in the 1980s, The Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer) were all competing to be the biggest metal band in the world. Now that the dust has settled, the bands are all on extremely good terms with each other. They've even spent the last year staging massive Big 4 concerts around the globe. Before their show at New York's Yankee Stadium, we spoke with the bands about how they all get along these days. "A lot of things have changed over the years," said Lars Ulrich. "When you get out of the sandbox and grow up, you stop worrying so much about what everyone else is doing ... To me, the competition is now internal. That's the biggest difference from twenty years ago."

@diziamonddave If you compare the albums that Metallica and Megadeth have released during the last 15 years, I think everyone with a bit of common sence would say that Metallica have released the 'heaviest' records. I love Megadeth too, but Mustaine doesn't seem to able to keep his sound fresh and vivid anymore and that's a shame, cause Megadeth used to be a damn good band.

As far as heavy/thrashy /aggressive Slayer demolished Metallica, megadeth and anthrax, basically only bands from 80s and early 90s that came close were sodom and pantera

yeah i hate rolling stone. i had a free subscription for a year and no, they DO NOT care about good rock music. their main focus was some bullshit politics and cultural observations. Example: the best article they had that year was an interview w Lemmy. there was no mention of it on the cover. the cover, by the way, was a near gay porn "beefcake" shot of some douchebag from the movie twilight.

Definitely, Anthrax was massive back in 80s and 90s, once they did state of euphoria and then persistence of time, man they really blew up, especially with That bring the noise song with public enemy, they were hitting massive rotations on not just late night tv but daytime slots too that only bands like Guns N’ Roses and skid row were getting. Anthrax were REALLY big at one point. Look up their live N.F.V. Footage, it’s a huge crowd

Are you fucking kidding me? St. Anger was an abomination, both load and reload are fucking horrible with some ok "pop metal" songs. Nothing Metallica has done in the last fifteen years compares to The System has Failed. United Abominations had some awesome songs, I personally love them all. Metallica made one decent album in the last fifteen years, and I think it was horrible. The riffs sucked. The solos sucked. The over all quality sucked. Megadeth isn't who they were, but Metallica is dead.
