Breakfast diners got quite a show as the waves pounded the windows at the Marine Room in La Jolla. It might look scary but after windows broke in 1982, they were reinforced and have withstood crashing waves battering them since-so far, so good. Judy Hsu with photojournalist Tom Warren captured all the excitement.

wonder if those waves ever washed up a dead seal or human being up against those windows- that would be a sight to view while you are eating your clam chowder.

As for the rest...Sure, those windows look very sturdy, maybe even double-thickness windows and they're sealed...But I don't think I'd like to eat there...

I guess CBS randomly felt nostalgic.
Kinda the same reason ppl start making live-action Disney movies. Also to promote business, keep our economy circulating.
Last January the local San Diego news did a special on the architecture of The Marine Room. That special got picked up by a news aggregator and was run all over the nation. I guess they wanted to hop on the "trend" and uploaded this archival footage.
