    What I really like about Tyla is that she's actually a pop star. She's bringing the full package, style, dance, writing, vocals, and most importantly, she's captivating, and she's HUNGRY.

    She's actually the first ever artist I've stanned. Not just because she's from my country though. I had listened to her album when it came out, trying to be a fellow supporter but I was stunned really & actually couldn't believe it. It's been on repeat every single day & the deluxe just closed off the era so well. A lot of South Africans support her out of Patriotism & because she's the first ever artist to breakout of SA. We have such talent in our country but for some reason a lot prefer to 'stay' within SA or Africa really but still perform overseas, so seeing Tyla actually fight to go international, to have people listen to the sounds and dances we go crazy over is amazing. We've never been prouder.
    Another reason I'm just so in love with her is that she is genuinely in love with this, likes creating music & even being a celebrity. Seeing her performance when she opened a tour last year May and comparing it to now, the improvement is astounding really. She's taking lessons and improving every day, bettering herself even with an injury. I think her team is really the best thing ever out there and has done what a lot have failed to do. She's creating an image for herself and filling in a gap that has been open for very long time. It's always Pop, Hip-hop, Afrobeats, R&B and other genres but Tyla somehow mixes all of these pulling different elements from each piece which is why it's so hard to define or at least categorize her. I know a lot of people think she'll disappear soon, but I really think she's here to stay. Judging from her album alone, she's not going away anytime soon. I think once she does pop, she'll be unstoppable.

      That’s so cool that she’s the first in some time to choose to break out of just being big in South Africa! Like honestly, she’s one of the few recent breakouts who seems to actually love the process which in itself is a rarity!

    God I ADORED Tyla's debut. Me and my mom listened to it the night it came out (we live in the Midwest, so 12 AM on the East Coast is 11 PM here). My favorite song is by far Priorities, but I also loved ART (so underrated and better than Jump imo), On My Body, On & On, Butterflies, Breathe Me, Truth Or Dare, No.1, and Safer. I really hope more people listen to it and love it like I did (it's my second/third favorite AOTY, behind HMHAS and #1 Orquídeas). She definitely is! People are trying to brush her off bc she’s not on Rihanna level fame, however they’re forgetting the biggest stars had the quiet before the storm stage of their career. Rihanna, Justin, Billie, Drake. All that matters is potential and I see it. Her performances are the best, her music is great and she has great style.
    However, with mediocrity being as popular as ever who’s going to a superstar next is very unpredictable. Sabrina’s rise shocked me, especially with bits like Espresso and Please Please? Like really? 😭

      Rih’s first record was not the smash her follow up was! Like she def had success but learned from it and adapted, I think Tyla needs a little more oxygen but she’s very well on her way.

      @@EljohnMacaranas The thing with Sabrina I loved her previous album Emails I Can’t Send IMO should’ve been the breakthrough record it was so good. The lyrics, the cohesion, the artistry.
      Now…Espresso?? That sounds a lot like Say So but not executed nearly as well. She wears her influence on her sleeve, which is essentially what every artist does however with Sabrina she intimidates the artist so much that you can hear the inspirations in every song.

      @@EljohnMacaranas Rihanna started down and went up, which is different from Tyla she started up with Water, lead single of her debut being big as it is...and have struggled to have a moment half as big as water with an album out.. and the promotion she has got from Grammys, VMAs, festival perfomances, Olympics, fashion week.. included the coveted Victoria Secret, MET gala, magazine covers and features which are things that Rihanna wasnt given until like her third album, and so a lot of other artists. Plus sometimes your team pushing you everywhere and getting into places is not always a good thing because it pushes consumers to think you are being favoured and can repel them...the same thing happened with Megan thee Stallion she was supposed to be the next big thing but consumers started to feel like she was being pushed as an agenda and just being handed things she hadnt earned and while her career is good,, she never became great. So while Tyla is talented, her album should have been a little bit bigger, Ithink her label is to blame for the marketing, she is always somewhere doing something but one hit on an album is not exactly saying the next big thing with streaming nowadays and artists pushing 3 or 4 back to back hits in one album.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  4 дні тому +5

      I feel like there's so much politics behind the decision because the RnB voting caucus themselves decided that likely to prevent her from sweeping that whole category (because truth be told she would), likewise her management kept saying she was a pop star. I personally think it makes it tougher for her to win this coming year BUT it also does show that she''s definitely carved herself a name in pop.

      @@EljohnMacaranas i think her team submitted to R&B thinking that she had a better chance of being nominated. Definitely not a sweep win, R&B is about rhythm and blues and Tyla just does not have that soul. People saying she would sweep in a category competing with the likes of Coco Jones, Usher, Victoria Monet, and even Chris Brown???? Let’s be serious. Now maybe the more international awards like the global music album or the African music performance. Her team tried to give her a chance to at least be nominated for the album by submitting to R&B, knowing damn well they market her as pop and produce pop. The Grammys basically said….yea cut the bs. The chances of her being nominated are super low but at least she wasn’t put into a box like other women of color artists who get put in the R&B box, but her discography needs to get stronger. The album was nicely produced, the lyrics were sub par, and Tylas vocals aren’t strong but like you said nicely polished nicely organized. Missing something. That core something. The only time people really hear about her is during award shows or her name in discourse, never about the music. Her one hit is Water. Something broke inside me when you mentioned people comparing her to Rihanna…Don’t get me wrong, it just sounds so ignorant and it’s like this reasoning only refers to their skin colour and interest in fashion…? Girl, Barbados is not even in Africa, so their background is completely different

      I think people so badly want another Rihanna but it does no justice to both Rih and Tyla who clearly wants to be her own artist and has a different sound entirely
