I would LOVE to see an in-depth video on your scene planning. I've used your 3 Act Structure for two books now and I really enjoy your planning techniques
Yay a writing video from Kat! And sammmmmmme on coffee shops. I was annoyed how well it worked. And now I almost have to do it to get stuff done haha. Also you should retitle this "Essential Writing Wisdom From Kat" because you are dropping some TRUTHS! (prioritizing writing!)
hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to teach handwriting try Secret Smart Scripter (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.
I would like to see a video on your scene planner and I have to agree on wanting to stay home and write, but I have mainly distractions that include your list and even family stuff, so I need to start going to the library or coffee shop more
This just came at the right time! I just came to Starbucks to start writing ✍️ and I got the notification and putted aside just to watch this video. Now I’m off to write 🤞🏼
I had no idea we were doing revisions at the same time! I hope yours are going well 😃 I'm a huge fan of writing in coffeeshops too. It's harder to do here in Paris because coffeeshops are usually not open after regular work hours, and I have a 9-6 job...but I love doing it whenever possible. Can't wait for more writing videos!! 🙌
Hi! So like a year ago I finished writing a book for the first time (I'm 16, I've written a million short stories and story beginnings but endings are hard lol) and I keep trying to rewrite it but it wasn't working. But then! A few days ago I figured out a sideplot to weave in that would 1.) allow me to cut out the times my characters have the EXACT SAME CONVERSATION THEY ALREADY HAD without hurting my word count too much, 2.) integrate some of my favorite side characters to be a bigger part of the book, and 3.) fill in/ fix the one plot hole my main plot has. I'm so happy! And this made me want to write so I'm going to go do that as soon as I'm done with this comment! I commented something similar on Christine's writing video, I'm just super excited.
I BARELY write anything, I'm one of those "one day I'll publish a book" people that doesn't even write often. I have like maybe 2 poems and 1 short story that are completed. Last night I had this weird inspirational flow state though and did a lot of outlining for a new short story. My problem though is that I am so good with planning motifs and atmosphere and metaphors and whatnot, but it doesn't actually have a plot yet? No idea what I'll do with it. I need to do some brainstorming. Will definitely form a writing playlist and get on it
kat you really came for my wig with the "if you're watching this video and thinking you need more time to write, well, you do" comment. truer words have never been spoken
i just started writing after months of not writing, so this video is perfectly timed for me! i wrote 2000 words yesterday and it felt amazing. i WOULD LOVE to see a video of how you plan your scenes out! every time i "pants" a story it ends up messy and i have so much to go back and fix, so i'm trying to become more of a planner but i have no idea how to do it.
Thank you for this! I needed that kick in the butt to get me into work mode. I hope you'll be able to do more writing videos. Your writing videos always seem to help me... now off to work I go!
Love this video (and your new hair)! I can't wait to see more writing vids and I would definitely appreciate more detail on your scene planning technique!
Heck yeah we would love to see you break down your scene process ! Your video is so motivational and I dig the talk on flow space so much. Thank you for your hard work
I love this video, so helpful! Getting dressed to go to a coffeeshop and write right now! :) I would love an in-depth look at your scene planning, your process is so insightful! I've been using the three act outline you introduced for years now and I LOVE IT! Thank you so so much!
YES PLEASE KAT ALWAYS MORE WRITING VIDEOS ALL THE TIME!!! Of COURSE we would love to see the structure video! These are great tips I love them a lot! Just note that its also important to take breaks on occasion so that you don't become too overwhelmed and burn out really quickly. Like the writing sprints, take 20-30 mins. of writing, then take, like a 5-10 minute break, then go back to writing, then take another short break, etc, cuz I defo lose my flow and get frustrated/tired if I don't take a break here and there. YES WRITING IN DIFFERENT PLACES IS THE BEST! I also find that having some writing buddies motivates me a bit, as well, cuz then they get me out of the house AND give me constructive stuff on my writing and stuff. Its great! Also, the writing triggers sound like something that I'll probably start doing in exposure therapy to help me with my projects. I'm intrigued. GREAT VID AND TIPS!!!
I loooove your hair! It looks gorgeous on you! Thank you also for all the lovely tips... I'm trying to get back into writing a lot now that it's summer, so this is perfect timing for me!
i would like to see that video yes please! BTW i can't wait for more writing videos like this! I hope you have as much fun making them as i do watching :)
This makes my heart so unbelievably happy! Have missed your writing videos loads, Kat. So exciting to see you talking about flow state and productivity techniques too. Its' fascinating isn't it? I went through a period of just binge watching tons of self-development videos and reading books. Not kidding, I went from failing essays to (in three months time) getting a first at university! It really works! The best I've found is the Pomodoro technique (short bursts like you said), also triggers to create habits subconsciously, visualization meditation, using colours, inspiring images on walls and mind maps etc, and taking one thing at a time. Also, breaking tasks down into small manageable components, and creating a 'have done' list. Much nicer to see my accomplishments then what I need to do. I've also tried applying Schwab's calendar method. It's great when it works. (But that's when it works haha!) Also, understanding what food we can eat to increase productivity was a game changer. I swear I ate so many packs of blueberries during my exam season! Haha! Best books I've read are... 'Awaken the Giant Within' by Tony Robbins, '2k to 10k' by Rachel Arron, 'Better Than Before' by Gretchen Rubin, and 'Women Who Run With the Wolves' by Clarrisa Pinkola Estes (This is one is a beast of a book but is life changing. Helps to see the creative process in a new light. As well as life in general. Ha!) Hope this helps. Would love to know, what self-development & writing craft books have helped you the most? :) x
I’ve been wondering if we were going to get more writing videos, so this is awesome! Also, I would love to see a scene planning video. And on a side note, your hair is gorgeous! Hope you’re having a wonderful day!
Great video, it's interesting to hear what other people do to make themselves write more! For example I'm not a planner at all, I find it easier when I only have a specific purpose for the scene/a place it needs to build up to, and then in a way I discover it myself - like improvised writing haha. Also, I love your hair!
I never thought about creating all the sensory triggers to create a sense of "I am supposed to be writing right now." I love this idea and I am going to implement it.
I found booktube because of your writing videos which sparked a book journey that I am eternally grateful for and a push in the right direction when it comes to my writing. Unfortunately I’ve been a giant mess recently, and I really really needed this. Thank you Kat. I’m gonna go write now.
I'm on the same boat with Kat here. The first two weeks (for me was the first one month) of daily writing, except for one off day in a week, had been a dangerous journey in the unpredictable raging storm of storytelling. Then, after you sailed out the radius of unfamiliar participial phrases of thunderstorms, it has been a smooth sail throughout the years. I've been following John Green over the years since 2009 when he was still working on his Faults in our stars, and had been dreaming to write my own novel when I was a law undergraduate at Nottingham Law School. I remember those nights when I could not sleep because of the law principles I had to cram inside my head for the next week's tutorial, I would bring my notebook or laptop downstairs in the kitchen, creeping in silent hunches down the creeking delapidated stairs late in the evening, and began writing horror stories for my now deleted blogpost. For me, writing has always been a self-hypnosis. It cures loneliness and solitude. I tried to do just what you've been doing all these years Kat - making entertaining videos - but I couldn't do it. All those work like looking good for the lens, cleaning up your room before you switch on the camera, thinking about great topics to talk about, and editing your videos which took me two to three hours of editing per video, were exhausting. And for that, I respect youtubers like yourself for having the time to cut timeframe every five second, just so to shorten the video time length for your audiences. I'm not sure if you will ever read this comment or not, but I've been watching your videos since your cheeks were less chubby and your hair used to fall adorably over your shoulders. Just to add one more thing on this relevant topic of writing, although the writing sprint may sound like a great idea, I still believe that setting a goal helps aspiring writer with their writing process. In an interview, Stephen King told George Martin that he wrote 6 pages or more daily. With that clear goal in mind, it triggers that hunger and rush inside us to get to that goal no matter what. In my case, I will try my best to write 6 pages in an A4-sized paper (which my gf thoughtfully bought for me in great bundles) from 6am-10am. If I couldn't write it in the morning, I would write it in the evening. The most important thing is to be present at your desk six times a week (John Grisham and Hemingway). Oh yeah Kat. Your followers here, including myself, will look forward to your publish book in the nearer future. Living as an author in this era has been a struggle, and I know how it feels. I've done with my first book (120,000 word count) and currently working on short stories. But the market in Brunei and in ASEAN has been challenging and unpromising like searching for lochness monster in Glasgow. But I won't bow down. We authors must continue with our quest and keep sailing through the raging waters until we get to our destination. Keep up the great work. We admire your hardwork and dedication especially your endless devotion to your audiences and your strong pursuit to make writing as your full-time job. Best wishes. "Hello...My name is..." said Kat, spreading her palms over the screen with a slight shudder of anxiety in her voice as she greeted her fans from across the globe.
Hooray for more writing videos! I can't wait to see them! I'm in the revision process myself, and your videos have always encouraged me when I'm losing faith in my work :)
Kat this video is fcuking BRILLIANT!! It's like you're inside my head. I've had the hugest problems with just sitting down outside of my house, not in my pajamas, and writing down something. Anything! My "current" writing project has been neglected for about a year because I've always made excuses for myself (school, work, summer, laziness). But this video basically woke me up, so thank you so much!
I'm so glad I watched this video, even though i'm not sure I want to write but I do know I want to get into drawing, and I could use these same tips for that. My lazy butt needs to get on it! And good luck with your writing!
Such a helpful vid! I used to write stories all the time but have really fallen out of it due to time restraints. Sometimes you really do just have to force it to happen.
I would love to see an in-depth video on your scene setting techniques. I love the idea of doing an over-all book outline, but then only planning out one chapter at a time. Thank you for posting and sharing this. It's super helpful!
this video is really helpful! i haven't watched any of your videos in like forever, that hair color/hairstyle suits you so well!!!! also i would love a more in-depth video about the planning, it looks cool and useful! planning it's my weakest point, could use the help x
I would like to see a video on your scene planner too. I have been struggling with scenes and I have realized that I need a very detailed outline for all my scenes as well. I love your videos.
You just uploaded this video at the perfect time! I'm currently struggling with writing, since I really want to write more than I already do, so this video was much needed for me! And please make a video about how you outline. And just more writing videos in general, I love them so much 😁
i've always loved your writing videos and i'm so happy that you're starting to upload them again!!! :)) also i'm super interested in hearing more about how you plot your scenes
I seriously needed this one. My writing has been kind of stagnant lately so this was the perfect pick me up. I already hit the day's quota but it's been like a week since I got anything done so I think I'm going to get a few more things done once I finisht this video hahaha.
Thank you Kat!! I've written only a paragraph of outlining one story and nothing at all on my main story but you inspired me to write a bit before I go to bed in a while!! :) Hope you're doing well!! :)
Every time you talk about writing it makes me want to get back into it so badly. When I was a kid, my floor was covered in notebook paper, not clothes or toys. It's been so long since I've written anything but you inspire me to get back into it! By the way, I love your hair and makeup, you have a lot of natural beauty. ☺️
Love the video, it's very helpful! For me, a fellow Slytherin (and proud of it!), writing triggers are really my manipulative side trying to kickstart my creativity to feed my ambition ;) lighting my candle now...
PLEASE do a video on scene planning, i love your writing vlogs and video and i’m indulging the side of me that adores planning and your videos are really helping me with that 🥺
i like you so much, and i can relate to you in so many levels especially when you talk about this weird feeling that we have when we start writing. its something i really want, and i tend to be very dedicate in all that i do, but this feeling keep me scared and stoped me from even trying to start. i know what i have to do, i readed and watched a lot of videos about it, and yes, maybe i'm sabotaging myself, but its such a relief to heard your experience, realize that its a thing that happen with anyone, but you're dealing with that anyway and telling us how much it is hard and frustrating sometimes, but that we can win this.
"Productivity breeds more productivity." So true!
I would LOVE to see an in-depth video on your scene planning. I've used your 3 Act Structure for two books now and I really enjoy your planning techniques
Graci Schomaker yesssss!!!!
Yes please!!
yes you have my signature
This hits different in quarantine
Also thank you bless you wow we don’t deserve this
15:28 I wasnt expecting that omg that spoke to my soul
Why are you still here? Go be productive.
Damn yeah lol
Yay a writing video from Kat! And sammmmmmme on coffee shops. I was annoyed how well it worked. And now I almost have to do it to get stuff done haha.
Also you should retitle this "Essential Writing Wisdom From Kat" because you are dropping some TRUTHS! (prioritizing writing!)
OMG I LOVED YOUR BOOK IT WAS AMAZING!! LOVED the adaptation to make the book more modern-age but still sticking to Jane Eyre's original story.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D
Kiki-san What do you mean by "no"?
hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to teach handwriting try Secret Smart Scripter (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.

This just came at the right time! I just came to Starbucks to start writing ✍️ and I got the notification and putted aside just to watch this video. Now I’m off to write 🤞🏼
woo! good luck with the writing, hope you have a productive day!
Also, "the world will end if you don't write" is such a takeaway for me. That's inspriational and funny and I will be using that.
Besides coffee shops, also libraries and co-working spaces work great.

that's cool! do you still write, 6 years later?

YES! YES! YES! Kat making videos about writing yasssssssss!! And I really am interested in that outlining video...
I’m digging the new background!!!
kat you really came for my wig with the "if you're watching this video and thinking you need more time to write, well, you do" comment. truer words have never been spoken
The triggers are a really good idea. I've never thought of that. Thank you.
"More writing videos are coming, just fy."Hooray. Kat, may sparkly butterflies sing lullabies in your ear and flowers grow in your wake. Hugs, Kat.
Definitely a video on plotting scenes. Your 3 Act, 9 Block, 27 Chapter video has been super helpful for me.
Please, I need more writing videos. This is the second time I am watching this. I love you, Kat.
I find this hair colour suiting you the most of all! Gorgeous!
So excited for some more writing videos! I always go back and watch your old ones when I need some motivation, and I'm so keen to have more!
Can we take a moment and talk about how amazing the thumbnail is
Yes!! I am SO down for more writing videos from you!
Yaaaaaaassss writing videos! That's how I first found you; I was looking up nanowrimo writing videos. I can't wait for more! 😍
i just started writing after months of not writing, so this video is perfectly timed for me! i wrote 2000 words yesterday and it felt amazing. i WOULD LOVE to see a video of how you plan your scenes out! every time i "pants" a story it ends up messy and i have so much to go back and fix, so i'm trying to become more of a planner but i have no idea how to do it.
Yay, writing videos are back! I would love to hear more about your scene planning!
Hi Kat my name is Michael we write together some times
we need to write together MOREEEEEE
Thank you for this! I needed that kick in the butt to get me into work mode. I hope you'll be able to do more writing videos. Your writing videos always seem to help me... now off to work I go!
Love this video (and your new hair)! I can't wait to see more writing vids and I would definitely appreciate more detail on your scene planning technique!
I wish there was an in-depth video on the scene planning strategy! This whole video is amazing!
i'm glad you're back doing writing videos and I would love to see an in depth video of how you write your scenes.
Please do a video over outlining!!! I just write whatever comes to mind and i can NOT outline.
i've done several outlining vids already! two are linked in the description :)
Yay!!! Always love it when Katy does a writing video!!
Very useful for all types of writing, thank you!
I'm going to use these tips for my thesis writing...
i would like to see that video yes please! BTW i can't wait for more writing videos like this! I hope you have as much fun making them as i do watching :)
I always love your writing videos! I would love to see that scene outline one.
I’m so excited to see more writing videos from you . I love the ones you had done previously.
Great video! I would LOVEEE to see a video breaking down how you outline your scenes!
YES KAT
these writing videos are my favourite!!!
I’ve been wondering if we were going to get more writing videos, so this is awesome! Also, I would love to see a scene planning video. And on a side note, your hair is gorgeous! Hope you’re having a wonderful day!
Yay more writing videos! I'm drafting right now, and using an outline structure from one of your old-school videos, so can't wait for more!
YESSSS! I need to finish this round of revisions and want to write one more book in summer. This was so helpful!
I found booktube because of your writing videos which sparked a book journey that I am eternally grateful for and a push in the right direction when it comes to my writing. Unfortunately I’ve been a giant mess recently, and I really really needed this. Thank you Kat. I’m gonna go write now.
Writing depends like what you wish to pen down on. It may be about food, fashion, film, diaspora, women's, graphic novels, blogging etc.
I'm in the revision process myself, and your videos have always encouraged me when I'm losing faith in my work :)
yes detail the outline! I'm so motivated to write now! LETS GO
YES! New writing videos! Going to try writing at a local coffee shop today. Wish me luck! A video of your scene planner would be awesome!
Kat, I love ALL your content but your writing videos are my favorite!! They're so inspiring.
And yes, detailed video of your scene outline please!
Thanks for all the advice Kat!
Oh thank god, I really needed this. Kat uploads videos at the best time for me.
I’ve been putting off writing for a bit so thanks for the much much needed motivation kat!!!
Anatomy of a story is a lifesaver!! I really need to find my own writing triggers haha these were great tips, thank you !
I would love to watch more writing related videos from you. Your old writing advice videos are my go to when I’m in need of inspiration.❤️📝
So happy to see this writing videos. Thanks. Hi from Mexico!
The scene planning video sounds great!
As someone in the middle of writing my first novel while juggling a bunch of other stuff, this video is so helpful. I would love more like this!!
I was just thinking of you posting more writing vids!! Thanks for this, Kat!
Writing videos are my faves, you rock!!
I would like to see a video on your scene planner too. I have been struggling with scenes and I have realized that I need a very detailed outline for all my scenes as well.
I love your videos.
Genuinely needed this right now. Ive been putting off writing for weeks now and I hate myself but I also can't get myself to start.
I loved the video. It was very helpful. I would love to see an in-depth video explaining your planning!
Yay!!! Please make the video on your scene planner!!!!!
Your hair is adorable! I’ve missed your writing videos!
You just uploaded this video at the perfect time! I'm currently struggling with writing, since I really want to write more than I already do, so this video was much needed for me! And please make a video about how you outline. And just more writing videos in general, I love them so much 😁
Great video Kat! Please do a breakdown video of your scene planning process :).
This was super motivational and helpful.
Thank you.
Woahhh so relatable and excited for more writing videos!
i've always loved your writing videos and i'm so happy that you're starting to upload them again!!! :)) also i'm super interested in hearing more about how you plot your scenes
Yes! I would love to see a video on how you outline your scenes! All of the writing videos! 😁😁
I seriously needed this one. My writing has been kind of stagnant lately so this was the perfect pick me up. I already hit the day's quota but it's been like a week since I got anything done so I think I'm going to get a few more things done once I finisht this video hahaha.
YES PLEASE to a video on your scene planning strategies!
I'm thrilled to hear there will be more writing videos! Now I must flee UA-cam and be productive! :)
Would love to see in depth video about scene outline! Your writing videos have helped me a lot.
PLEASE do a video on scene planning, i love your writing vlogs and video and i’m indulging the side of me that adores planning and your videos are really helping me with that 🥺
Kat can you make writing vlogs? I'd love to watch those.
I miss your old school writing videos so I'm happy to watch this one~
Yes yes yes please do an in depth video about your outline 😊 Loves this video
The timing of this video is amazing, I’ve been in the worst writing slump ever! Thank you!!
This video was so helpful and interesting! Thank you for this! I hope you'll do more like this in the future! 😍😄💓💕
Loved this video :) I'm totally in for a scene planning dedicated video!
i like you so much, and i can relate to you in so many levels especially when you talk about this weird feeling that we have when we start writing. its something i really want, and i tend to be very dedicate in all that i do, but this feeling keep me scared and stoped me from even trying to start. i know what i have to do, i readed and watched a lot of videos about it, and yes, maybe i'm sabotaging myself, but its such a relief to heard your experience, realize that its a thing that happen with anyone, but you're dealing with that anyway and telling us how much it is hard and frustrating sometimes, but that we can win this.
I just outlined a book for the first time yesterday and it's already improved my writing.
God bless! My life is now made! CAN'T WAIT for the writing videos!!!! 😍❤️😍
Yuh! Please make a video explaining the scene outline. I would love to see the breakdown on that.
