BeomSeok admires SiEun and SooHo and has a desire to be strong like them. After being bullied at his former school and at home, he wants to have a prominent position among his friends. When YoungYi from the gang joined his friends, he feels that he has lost his status among friends. When BeomSeok's former bullies met again, he longed for revenge. As a friend, SooHo wanted to protect him from going too far with his revenge. The iconic moment when BeomSeok loses his glasses after being slapped by a bully. As if a mask had been thrown from his face. All his demons from the past of tyranny, humiliation, exploitation, restriction came to the surface and united him with the bullies in his own class. A very turning point in the series.
He was so insecure it’s almost embarrassing considering si eun and su oh never gave bad friend. He was never a good friend/person if such minor things made him fold 🙄 and at 16:52-17:02 you guys are exactly right!!!
his character is so well written yet people forget it the second he does something wrong. all he needed that whole time was therapy. as someone who's been bullied before, i can't even imagine how hard it must've been trying to actually fit in after getting real friends for the first time ever. it might be something "so minor" for people like you since these were your own words but as someone who knows how he felt with these "minor" things, i can tell you that it totally messes you up and it's a real struggle you have to endure. you just literally start to overthink every single detail, how you're the only one no one follows on instagram, how no one posts you even though you've been friends for a long time, how you seem to be the only one paying for your friends and not really getting appreciated for it (together with him thinking that using money was the only way of getting friends hence why he ALWAYS offered money for everything which i think also has to do something with his adoptive dad as well since he only adopted him for money and good reputation. he was taught wrong and this is exactly why it's important to raise your children right. this is why education is important!), the feeling when you see others having fun without you, literally every single detail. it doesn't even matter if those are just misunderstandings. getting heavily bullied for your whole life together and living with an abusive adoptive father is going to fuck you and your mind up no matter what. he's a literal CHILD where the influence others give him is very crucial. it all went downhill when the kids that were already troublemakers started giving him a very bad influence that included alcohol and drugs but at the same time while they still had his back against his old bullies where most of his trauma and possible ptsd came from, and they seemed to aknowledge him more than anybody else by noticing all those exact details that no one else had noticed before and he didn't even have to say anything (though communication is the key in every relationship)! but sure, he turned out into a bad friend. he was insecure and he didn't communicate, got into a bad friend group and got a very bad influence from them which lead him to big big mistakes but his character overall made me cry. all he needed was some love and help but he failed to ask for it which is sad and unfortunate especially as someone who understands how he must've felt with all the bullying, the traumas, ptsd, abuse, alcohol problems and so much more 😢 no wonder he turned out so fucked
While i do agree with some of the points that you put forward, i don't agree with his actions, i have been in his exact position once and that's why i empathized with him a lot and he was my favourite character, just like him I've been abused by my dad since i was a kid, from grade 1 to 6th i lived like a ghost in my school cause i was the outcast. I do get it that being the one getting sided and the feeling of being sucks but he chose to go down the wrong path himself, i don't mind the violence because I've been guilty of that too but he took it too far, there is a thin lining between justified revenge( which is debatable) and petty violence, he chose the latter, sure he needed therapy but sometimes you need to be responsible for your actions, no matter what's your background story. @@NettieLottie
Bum seok cares about being tagged and followed back so much cuz it’s a public declaration of saying “I fw u heavy” and when he was getting bullied at the school no one was friends with him openly or even gave him any recognition
I really feel sorry for bum seok, and the reason putting your arm around someone is seen as sonning in Korea is because that’s what bullies do to take their victims away or pretend everything is chill in front of the teacher. And yh he rlly was just paying for stuff in his relationship with si eun and soo hee , and then they added that girl to the group and she’s closer and more comfortable with them and she doesn’t rlly pay anything so he’s jealous
