Freddy Got Fingered is a masterpiece of anti-humour, and way ahead of its time. If it had come out a few years later, it'd be up there with Tim & Eric in the critical consensus.

Theres WAYY more worse movies than freddygotfingered. FGF isnt even half as bad as alot of the really bad ones out there. FGF is enjoyable and Rip Torn brings a lot to the film. People have 0 taste if they don't at least get a kick out of FGF. Honestly it was entertaining and the casting was projected well, from the mother to rip torn and Eddie kaye thomas' character. It was a Good movie, there were/are way worse films, especially comedies. Or a movie like foking "gigli" what kind of chick flick rom/com trash was that. Fuking far worse than FGF

I agree with that. However all of this is completely lost on Joe Rogan and you can see he just thinks its funny, completely missing the meta point of it all.

Freddy got fingered is the first movie I have seen that has done slap-stick satire. The running gag with the kid who gets injured is genius(besides from the glass in the face at the restaurant), first showing the classic silly "woops!" cartoon accidents and immediately cutting to the brutal realistic image of the kid bleeding and loosing his teeth etc., making you feel like a piece of shit for laughing before that brutality is displayed, which makes even more funny, haha. Seeing kids get hurt is the worst feeling I know of, but Tom Green actually managed to make that satire work. I love him!

freddy got fingered is one of those movies that is so stupid its funny. some people just don't get that some movies were never meant to be epic or have oscar recognition, some are just meant to be so ridiculously funny. i still laugh at some of those scenes in that movie.

Freddy got fingered is one of the most quotable movies of all time. I love it it's fantastic. My favorite scene actually is when he flips out at work and piles more cheese on the cheese sandwich I wanted to do that at work so bad so many times. I have yelled, "I could loose all this!!!" And no one gets the reference.

"But the thing is, I remember "Freddy Got Fingered" more than a year later. I refer to it sometimes. It is a milestone. And for all its sins, it was at least an ambitious movie, a go-for-broke attempt to accomplish something. It failed, but it has not left me convinced that Tom Green doesn't have good work in him. Anyone with his nerve and total lack of taste is sooner or later going to make a movie worth seeing."

  • @rainman11985

The stuff Green intended to the showstopper moments was genuinely unfunny nonsense, like the deer guts and horse wanking scenes. There's was so many other moments that made me laugh so much it hurt like the baby scene or the restaurant scene or just moments of Rip Torn being angry were what was hilarious about it.

  • @Smettli
    @Smettli 4 роки тому

Freddy got fingered is the first movie I have seen that has done slap-stick satire. The running gag with the kid who gets injured is
genius, first showing the classic silly "woops!" cartoon accidents and immediately cutting to the brutal realistic image of the kid bleeding and loosing his teeth etc., making you feel like a piece of shit for laughing before that brutality is displayed, which makes it even more disturbingly funny, haha. Seeing kids get hurt is the worst feeling I know of, but Tom Green actually
managed to make that satire work. I didn't understand the satire and the meta-concept of the movie the first time I watched it as a teenager (on cam-vcd-rip, lol), and actually felt sick to my stomach after watching it, but now, at the age of 36, it's the funniest film I know of.

Personally I've become really desensitized to the humor that the pop culture brings out. Shock humor is the inevitable result to people like me. All I really find myself laughing at anymore is angry or drunken stand up, and Jackass. Maybe some porn bloopers on the side.

I watch few movies more than once, the funny thing is this is one of the exceptions the type of comedy was ahead of its time I think.

"GOOOOOOOOORD!!" DAD turns hot water off, "this'll fix him, HOW'S THE WATER!!! COLD ENOUGH FOR YA!!??"......no response, so dad kicks in bathroom door. Walks in, flushes toilet, "damnit, don't tell me, your so God damn stupid, you can't even tell the difference between hot, and cold!!!" Lol, love that part.

Lots of people were on the internet in 2001

Generally when people say "pre internet", like Tom Green did, they're referring to before the boom that lead a lot of people online, before "Web 2.0", which was around 2005.

And if you look at the reviews on IMDB from 2001, it's almost universal pans.
I think that the negative legacy worked to the film's advantage and subsequent audience watched it with a more distanced perspective. It's really interesting to see how the IMDB ratings steadily (albeit only slightly) rose over time.

Yes, we were using the internet now and again, but old media and its strictures still held sway over people's mindsets. It was a more heavily monitored entertainment world.

theres a study and it was like less than 10 percent of the population that is on now. it was super small (still good sized) compared to what it is now.

It's absurdist comedy. If you don't have an absurdist/surrealist sense of humor, if you don't laugh at absurd themes and absurd situations in film, then you won't get it and chances are it's because your sense of humor is a lot more rudimentary so try something like screwball or slapstick comedy instead. Slapstick never fails.

As funny as Tom is, Rip Torn playing his dad, made that movie as funny as it is. As crazy as Tom acted, Rip Torn stole every scene, in my opinion. R.I.P Rip Torn.

That movie has a zero on Rotten Tomatoes, and I LOVED it. It had its moments where I thought it was a bit much, but there were a lot of great bits. Daddy would you like some sausage? I passed the fuck out. "At least I don't touch Freddy" Fuck yea.
