Since the radius of the earth would be bigger, the curvature would be smaller. You could say that flat earthers would have "more ground" to stand on. xP
Somethign interesting to note: Larger planets tend to have denser atmospheres. The particulars can vary wildly, but if this super-earth had, say, twice the atmospheric density at sea level, and the same composition, that means twice as much oxygen for the animals, and twice as mutch co2 and nitrogen for the plants. This may partially ofset the extra weight problem. It woudl aso make flying easier. A thicker atmosphere means more forceful winds and more violent storms, and the larger surface area would amplify this even further. On the flip side, thicker air will transmit heat better; so cooler tropics and warmer poles. Greater land areas, and larger gaps between them, means a significantly higher biodiversity. Given time, you could end up with every continent having an entire planet worth of biodiversity.
Yo, for real? So these super earths could be dominated by huge insects because of the increase in oxygen? That would be so cool :0 (and terrifying, but cool)
also, the temperature issue... wouldnt it be fine depending on the distance to the star? If it is hotter you could be more far away which will also reduce the solar radiation intensity
It's always been assumed that the first extraterrestrial complex life forms would be insects. They are the most biodiverse life on our planet. Their exoskeletons, smaller body portions, and plentiful legs also are better at combating increased gravity. I was also taught that Superearths actually have smaller mountains. The less gravity a terrestrial planet has, the more complex geography it can have. Gravity is like a steamroller flattening everything into as perfect as sphere as possible. It isn't a coincidence the largest canyon and the largest mountains in our system are both located on Mars. Mars is technically the smallest planet in our system, with Mercury being the remnant core of an earlier planet.
I seriously do not know where people get these deep soothing narrators but wherever they find them it doesn’t matter. This channel has an EXCELLENT future ahead of it.
Interesting topic, and really nice graphics. However I have some counterpoints: Venus has a thick atmosphere despite having no significant magnetic field same as Mars and being much closer to the sun. Mars lost its atmosphere and Venus did not both because it lacks a magnetic field, but also because it's much smaller and the gravity can't hold its atmosphere. A super Earth would have stronger gravity than Venus and thus hold on to more atmosphere. Also, what if the super earth was sligtly further away from the sun? Like where Mars is. Also mountains on Earth are limited because of gravity, that's why the tallest mountain on Earth is much smaller than the tallest on Mars, so the mountains on a super Earth would be even smaller because the rocks can only support so much mass before breaking apart.
mountains are limited by gravity but they grow due to tectonic collisions, mars's tectonic plates have stopped moving due to a much colder core and mars also has a alot less iron in it's core than the earth so it's magnetic field died out early leading to solar winds stripping the atmosphere away it didnt help that mars had massive impacts as well in it's past. mars cant hold a livable atmosphere not because of it's size but because of the solar winds and almost nonexistant magnetic sphere mars also doesnt have mountains it has volcanoes and they're massive due to less gravitational forces on the magma which allows much larger magma chambers to feed the volcanoes allowing them to get to such massive sizes
@@Ghuirm Explain how Venus which also lacks a magnetic field just like Mars, and is twice as close to the sun and so experiences 4x stronger solar winds (they drop with the square of distance) maintains a much thicker atmosphere than Mars. By your logic, it should have lost all atmosphere by now.
@@philw5699 first result from google for "does venus have magnetic field" we get: "Unlike Earth, which has an intrinsic magnetic field from the sloshing, molten material inside its core, Venus generates its magnetic field from the interaction of the Sun’s solar wind with the planet’s ionosphere, the atmospheric region filled with charged atoms. Those charged atoms create electric currents. As the solar wind drapes over Venus, it interacts with those currents to produce a full-fledged magnetosphere around the planet." So it has magnetic field protecting the atmosphere. This plus stronger gravity and there's a difference vs Mars. The small size of Mars made its core cool down quickly and the small gravity pull made the solar wind strip away its atmosphere with ease.
for what it's worth, wouldn't increased gravity still allow flying, although different, due to the significantly changed air pressure? I imagine lift would still be possible, and possibly way stronger, and if not then gliding or balloons would be more plausible
Alien worlds on Netflix goes into depth about a world called Atlas that is a much heavier planet but with a much more dense atmosphere that can support all sorts of flying organisms!
Correct. Stronger gravity would make a denser atmosphere, so while friction would be deadly for anything entering the atmosphere, creatures and machines would be able to glide and smaller organism could even swim in air, just like some smallest flies do in Earth's atmosphere as we speak.
@@8749236 Space Flight is still possible using the piggy back configuration, Air-launch-to-orbit space vehicle. similiar to the virgin galactic or Antonov Shuttle. you make a huge plane to bring the spaceship close to upper atmosphere, due to the thicker atmosphere flying would be effective and conserve alot of fuel

Have you watched "alien worlds s01e01" on Netflix? With a more heavy earth, the atmosphere would be more dense and gliding through air would be way easier. So flying in general would be easier. This contradicts the way you describe flying would be harder or impossible on a heavy earth. Yes, the start would be hard, but you would never have to stop gliding through the thick atmosphere when you have the width of the wings and the aerodynamics evolved well enough. Even land predators would benefit from a sort of gliding attack from above.
My favorite genre of UA-cam content is videos that make me realize how ridiculously unlikely our lives are. So many things had to align for us to simply exist.. it’s amazing

This channel will surely hit a million subscribers in the next few months, very high quality video editing with an interesting premise and a knowledgeable narrator. Never clicked on an ad video purposely and couldn’t be more happy that I did. Definitely hitting that notification bell, keep up the good work my friend!
What if a superearth was further away from its sun? This would dramatically reduce the incoming electromagnetic radiation and also mean that the balance between heat from the sun and heat from the planets core could be balanced.
THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS VIDEO. 1 - 0:55 the planets they discovered were not necessarily rocky; These planets may be rocky or they could be mini-Neptunes. we have no way of knowing currently since we can't measure the density of the planets.\ 2 - 1:28 If the earth was 10x the size but the same density it would be a mini-Neptune. Less density in relation to size will make the planet more gaseous. 3 - 4:10 Higher gravity would mean flying would be more likely to evolve. A higher gravity would mean the atmospheric density would be higher making it easier to fly. 4 - The spaceship thing is correct, the only thing in this video that was correct 5 - 5:00 Geology on planets like this is purely speculative. 6 - 5:52 I have real issues with this one. If our planet was a super-earth and not a mini-Neptune(Having a higher density than earth); then the planet would have more radioactive material in its core thus a stronger field. The reason Mars does not have active volcanoes, tectonics, or a magnetic field is that the core died due to not having the radioactive material to sustain the dynamo on the planet. There are other factors the go into this as well. 7 - 6:35 Again this is purely speculative geology. It's like the creator did no fact-checking on this video. Like at all. I wanted to really like this. I really did, but the "facts" are just misinformation.
I can't believe that this channel is now over 2 years old, feels like it was only yesterday that you posted this video and everyone was comparing you to Kurzgesagt. How the times go by!
Good video. However, I feel like you’re conflating mass, density, size, and radius as all being one thing. It’s entirely possible for a planet 10 times the volume of Earth to have the exact same surface gravity as Earth. And, if you increase the radius of the planet without decreasing the mass, surface gravity would actually *decrease*. I think you could have made things like this a little clearer to the viewer.
@@HowlingWolf518 Well it depends of the constitution of the core. A tiny core with an inferior density could make a good difference in the total mass. And remember that if it is 10 times bigger you are also more far from the center which decrease the gravity. Soo... honestly i'm expecting a higher gravity but maybe not like the one discribed in the video.
Really great Kurzgesagt style editing and narration but I have some trouble believing some of the content is accurate. Saying air travel or space ships wouldn't be possible doesn't ring true. Even if airplanes had a heavier mass the atmosphere would be much thicker making flight easier. Also thicker atmosphere does mean hotter but that's only bad if the super earth is as close to it's star as our earth is to the sun. I love Kurzgesagt not only because it's great presentation, but mostly because of it's very well studied information and difficult concepts. This video gives information that has shock appeal but lacks the substance I'm looking for.
When you say 2-10 x the size you mean mass, and even 10x the mass would only be twice the radius with a solid surface. But you show solid planets the size of Neptune (roughly 5x earth's radius) If you want to live up to that of Kurzgesagt at least make your visuals clear. Also that craft in 2016 was a telescope, not a crewed mission to other stars as implied by the visuals
6:08 Acording to cooling models based on size the Earth's core should have solidified a couple billion years ago. The Earth's core is still hot because of the large percentage of uranium and other radioactive minerals in the Earth's core that are decaying giving off heat. If our supper earth is just a scaled up version of Earth it would have *MORE* radioactive minerals, as well larger bodies cool off *SLOWER* not faster.
@@michaelkeplinger4195 dont forget about the whole electrosphere going away if the earth were to still have the same ratios as this earth the magnetic field would be stronger and not just gone
@@ARM0RP0WER I think you have a typo. Your statement is nonsensical as written. I also can't really tell where you were going with it. We mainly need the magnetic shield to exist at a minimum basic strength to protect the atmosphere, a stronger field wouldn't really matter, as long as it was there at all.
@@Lawsonomy1 a weaker feild would let more of the suns bursts in the.... Um. Chrono mass ejections i think they are called if we had a weaker field those would effect us even more if not being deadly a stronger feild would help. Also im tired right now so sorry if i seem out of it
I'd say that the same way we found a way around our level of gravity and started flying, any humans that had to evolve on such a massive planet would, may take more time or so but I think they would too since the atmosphere would be denser
Dude it'll be nearly impossible just to reach a type 1 civilization in a super earth and if we cant leave the planet then forget about dyson sphere and intergalactic travels

Awesome video! Just got recommended by UA-cam to watch this, I'm gonna watch other videos of yours too now. Now I'm gonna add this to my list of "UA-camrs I watch to gain knowledge to pass tests" along with others like Kurzgesagt..
Oh, another channel with info I'll never use in my life but stuck with due to brilliant animation.
This is my first video i saw in this channel, i got it by yt recomendation and i never regret it, I clicked on the video, and as soon as I saw your animation style I immediately subscribed to you
Loving the videos. metric measurements would be preferable though. Keep it up =D
Everything that I am thinking has already been expressed in the comments made by other viewers, so I won’t restate the same thing for the 1000th time.
Love the animations and the narration.
I hope you grow bigger, since the quality of your content so far deserves it, imo.
amazing. The quality speaks for itself.
This is gonna be kurtskerzart2.0 ;)))) can't wait to see more wonderful videos like this :D
Am I saved ThanoS?
This channel is insaneeee
THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS VIDEO.
1 - 0:55 the planets they discovered were not necessarily rocky; These planets may be rocky or they could be mini-Neptunes. we have no way of knowing currently since we can't measure the density of the planets.\
2 - 1:28 If the earth was 10x the size but the same density it would be a mini-Neptune. Less density in relation to size will make the planet more gaseous.
3 - 4:10 Higher gravity would mean flying would be more likely to evolve. A higher gravity would mean the atmospheric density would be higher making it easier to fly.
4 - The spaceship thing is correct, the only thing in this video that was correct
5 - 5:00 Geology on planets like this is purely speculative.
Thought it was a kurzgesagt video but was surprised to see that it was another youtuber. Keep it up Koranos! Love the effort🙂🙂
I can't believe that this channel is now over 2 years old, feels like it was only yesterday that you posted this video and everyone was comparing you to Kurzgesagt. How the times go by!
so basically you’re telling us how lucky we are to have the perfect living conditions
Exactly this. The video actually confuses these concepts a lot.
I think it's implied that composition of these planets are roughly similar to Earth (hence the name Super Earth) so density is about the same
It'd be incredibly hard to have 10x the volume and the same mass without a lot of empty space.
@@Cyiel568 Not sure I buy the "gravity is weaker" argument - that'd mean a thinner atmosphere because the air escapes. But I see your point.
Here before this channel becomes huge.
YUGE!
Yep
Jeesh, the editing is stellar... Keep it up!
holy hell! this is amazing, only 63K? come on guys, lets blow this channel up
Wait a second this isn't Kurzegesagt-
Wait no, yes it is. Continue.
5 days late Don't care this channel is already beautiful and it's like Kurzkesagt.
@@okeomslax26 who are you?
You should add closed captions, like infographics show....for those who want to watch in lectures without earphones lol
God bless your editing and the algorithm. You just earnt yourself a new subscriber!
Subbed 5 seconds into the video. This channel is going to be SPECIAL.
Ya, this is all show and no content. It makes some bold claims with zero support to back up those claims.
Also the moon and sun's gravitational forces deform the Earths shape which aids in maintaining the mantel's temperature.
Also im tired right now so sorry if i seem out of it
@@ARM0RP0WER We are not talking about the Super Earth having a weaker field. We are talking about it having a stronger one.
This channel needs more recognition.
Amazing quality✨✨
I'd say that the same way we found a way around our level of gravity and started flying, any humans that had to evolve on such a massive planet would, may take more time or so but I think they would too since the atmosphere would be denser
Dude it'll be nearly impossible just to reach a type 1 civilization in a super earth and if we cant leave the planet then forget about dyson sphere and intergalactic travels
I accidentally clicked on this video, now I'm glad I did!
Happy to hear that Graham!
Great video, keep up the amazing work!
The narrator's voice is so much pleasing. Happy that I get to be the part of a channel which will grow to some greater vibes.
Love this channel already!
Thank you!
Super Earth would have managed democracy
Anyone who calls you a Kurzts... kurst... “In a Nutshell” clone doesn’t understand.
We _need_ more beautifully illustrated, well narrated, videos made by passionate people.
We _need_ this as a _species._
But I mean it is a similar style
Heh i mean kurzgesagt is an excellente channel so having like a second kurzgesagt would be an absolute win.
This Channel seems really good
i love how channels like this are growing in numbers!! Subscribed!
My 2nd fav channel! ❤️
Videos like this remind me how lucky humans are to even be living right now
You must be an athiest
Advertising yourself as a kurzgesagt clone is a terrible idea for the future of your channel.
@@emelyarye2641 exactly.
Heck yeah! UA-cam continues to prove the current educational system is flawed. I learn way more from these videos than I ever did in school. Looking forward to a lot of great Koranos videos!
Thank you! Really appreciate that
Been watching for like 2-3 months I know you'll be popular, content like this.
