    A Canadian here, we are less than an hour away just on the Canadian side of the border in British Columbia. We have been devastated as well with major evacuations ongoing and thousands of square miles flooded out. I know the beautiful Sedro Woolley/Burlington area very well and have property near Concrete, Wa. Our hearts go out to all on both sides of the border. Lets all do what we can to help out our neighbors no matter where they are during this time.

      I'm in Bellingham, Washington but I watched Canadian news last night. It was stunning to hear the news of so much destruction. My heart goes out to all Canadians, too, who are affected by this flooding. And I appreciate your kind reminder to help others, no matter where they are located. May everyone in all these flood locations receive the love, help and support that they need at this time.

      @@hope2029 The Nooksack River overflowed in Wacom County and it flowed northwards towards the Abbotsford area. Some areas received over 300 millimetres of rain, on both sides of the border, in just over one day. Mother Nature will not be denied and doesn’t adhere to international borders! I don’t know how many more examples we need to wake up to the worldwide problem of global warming before all countries take decisive action. Anyway, we have a huge mess to clean up and repair in the Pacific Northwest

    Hi, I live in Sedro Woolley, above Clearlake, one of many lakes in the area. We had many hours of extreme downpoors and 50+ mph winds which finally ended last night. It is mostly the Skagit river that is flooding, and anyone who lives near it or in low lying areas is experiencing this, as the video shows. I'm 140 ft up on a hill, and look out over at the tiny town of Ckearlake, which is partly flooded by the lake

    so was this caused by unusually heavy rains? did they not just have fires in that area during the summer months? I live in the east and have never been to the northwest myself. this is just so sad. is this a lake overflow?

    • @megansfo
      @megansfo 2 роки тому +2

      A few lakes have overflowed but the main cause is multiple major rivers flooding from a massive atmospheric river rain event.

    • @onetuliptree
      @onetuliptree 2 роки тому +1

      The Pacific Northwest is famous for light mist rain throughout the winter months, with snow accumulating on the Cascade Mountains to the east. Heavy downpour is unusual and is a flooding event when it happens. The Skagit river runs from Ruby Mountain area to the Pacific ocean, through Sedro-Wooley, so if this fell as rain on the mountain, it might cause rapid snow melt in addition to the heavy rain.

    This kind of weather with this kind of damage has been occurring for a very long time, at least every 10 years a large wind and rain event happens. 1940 the Tacoma narrows bridge (galloping gurdy) collapses because of high winds and rain, 1980 the Hood Canal floating bridge sinks after high winds and rain. That same year Mt Saint Helens blows up with a major volcanic eruption. 1990 the I-90 floating bridge collapses and sinks because of high winds, 2014 the town of Oso Wa was struck by a massive mudslide killing 43 people after a major rain event. We have wind, we have rain, and we have fire but, no hurricanes like the Atlantic and Gulf coast or even earthquakes like California.
