Great videos thanks! I have been fly fishing for many years but euro nyphing only a couple. I see you are getting good distance on your cast and 20' to 30' from the rod tip with good drifts with I assume a micro leader. I use a 2wt 10' rod as well and have been transitioning to more micro leaders. The problem I have with a mid weight leader is side drag out of the drift line with low flow when I cast that distance. What is your micro leader formula and I assume tuck casts and lifting the line asap. I am from Pennsylvania as well and I do have success euro nyphing but I am not comfortable using it on a the Bighorn River in MT.yet where I have to throw size 18 or 20's. I know the point fly can be heavy and the dropper can be smaller....just seeing if you have any advice or experience in those heavy pressured, sometimes low flows.
Thank you, Patrick! When casting 30 ft on an up and across drift-you may only get a good 5 ft drift. With low flows, if you fish more in front of you (upstream and back to you), you will get longer drifts. I have a video I did on micro leaders and you can see my formula in it: ua-cam.com/video/_LsHADwel28/v-deo.html When you cast-you don’t want to lift back up. You want to stop the rod high above parallel. I have a casting video here: ua-cam.com/video/KIdUsRB9ERY/v-deo.html Also in my 5 things to learn video-I talk about casting as well. When you need to fish smaller bugs. I do a couple of things: 1. I will over weight a size 18 (or 20) and have it on the bottom with a smaller lighter bug on the dropper. 2. If they are hard on the bottom, I’ll switch my heavier fly to the dropper and have my smaller fly on the bottom. I have fished some super technical water and one of those 2 usually will do the trick. Also going single fly and really drab on pressured water/low flows helps as well. Hope this helps. Tight lines to you.
How is that Galvan reel balancing on your rods? You should do a gear/ setup video you know one where I won’t get distracted buy the 1 million fish you catch 😂 keep up the good work
HAHA! I use the Galvan 3.5 and it balances both 10’9” 2wt and the 3wt perfectly. I will be doing a setup video in the near future when I’m not fishing! Appreciate you watching and tight lines!
Thanks, Josh! I have used the Diamondback 10'10in 2wt. It's a great stick. To me it is more comparable to my T&T 3wt-it's more like a 2 1/2 weight. It can handle any fish out there and has great recovery.
That section along the RR tracks below the kayak park has always frustrated me. It seems to have too much speed and not enough cover. The water is so fast there, it swirls behind the rocks. I'm expecting to find fish there, but rarely do.

I fish the Gunpowder in MD when it’s low &stick with 2 flies but try to manage my leader & sighter to keep them in the water column. I dropped a rainbow warrior & a prince nymph into a deep pocket the other day. Bam! A double header! More fun than catching 2 white perch on a bottom rig when I was a kid on the Chesapeake. 😂Best,Tony
Tony, I am using one fly in those situations-as I did in this video. When the fish are in tight quarters and tucked against the banks/under limbs, etc…you can be more accurate with one fly. Thank you, Scott! When fishing water that shallow, there is no need to dunk your sighter-you only do that on an up and across drift in deeper runs. In 1-2ft, your sighter angle will be more severe because you need to be fishing farther away (thus more of an angle). 3ft still allowed me to have my sighter close to the surface at those angles.
