This was great! So few writers actually get into the nuts and bolts of their process so it's always cool to see videos like this. Thanks!
This. This is exactly what Authortube needs! More of this! Thank you so much for doing this video! 📣👏🌟
Just started a rough draft. The video timing could not be more perfect.
woohoo, good luck with the drafting!
“And after several hours of pursuing baby name websites...I have decided on some names :D” 😂
it's a PROCESS XD
@@Katytastic I totally understand. Google thinks I'm constantly pregnant because I'm looking up baby names all the time.
mood honestly xD
I can't believe how a name changes your character's voice, but it does. I've changed my character's names so many times it's ridiculous. Finally settled on main male character name and side characters, but still thinking on female character.
okay but "environmental nightmare < emotional nightmare" is GENIUS. like i love this so much and i also love how you've been practically plotting a story with us for years. it was so enjoyable to see how you work!
I would honestly read an entire book just of this brain dumping XD
Me too! (Hi Brey, I'm watching this for TTS)
@@kazifiiiiedFancy meeting you here
Mr too.
Me too.
This went straight into my "Writing Inspiration" playlist to watch again. Thank you for this glimpse into your process. At first impression, it gives me a kick in the pants and hope that I can actually get something done with my writing. Seeing someone else draft in real time sort of clues me in to what I could be doing to maximize my time given how slow a writer I am.
"Validation sustains me. "
I am totally stealing that line....
Wow. This is so clear and cool and actually something I've never really seen or done before. Definitely gonna give this a try; looks like this type of rough drafting might really help me avoid writers block or having to do complete rewrites of later drafts!
Thank you Kat!
this is like writing asmr, but like *good* asmr that doesn’t make me want to rip off my headphones in a fight or flight response
the way my mouth just dropped when i saw this and was like "now that's about to be a good f word video" 😍
I was literally struggling with how to go about writing out my zero draft when this popped up in my feed. It makes so much more sense to go about it this way! THANK YOU!!
Ooh this is so interesting! Although I consider my first drafts to be rough, I do catch myself wanting them to be too clean early on. This kind of _rough_ seems so much fun to write and perfect to polish up later. Gotta give it a try :) (sorta perfect timing as well as I just started reworking an old project)
Is there a “love” button??? Because this is going to help me write the first draft so much. Thank you for this, Kat❤️
Well there's the like button, so..
I've been trying to hunt down resources for writing my first novel, and your channel is literally the only thing that helps.
I'd watch endless videos like this that are more in-depth in the writing process. Love it 💕
Always motivational to hear how you draft, edit, outline and write in general❤️ Thank you for always motivating me to write 🎉
So like can Kat just read fairytales in that nice calming voice for me to fall asleep to? Like... sleeping ASMR potential right here
I love these videos, it not only helps you with your writing but gets you in the mood to write. Danke
This is such a simple, yet complex concept! I'm really interested in your story and the plot. I really wish you the best with the direction of this story Kat, because it will be amazing!
Ahhh I really loved this. I think writing a more detailed outline or a zero draft like thatwould really help me. I think I always get stuck with what words I want to use and everything. Thanks for this video! Hope you have a grand day!
i've had an idea in my head for a while, this video helps me outline my ideas into a structured chapter, thank you!
MAKING THE SISTERS TWINS WAS SUCH A GENIUS MOVE
This is so very helpful. I have been wondering what zero draft looks like, and this seems to be the way to go. Just so you have what you want on the page and you can elaborate more as you go. Very very helpful. Thank you so much
Omg I audibly gasped when you said end scene. This story is so good!! Also I’m gonna use this video this week to help me bc I’m currently very stuck on where to start in a new project. Ty Kat💕
- is this a follow up to the *iconic* (and extremely helpful) “how to outline p1&2”??? Yes please. I think Kat made history being the creator of the ‘Kat Outlining’ technique
This is so helpful for my own writing process! I always wondered how you could just jump around but this outlining strategy makes so much sense! Thank you!
Oh my goodness! After searching the internet for soooooo long, I found the true gold.. I have been searching for this since the last 4-5 years. I just realised, I used to show my 'zero drafts' to my friends and they would point out mistakes. This video helped me a lot! Thank you so much 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I absolutely adore your writing videos! They not only motivate me but also teach me important stuff about the writing process! Thank you for sharing your experience with us and please don't stop! :D
Currently doing the same thing but on a notebook 😁 Except that it's not as detailed as yours.
And it really helped! I did some writing sprints after looking at the outline and I got 800+ words out for 45 minutes in total ♥️♥️♥️
This is amazing. Thank you so much for making this. Seeing your process laid out this way makes it clear what you do and so easy to follow. Honestly, I found this whole video enlightening. I would watch you write the whole zero draft like this!
This was fun to watch :) Knowing how other writers plan and draft.
This video is honestly so helpful! I love seeing how your ideas develop from the original outline through this video! It really inspires me to try this method with the story I'm working on! Breaking everything into sections like this and being able to work on different sections out of order feels like way more my style than trying to write everything chronologically!
I love this kind of real bts breakdown. I do something similar when writing my roughs. But this could definitely help me to refine my process. Thanks for the helpful content. 😊
This is really helpful! I recently discovered the term "zero drafting" and I'm trying to do it myself and this helps! Thanks!
wow this is SO helpful!! ive been trying to educate myself more about different writing processes and such to give me ideas on how to put mine into the world and you gave me SO many ideas here!! ive always had trouble specifically with zero drafting. no one ever taught me how to do it, and seeing it happen in pretty much real-time helped so much!! im gonna start implementing these ideas into my own work!
I am so happy that I randomly found you. Your process has helped me break through the trauma of trying to breakdown the writing process in a more manageable
These are my favorite videos on UA-cam, they are so helpful and actually easy to understand and fun to watch. So happy rn💛💛 btw love all of your videos you are such an inspiration
Great video series so far, I've just started to create story today but I'm already starting to get a lot of idea's down onto paper which I would have struggle to have done with out this and the last 2 videos so thank you.
I'm only halfway through and this is already so helpful! I know these videos take a lot of work and it shows, you should be really proud of them! As someone starting to take writing more seriously your videos are my go to for writing advice.
I keep coming back to these 3 videos over and over. They're so helpful. Thank you for making them!!
Really good! Thank you so much :) Also your voice is very soothing so it's a pleasure to watch your videos!
You make writing look so easy! And I mean that as a compliment. Your outlining video really helped me get the ball rolling on stories as well as helping me realize that I don't have to have all the things figured out. And now this is really helping me with an internal struggle I have over writing a "good" first draft and making me actually EXCITED to write!! I love it so much; am definitely going to be re-watching this video **SO MANY** times. ❤️❤️❤️
i know this video is from a few months ago but i love this series so i'm here to send that good good validation
Don't mind me, just watching all these writing videos to procrastinating revising my HORRENDOUS zero draft 😬😂
Kat this is SO helpful!! I've been meaning to start my rough draft for a while and this is exactly what I needed. I love your writing videos!!
I think this is the best writing video I've ever seen. I'm gonna watch it a billion times 😂 Getting so much satisfaction from watching this.
This was so interesting and helpful! Your videos never fail to give me the writing urge 🤘🏼I’ve been struggling with my drafting and seeing you break it down made it a lot less scary and complicated than I’ve been making it out to be.
I love this kind of videos and the story in general. I can’t wait to read the book you’ve already written, cause I know you are an amazing writer.
With this kind of videos I get a lot of inspiration for my own story, and I realize how hard and how much I’ve left to do. Thank u, for everything ❤️
Thank so much for posting this! I've been looking for a new way to outline and rough draft that would fit me better and I think I finally found it!
You did a very good job explaining this drafting part. This is exactly the kind of explanation I was looking for to help me with writing a comic. I watched the first video of this story's outline, and again, it helped alot. Thanks! Gave a thumbs up and gonna sub just incase I need more help.
I come back to this time and time again! So helpful!
Wow, this was a great introduction to how to structure things on Scrivener as well. Thanks for this video!
Your videos are so helpful as i'm trying to write my first novel. Thank you for inspiring me to start, to try, to figure it out. I appreciate you.
Great video for getting the creative juices flowing. Thanks.
I’ve been wanting to write a book for ages but haven’t been able to latch onto an idea or plan it out so that it feels full. This video and your outlining video have been super helpful! I had a full idea in a single night and I’m just starting work on my zero draft. I’m more excited to write than ever!
This may be the most soothing yet inspiringly helpful writing video I've ever watched. I have a lot of trouble with first drafts because I "don't know what to say" and a zero draft like this sounds like an excellent halfway between outline and proper first draft!! 😍
I've been really trying to get myself to start writing. I'm not a professional or anywhere close to that, but I want to for fun and I've been trying to get myself to do it for a long time (longer then I'm willing to admit)
Your videos have been really helpful with getting me started! When I first had the idea for the story I'm working, on I never really thought it would go anywhere. But then I found your How to outline video and now I have a solid plan for actually writing my story! The way you break everything down is easy to understand, and makes seemingly impossible task feel manageable. Thank you for sharing your process so aspiring writers like myself can learn and grow!
I shall watch this again! Love your process. I'm going to try being less linear. Thanks, Katytastic. 😊
This is so so delicious... watching this listening... i have post it notes and scrievener open, need to really flesh out my plot for my story- i have so many stories that i started writing and then petered out because i kept thinking i needed to write it first... it makes more sense being that I’m such a planner in real life that finding a way to plan the story before writing might be so much more helpful! - and just being with you in this process is so helpful in understanding the whole process- thank you so much for this Kat.
This is very helpful! I’m currently stuck in writing first draft and watching other people do it give me inspirations! Thank you so much Kat!!
Thanks a lot for this insight. As a perfectionist (and a crappy one at that) I find myself having problems with even beginnnig to do things. At the same time I really do enjoy having a nice base, a system, a logical template to build on. And here you provide me with multiple videos how to do just that and not get intimidated by the whole thing.
Thanks!
This was so helpful and interesting to watch!
I love this way for a zero draft, it makes complete sense to me.
Here is some validation for you! I am actually about to move onto draft 2 (draft 0 came in many different forms. None of which were particular structured, and draft 1 is fine but a hot mess of bad pacing) so I’m gonna try this when redoing parts of the novel for draft 2 to ease back into writing after a long break. So thanks !
Thank you, Kat. This is very helpful for me to figure out how to do a rough draft and possible editing.
I just thought of a great plot point for an episode in my series and then I saw your notification on Twitter and I was like THIS IS A SIGN! Thank you for this, Kat. Your writing vids are always helpful and motivating and inspirational and stuff!!!
im so excited to read your books, kat!! ❤️
This is great! I love your process and can't wait to take some of this and use it with my own writing! Thank You!!
These brainstorming / drafting videos using Scrivener are giving me so much guidance. I cannot thank you enough. I've finally started the daunting process of transferring all my OneNote brainstorms and separate Word docs into Scrivener, because these videos lit a fire under my ass. I'm unfamiliar with Patreon... let me embarrass myself trying to figure it out with something my broke ass can afford... (*fiddles*)
Right! Officially Patreonic. Thanks again. Please keep doing videos on this project.
So useful!! And actually inspiring me to get back into my current WIP
this is really practical and especially inspirational to me--I wish there were more videos like this
I swear you are the best storyteller ever!
I’m currently in a writing slump. But what gets me out of those sucky times is a well thought out writing video that requires skill and time and energy and focus. Thanks, Kat. I needed it. I’m once again excited about pumping out shitty prose that no one will ever want to read, me included.
Yay! A writing video my favourite! :D
Edit: grammar. I got exited and put “I” instead of “A”
Another fantastic lesson. Thanks a million Katie.
I don’t know what I love more, your explanation of your process, the process itself or your writing! I’ve never thought of doing zero drafts; my perfectionism is really killing my creativity. But it might seriously help me actually make a dent in my WIP. Thank you for making this brilliant video. 😁💕
I've never seen one of your writing videos before, but I'm off to go binge them now! This was absolutely riveting! 👍
Not only did I find this really interesting, I also found this weirdly soothing... so yeah haha
I always wanted to write a story. I was home-schooled (because my parents feared me becoming a communist), and was self taught in all subjects. My favorite subbject was english and reading. Because I had no interaction with outside sources aside from my family on how life actually works, I went into college blindly. At first, I went into humanities and english studies (my life's passion), but my parents (despite their prior fears) wanted me to focus on physics and mathematics. Well, six years later, and changing my (passion) career path I became an engineer.
With that being said, it doesn't change my desire to write a story. But, I've done so as an ineffective pantser.
Your videos have been freaking astounding in helping me. just a few hours of watching, and I feel encouraged to continue after feeling an urge to quit. Rock on. :)
I was homeschooled, too. Not sure if you found it to be a positive or negative experience, (negative, in my case) but I know that either way, it can feel like you're alone in it. Maybe I'm just projecting, and I apologise if you don't need this, but I just wanted to reach out, just in case. Hope your writing went well x
This is so helpful! Thank you for sharing your process.
I really enjoyed both the outlining and zero draft videos it helped a lot get my mind into the right ⚙ (hopefully - we will see)
I have always looked at writing as I have to have all my ducks in a row and ready to give every detail once I put pen to keyboard!
this was so perfectly timed for my own writing process, and so much fun to watch!
This video was so unbelievably helpful, thank you Kat!
I love your podcast voice... but also thanks for showing your writing process
I'm really toying writing a not-so short story, so this video really helps! Thanks!
Loved this insight into your process! I'm a massive writing process nerd (and probably nosy AF) & the way you describe the zero draft is spot on. I usually write a clean first draft, but this technique might change things up in a useful way. Cheers!
This is SO useful. Thank you for this, Kat! I've been struggling to outline my current WIP and have been wanting to just jump to draft 0 but realized I had no clue how to begin, and if my outline is actually draft 0. So this cleared things up so much. Thanks again!! I really enjoy your writing videos, btw. :)
i'm glad this helped! good luck with your writing :)
I find it super helpful to see how others draft. Thank you!
This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen on this. Thank you so much!!
This was fantastic :D your vídeos are always such a motivation to write more, thank you for all the content
Thank you so much for the insight into your writing process. It's really encouraging to see other writers' processes!
Ohhhh, maybe Charlir and her Ex's relationship was already on life support but she wouldn't do anything about it for fear of it falling apart and Penny pointing it out started the fight that broke them up.
I love this
I LOVE your writing videos, they are always so fun, inspiring and helpful! Thank you for doing them
This is SO HELPFUL, I always knew writes started with a rough draft but is so difficult to remember sometimes.
Ohh this was so helpful and inspiring! I'm currently struggling a lot with outlining a story and doing the first draft, and now it seems a little bit clearer how I should go on!
This was so interesting to watch. I always love your writing videos!
Perfect timing, just started a new draft myself. Which was not at all a way to distract myself from the two books that need editing.
I love this so much!!!! I do this, but could definitely take mine up a notch. This is great!
Ooh, I think I'm gonna switch to writing my draft more like this and see if it works cause it has not been going well for the last month.
I'm also already invested in this storyline and gasped when I read the plot twist :P
