Tom if you’re reading these comments I’m begging you for that director’s cut. Always been a fan of FGF but I want to see what you had intended. Totally paved the way for shows like Tim and Eric imo.
This guy doesnt get enough credit, basically everything MTV did from 2000 to 2012 was invented by Tom Green. Jackass, viva la bam, fantasy factory all exist because of Tom Green and then after that he pioneered podcasting.
The jackass guys got their start doing wild stunts for skateboard videos. I would say it’s more a Tom green treaded the mtv waters so jackass could swim. Now Eric Andre…
As a 40+ year old Canadian it's hard to express to non-Canadians just how riotously insane, hilarious and original his Rogers Cable Show and then Comedy Channel (Canadian network) long before he got to MTV. It was completely the most unique comedy program around by far.
Absolutely. Glen Humplick went through hell. I’ll never forget the episode where he hid a cell phone inside a dead raccoon and brought it in the studio and called the phone
His show on Rogers Ottawa was so unique and pioneering. No one had ever seen anything like it. 25 years later you can see his legacy having blazed a trail for so many new formats and styles. He is credited as the precursor inspiring Joe Rogan. Also heavily influenced the street prank and shock comedy...Erik Andre, Jack Ass etc.
I remember the bootleg VHS tapes being distributed around Toronto in those days, people recorded the show in Ottawa and made copies and sent them to Toronto and Montreal
I adore this man. I was the perfect age in the 90s as a teenager to watch the show and think it was the funniest thing on earth. Tom is still creating and still making me laugh. I love you, Tom.
I was a teen in the 2000s but I also feel like I was the perfect age for the show. Along with Jackass, Viva La Bam, and Rob & Big, of course. Personally I think the late 90s-early 2000s was the best era for MTV. Most people will say it was in the 80s when they actually played music, but by the time I was at my prime age for watching MTV, I couldn't care less whether or not they played music because I was already getting all my music off of Napster, and all my music videos off of Yahoo! Launch. And then UA-cam came out a couple years later and took over the music video scene.
I desperately need to see that director cut. I literally was just chatting to my friends today about the baby scene and how it was one of the best scenes from a comedy movie ever made
Screw Director's Cuts! Who gives a crap about Directors? We Need SCREENWRITER'S and EDITOR'S Cuts of films! NOT Directors! Directors are grossly over rated!
We’ll Tom did all of those things. And directors are in no way overrated. Screenwriters most of the time sell the script which is written again by at the very least one person. And editing is typically a team effort which involves the director a majority of the time. The editors cut is literally the Final Cut you already watch. People say directors cut because it’s the initial vision of the director with all of the scenes the director filmed still in tact.
The Tom Green Show was one of my favorite shows back in the day! The Monica Lewinsky episode was so awesome! He treated her like a human being which was super rare back then. Nobody was doing that! Tom Green is a real one!
I saw Freddy Got Fingered in the theater on 4/20. I personally loved the movie, and scenes have stuck in my memory for decades. I still say the word jewels like he says it in the movie when he's giving them to Betty.
Tom, if you are reading this, please know you have forever changed my life. Your undercutters Pizza business inspired me to create a series of undercutting businesses. Like our very popular undercutters ambulance service. Or our mobile Undercutters Asian massage service. I am sad to say that our undercutters burial service was shut down by court order. We would arrive at the funeral home, day of the service and offer 1/2 off the procession, plot and burial service. Thanks for the inspiration.
I mean, by then Eric Andre was doing something that had been done many times. Tom originated it all. There would be no Jackass without Tom Green. None of the random humor that defined Adult Swim. And the majority of “internet humor” started with The Tom Green Show.
I introduced my 14 year old son to Freddy Got Fingered, it’s now one of his favourite movies and is quoted so often round our house. It was misunderstood by most of the critics at the time, but it just shows you how great comedy transcends generations. “Daddy would you like some sausages?”
I was a kid when I first watched it and it was an insight into how absurd adulthood could be. Not the story, the fact that such a comedy could be made. It really felt like it hated the audience. I'm 42 now and see how much Tom has mellowed (he has a great YT channel without any of his "antics"). I also understand exactly what that movie at the time was trying to say and it said it very well.
RedLetterMedias review of FGF is an absolute delight. They're kinda convinced it's a piece of meta genius, years before meta was even recognised as a thing.
Tom is a creative legend, deserves way more recognition for paving the way, he was beyond his time, it’s crazy to look back and see just how much of a real pioneer his been.
Tom, you saved my life. "Hey kids feel your balls" really did save my life. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer 10 years ago, and after surgeries and chemo I'm cancer free and happily raising my two kids. I really do know that you saved my life and helped me to take it all with some humor.
FGF is my favorite comedy of all time, the fancy restaurant scene is amazing as are about 10 other scenes. Rip Torn was perfect to play Tom's dad and obviously Tom is a legend. A comedy movie with a title based on a false rape accusation...absolutely brilliant.

Tom is a King, he pushed comedy into total absurdity in such a charming way. When I first saw him at 12 years old I was absolutely rattled. I almost couldnt comprehend how funny he was. He made me belly laugh for entire evenings into the early morning as a young kid over and over, I was a kid who had no worries other than landing a skateboard trick or his first kiss. I am 38 this year, I still adore Tom and watch him rather frequently. His ability to transcend norms in such a agile and silly way keeps me young at heart. The fact that he isnt celebrated more bothers me. The man deserves a statue at the very least. Of the hundreds of hours he has made me laugh I have bought a hoodie and seen his stand up live twice. He deserves far more in my view. He invented basically everything you see on the internet, but remains the humble Canadian you see here. One of the very last of a long dead few.
I used to record his original show on Roger’s cable and bring it to school and we would watch it during art class. His old side kick Glen Humplick went through absolute hell
Thanks Tom. My friends and I had an unforgettable 4/20 during High School seeing Freddy Got Fingered in the theater. I remember they gave that double sided movie poster out, I hung it up reversed, across from my dresser mirror.
We've heard Tom talk about this career arc, but this was good to see him somewhat proud now of Freddy Got Fingered. We really do need a Blu Ray release of the movie, if not the director's cut.
