I'm one of the singers at church. We do very upbeat and charismatic songs. I don't have to hold the mic unless I'm doing a special. Its VERY heavy. "Its the best" they said. I have to use both hands! ( I actually use Martina as one of the singers to warm up so it was a perfect video u did ) Martina "always" makes sure she takes a big breath behind every note.
Hi Sophie! Your videos have been so helpful to me. You seem to be a great teacher. Off the subject of singing......... just curious - do you do your own makeup for these videos or do you have it professionally done? I would love to know the color/brand of your eyeshadow, lipgloss and lashes. Would you do an instructional video on makeup/hair/dress for performances (specifically for small venue)? Thanks so much!
Great tutorial as always Sophie, but if I can just comment. If you're a gigging singer, intending to sing that particular song the way Martina McBride sings it, the way you're singing it at the end is just a bit too safe. There's no question you sang it very well, but from a performance aspect, you really have to give that song much more to do it justice. I always try to sing more economically whenever I can, but some songs just don't provide that luxury. Thanks for letting me comment.
If you're a gigging singer, you're going to end up with vocal cord damage if you try to blast out all your high notes in chest voice. It's not healthy. You can belt in mix or head voice, too, and it's much healthier for your vocal cords.
So here's a guy telling us to pull the microphone away - ua-cam.com/video/Cv7Y2BY1TfU/v-deo.html. I'm backing Sophie. What she says seems to make more sense.
Hi can you do a video analysising Leona Lewis's singing technique. Some people say she uses a yodelling technique could you help us clarify this in a video?
(Not about the video) If my voice doesn't hurt for the first time I do a whistle note, did I do something wrong? I always do whistle notes and it doesn't hurt my voice ._.
GET YOUR HAND OFF THAT GRILL.. That is NOT how you hold a microphone. How about you learn how to hold a mic before you try teaching how to use one.. For others reading this, "Cupping a mic" affects the frequency response of the mic. It makes it more likely to feedback and makes it a nightmare for the Audio Engineer. It also makes vocals muddy and missing clarity.. This is something that any professional performer should know. ua-cam.com/video/GXjzPk6GDmg/v-deo.html
Rip headphone users at 1:11. Guess only me. Lol. But you sing great. :)
Shen Xinyi thanks for the warning lol
Good technique I forget to do this so instead of blasting the speaker. I blast my fellows ears out. Ty :=)

I'm an Alto voice, how can I improve my voice to make it higher?
You can't get much higher than an alto without having your bits removed.
@@bobshifimods7302 True that :"v

I saw a singer that moving the mic back and forth while singing a high note, what's that technique?
Me holding the silver part of microphone coz' my voice is so low and no life
dude set that gain knob,......and with a broken speakerrrrrr.
Deadass though, there are so many things off with this video. Like, as far as anyone is aware, she totally just used her on board microphone
Great video but RIP there should be a warning for that distortion. Literally loud enough to hurt my ears...just edit it x.x
Hi Sophie thanks for the videos, what do I do I have lost my head voice and not allowing me to reach them? Please help me thanks

The1stOtaku Singing ANYTHING that makes your throat hurt is wrong! Singing should not hurt. If it does something is wrong!
Thanks for this video Sophie. What else should I do when I hold the mic?
Martina should've sang it the way you demonstrated it, before you used the words😅
Please view my video 'Vocal tips for a strained voice' here:

Is it just me or does it lose a lot of emotion when she does this?
Too much gain in your preamp but the advices are great. Thanks!
Yeah unfortunately I'm finding the sound a bit distorted.
👏 👏 👏😍😍😍👍👍🤲🙏
well these days singer need to swallow the microphone so they can be hear, they don't need this technique.
what was that at 1:11 and headphone users would get a shock at 1:56
